Hey guys,

It's time for a new car! :)

I had an S3 a couple of years back but unfortunately due to a change in circumstance it had to go... But I've landed myself a new job and I'm looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of an Audi again :)

I've decided on the A3 sportback 2.0 TDI 150 Black Edition, with the Tech pack and the Comfort pack.

Now I want it in black but I can't decide if the Mythos is worth the extra £550 over the brilliant finish?

Any thoughts or recommendations about my choices are welcomed :)

Any other black editions on the forum? I'd love to see your cars!

Vince

@VinceXR - Black or black eh ?
Best of luck keeping it looking nice buddy
The best colour when its clean but its keeping it clean thats the problem IMHO

Floret silver or ibis white would be my choice, but it ain't my car lol

Black is a nightmare to keep looking nice but when you get it right it can be the perfect colour. I have owned a number of Audi’s the last two being Daytona Grey. Colour is a matter of personal choice and your selection will be perfect and welcome back to Audi.

Mythos in my opinion it adds another dimension to the black paint plus it'll be slightly tougher being a metallic finish....... Flat black paint = a whole new world of pain.... I have a flat paint on my car and l can tell already it won't be as resilient as my pearlescent paint l had on my last car, so l wash very carefully and only use new micro fibre clothes when drying and adding coatings to it, but hey we are all different lf you live with more swirls and save £550 bangers, go for the flat paint

Or see the light and go Floret lol

I have a flat black A3. It looks great after 13k miles, a couple of tiny chips.

No issues with swirling as I am very careful how a wash it and I didn't let the dealer prep it.

Don’t go Floret as don’t want it to become to common :)

Seriously, wife has a flat Black Mini and looks great when clean but does show up every little bit of muck

Mythos Black is so much easier to live with than flat black. I've had both!

Mythos would be your choice if you don’t like the sound of swirls as the metallic flakes will hide them a bit more than a solid

But many places now do “swirl removers” such as Meguiars and if you’re careful when cleaning, you won’t get at many swirl marks

I’ll let this picture speak for itself

Looks tidy that mate!

What are you using to clean it?

Jet wash and snow foam before hand to remove any grit and then Meguiars ultimate wash and wax working top down so that any grit still present only swirls the lower parts of the car, works a treat

Seems to work well! Looks lovely mate,

The snow foam you use.. can it be attached to any jet wash? I've never use the foam before but I'm going to look into it.

White, silver or daytona...not black! I also think the black edition shows off the tints and mirrors better on a lighter car!

One of the reasons I looked at changing my S3 so soon was the fact that it was black! It's a PITA to keep clean and it shows everything! Great when clean but a few hours later!!!! I've only had the white A5 a couple of weeks and already noticed how slow it is to get dirty compared to the black!

Even after driving around on a wet day it still looked clean!

I had flat black on a TTS - I like detailing cars (to the extent that its possible to like it) and my God never again. You could mark the paint with your nail by brushing it on the surface. It looked fantastic when clean but it was a nightmare to keep swirl/hologram free. Personally I would never have flat black on a car ever again.

Last two cars were black, I couldn't wait to get something else.

Lovely when clean, just doesn't last that long. Oh, and the inevitable swirls.

You're rather lucky lol. I found that white got dirty after a couple hours of being cleaned, dirt really shows on white. Also as soon as it rained, the white got brown watermarks all over it! On darker cars dirt took a few days to show up. White is very easy to clean though as you didn't have to dry it and worry about watermarks compared to black.

Ive got a Karcher so you just use the lance attachment, just refill the existing bottle when it runs out

I find that white doesn't look that dirt until you clean it and then see the white white under the dirt :p But in the winters it's great, as you can just snow foam it, blast it all off and let drip dry without worrying about water marks :) Don't physically touch any of my cars much in the winter months, as they get dirty too quick, so not worth the potential scratches/swirls.
