I want to get more noise from my exhaust in the cheapest way possible. Having done some research I like the idea of replacing the centre muffler with xpipes.

Am I right in saying the oem system is 2.25? (I hope so as I've just bought one on eBay)

I've seen some you tube clips but none with a S4 B6 cab. Has anyone got a link they could post.

Any tips, problems or suggestions gratefully received.

Sorry no one answered you dude.

Just found this trawling through.

To literally answer your question, the very cheapest thing to do is simply cut the back boxes off and get a straight pipe instead. INSTANT noise upgrade.

The X pipe thing whilst nice is NOT the cheapest solution.

Yes, OEM is 2.25''. If its simply a back box chop off, no need to go larger bore on them.

Personally, Ive got a full 3'' decat custom exhaust. Only restrictions are the smaller dual back boxes. Sounds beautiful past 3000k rpm

Hope this helps

Thanks for this. There's a great you tube clip of the rear boxes being removed and straight pipes fitted.

Love the sound - so now looking for a local fabricator welder in Berkshire UK.

No worries dude.

Fantastic that you found a clip. Whilst You Tube clips are good, it will sound even better in real life.

Yes, should be loads about. Definitely stay local and dont get ripped off either. Its a very simple job to do.

On my god!!!!!

£40 on some pipes from eBay and £75 to my friendly mechanic and I now have an S4 that sounds immense. A bit like an AMG!

Very pleased

My brother once fitted a butterfly valve just after the cat on his civic type r and wired a switch under the driver seat. It was there a day before he removed it. With the exception of removing the exhaust altogether, this is your loudest and cheapest option, bang for buck so to speak.

Subcribed. Do the x pipes work well on 4 cylinder/ turbo engines? The sound of RS4s/ C63s and M3s really is a thing of beauty, but I'm not sure if it's aided most by the V configuration or the volume of air flowing through it. Have you got any sound clips of yours Dan? I bet it sounds awesome :greyrs4:

Sorry for the delay, MAD busy with work and it will only get worse for the next couple of weeks so bear with me.

No X pipe for a 4pot as the cyclinder bank is not 2 on each side or say 3 on each side like a V6 so no point really.

My set up is a straight pipe all the way until the 2 dual 2.5'' split.

All you need to know is the bigger the diameter piping and less restriction (for a turboed car) = most possible power gained.

When im finished tuning, (hopefully in the next couple of months) I'll do a couple of proper pulls in my car with my go pro!

Sorry Dan missed your reply. Look forward to hearing it. I really should use my go pro. Had it about 5 years and it's been out of the box once grrrrrr.

I always hoped a simple mid resonator delete was possible on the b6 190 as it was on my old ep3 and 330 but sadly not...

Aftermarket exhausts are limited off the shelf for the b6 190 it seems..

It will be a couple of months before this as my car is having a lot of work done so fingers crossed will show some footage soon.

In the UK yes..hard to find UK''off the shelf'' exhaust systems.

In the US, there are lots of off the shelf full systems for the BEX or BFB.

- Jetex
- AWE
-Billy Boat

All make 'off the shelf systems.

Noticed UK sellers with jetex systems advertised... Anyone got any links to how it sounds? Not seen any of purely the jetex catback, most tend to be American and include decats/muffler deletes

This is true. I've not seen much myself.

If its not on google, it around. Haha.

I cant recommend getting a custom exhaust enough. These days, its a much better alternative.

Sorry for the late reply. Mad busy at work
