Hello dear A4 friends,

I am trying to upgrade my MMI to a more recent version. Purchased my A4 December 2014, the Audi dealership was very vague about much information.

Audi A4 S-Line 2.0 TDI
Supplements:
- Bang & Olufsen
- Xenon headlights
- Sunroof

Attached are different photos of the interior of my A4, with reference numbers, please assist me in knowing which current MMI version I have, to see what I can upgrade to.

Thank you guys

As above, you just have a concert head unit.

No MMI ??
But I have Media button, and even MMI in settings...
How could there not be MMI ?
Is there anyway I can install it in the system?

It’s not MMI. You have a concert head unit.

MMI install is expensive and time consuming as it requires a total rewire of the infotainment system and not worth it.

Not worth it? I'm very happy with what I currently have, but if there are any additions to it, I wouldn't mind installing it. Such as the 3G MMI, giving wireless access and a GPS map. Is it possible to install all this based on the basic Concert head unit? (My Audi dealership was being so grimmy, and I even felt jealousy from her when she was picking out the options to add in the S-Line)
For the moment, I have a 15GB MiniSd card.
I didn't wanna buy a 128GB one, in fear that the system wouldn't be able to support it. Is there a chance that it wouldn't work if I do buy one?

To install MMI 3G or 3G+ it’s a lot of effort and expense, ie £1000-2000 depending on price of parts not including fitting!

There is nothing you can add to your current setup.

Thank you for your response Darren.
Would you happen to have any websites describing and showing images of the ultimate MMI, so I can see if it's worth the hassle + price?

Thank you for your suggestion Ian.
As I can see, Alpine always comes thru with gangster options on their "tools", as well as a hefty price tag!!

I cannot blame headquarter Audi for this MMI mishap that I've been given, but my Audi dealership really deserves the finger pointed at and reported to Germany's head office!!
Even though this is the second A4 I purchase, this is the latest one, MMI didn't exist in the previous version, hence the next Audi I acquire will most definitely be customized to my taste.

Just imagine guys, the little lightbulb inside the glove compartment isn't even available. When I asked about it, her reply was "ohhh... you wanted it there (acting all innocent)?? All I had to do was check the box in the order for it."

Second mishap, I requested Bluetooth so that I can tether music from my phone to the B&O. Telephone works flawlessly thru bluetooth. But once I connect to the Audi bluetooth to stream audio, it doesn't go thru!! (Coming back to the damn lady, she replies "Bluetooth works FINE", she calls my phone and it rings on the so called MMI I don't have!

Well I thank you guys very much for your assistance in my matters.
Take good care, I'll definitely be back!

No reply based on the 128GB MiniSD...
Will it be read by my Concert system?
I worry that it's purchased but isn't recognized by the system

I believe that 32GB is the largest size supported in the Concert unit.

The Alpine unit that is linked to above would work out a lot less expensive than an MMI Retrofit. I looked into the same when I owned an A4 and it was going to cost thousands for the parts (used, from eBay) plus about £800 and a week for the install (by a guy who has done this quite a few times).

I watched the video for the Alpine install and it doesn't look too daunting. If I hadn't been ready to change my car I would probably have got one myself.

I fitted the Alpine unit myself, dead easy.

Thank you for your reply Steve & Ian, I knew that there was a limit for the Mini SD GB storage (thankfully I hadn't purchased the 128GB). But as you said the Alpine unit has it's own advantages over the MMI.
I will definitely look into it.
Cheers guys

Did you ever fit the Alpine unit? i'm considering it (the updated version with Android Auto) and interested to know your experience and if you went for it given the cost.

Further, did it work with any factory parking sensor front and/or rear?

Finally, i have a 64GB SD card working perfectly well in my A4 with the Concert head unit. The key is to format the SD card as FAT32. Windows won't format a card of higher capacity than 32GB (i believe) however this tool worked for me in this case as well as previously when i wanted to format a large capacity card for a Samsung Android phone. Search for "fat32 format" and it's a small exe file (i can't seem to post the link here).
