Facelift Ordered My RS3 Saloon in Riviera Blue

As has been mentioned, perhaps they got away with one on the PFL. It is so loud, videos really don't get anywhere near demonstrating how so. FL will technically be a better car however, so fear not.

I went to see a new RS3 saloon yesterday with performance exchaust. Dealer was revving it up and it was certainly popping and banging when he was giving it some.
Obviously not a drive on the road (car wasnt registeted yet), but I was pleased to hear it still made the noise after reading lots of comments saying it didnt

They do pop at idle, it's when driving that they reportedly don't.

If thats the case then I wonder if its a mapping thing rather than an exchaust issue. Maybe sports exchaust and a remap is the way to go for bangs and extra power

Yes it's the mapping that's stopped it, that's where the pops come from anyway.

The overall tone and noise level is down to the exhaust.

A remap will no doubt fix it, but the cars are too expensive to fix when they go critically wrong.. for me anyway, so I can't risk voiding the warranty.

To be absolutely clear, they do pop and crackle at idle. But not on the move. Also, when I demonstrated to the salesman mine at idle he was shocked at how much louder.

@Craig Cull - PFL S3 saloon in riviera blue to give you some idea

I know my s3 only does it in dynamic. Did you try the different drive select options to see if it made any difference?

Having read about the handling issues of the PFL, I would definitely rather have the FL even if it's won't pop as much.

I've never driven a PFL but the new cars have so much grip it's unreal. Definitely no understeer with the fatter shoes up front.

The old one didn't understeer either :tearsofjoy:

Hmmm......All North American owner reviews of the 400bhp saloon state a large difference in zoom zoom sound from stock to sports exhaust system.
Are the European models subject to revised European noise level restrictions?

Ive been talking with my tuner and we can just run a 2016 file on a post 2017 car, so we can have the over run bangs and crackles, and still tune it without having to have pre 2017 car. So all good, aslong as your willing to stick a map on it

Big risk to take for the sake of some crackles!

Handling issues? This is the sort of ****** perpetually spouted by reviewers who believe road cars need to be Formula 1 cars.

I've heard about this understeer thing. I don't go on the track and never will. I find my car, a PFL, is unshakeable.
I find the way you can late brake into a corner and accelerate early quite exhilarating.

Anyway, except for nutters I thought understeer was the most desirable handling vice on a public road?

I mean, jeezuz, you would have to be going far too fast into a left-hand corner to have any chance of the car understeering into the opposing lane.

If one does want a track car, you don't get an RS3 anyway.
If one HAS to get an RS3 there are simple, low cost mods I believe, that can transform the handling.

Oh no!!!
I hope that doesn't work...
It is the only thing us PFLers have over the FLers...

We will just come across as jealous if that works :)

Agreed.
Plus it was generally reckoned the understeer(and there is a bit but not noticeable unless racing down some trunk road left hander) was caused by the weighty engine.
I never found it a problem so much so that currently contemplating getting back in one.
The S3 FL isn't doing it for me.

What don't you like about the S3? Mine is great and I'm not looking forward to letting it go.

S3 is a lager shandy, RS3 is real ale ;)

The S3 is a great car and genuinely rapid too when it wants. But to go from RS3 to S3 rather than the other way around is bound to disappoint a bit.
I'd say the S3 is Lager Tops though-not shandy

Meant to add the wheels were from an RS3 8p as i bought them 2nd hand. Plus the RS3 has 20mm wider track front and rear so by rights the same set up should be plug and play. Not the end of the world if not but would be nice

Ok so just an apdate, build date was probably going to be next year which would mean i would potentially miss the show season. So i cancelled it and got my deposit back due to no build allocation. Sticking with my manual S3 for another couple of years. Kind of makes sense really. Plus theres another turbo on the way for it which is going to change everything. So who knows whats going to happen...

My other hald’s build date for her Riviera blue sportback has been brought forward to next week. We ordered at the end of July and it’s due to be delivered to the dealer some time in January

Hm I would have ordered with another dealer, people are getting slots in March now!

Do it now or forever regret when they close the order books in a few months tops.

Thats good going, my problem was getting the build slot to coincide with the next batch of Riviera, was suppose to get a cancellation but it never came through. I was worried and didnt want to be out the game for a season, as my car promotes my business. So as much as i wanted one, it wasnt a complete disaster if i didnt get one, more harming to my daily work load more than anything. There will be other opportunities and im quite liking the new RS4 so may go down that road further down the line. Suppose i have only had the S3 a year..

Ill be honest i got a top deal with a massive contribution as i have a few mates at both local dealers. This was the best deal i was going to get. Its not the end of the world for me as i have over 500bhp in the S3 and get to keep the manual gearbox for abit longer. Theres pros and cons to both really

Yeah tbh i really like the S3 and i sat in the RS3 saloon at ADI and it was playing on my mind all the way home as to why i was doing it. Another 20k to loose power, then easily another 16k to make it how i would want it as i cant leave anything alone... so i decided i would late the build date decide it for me. Plus 1440kg with 500+bhp is great fun. And its abit of a one off and also the magazine feature has got it known. I love the S3 is a lager shandy and the RS3 is real ale haha!!

What is different between the pfl and fl to have no pops and bangs? Mapping?
