Sorry if this has been covered before but i did search and found nothing.
Basically i have some led kick/scuff/sill plates (call them what you will) to fit on the a4...(2009 uk car)

I need to pick a live power feed up to run them only when the door is opened??
As its a uk car it doesn't have the footwell lighting in it otherwise it would be a simple job...

Any ideas on where best to pick a live feed from????
Im thinking i can splice into the loom that runs inside the drivers cabin footwell????

Any ideas which cables are which would be very helpfull...

I would assume it has a door pin switch to illuminate the interior lights when the door opens.

Perhaps the easiest place to splice into is that? It's only going to power when the door is open so ideal for that application.

I have been thinking of adding some footwell lights and that is where I would look to piggyback from!

Good point mate...i was hoping somebody on here would know how to do this but i will suss it.

Been a while since ive done it and last time was on a 95 fiesta. Door pin switch should habe an earth and live. Just splice into those and the illuminated sills should light up when the door is open.

There are no door pin switches on a B8. Things have moved on a bit :)
There is a microswitch in the door lock mechanism that detects when the door latch is open.

Just maybe some other info to keep you out of trouble, back in '95 most if not all cars tended to use these door switches as power switches primarily and also as sensors for alarm systems, nowadays, most cars use these "swtiches" and/or micro switches as inputs to controllers, so using them as a power source is never a good idea. So, look for a proper 12V supply like at the interior lighting, LED current draw will be minimal, but it normally pays to do things same as or close to what the manufacturer does.

To be fair the one i was on was proper low spec so alarm wasnt even present! Never even looked to see if the b8 had one lol

Thanks for your help lads,,,,
Will post a vid when i get round to fitting them..
I went for the audi logo in white,,,
Do a youtube search for audi moving led

Still struggling to find a decent power source for these kick plates??????
Had a look at weekend but easiest way i can see is to splice into the dome roof wiring for the lights..
Any easier options????

I would have thought that using the front interior light was probably the easiest way imho - dropping wiring down the front a-pillars each side

Cheers gary,,,,only way i can think of as well as i dont fancy hacking the interior loom apart...
Will have a go when we get decent weather....

Hi I have done this through the interior light, done this awhile ago and as far as I can remember the power actually comes from the earth, you will need a test lamp or meter for this, for some reason it back to front when you open the door for the lights to come on. very easy to do as you can run the wire along the headlining and down the a pillar and along the door trim.

Sorry to butt in but can I ask where you purchased the illuminated scuff plates?

I found a couple on ebay few but at crazy crazy prices, £400+!

Morning, I quite like these, are they decent quality?

Have you installed them yet?
Not fitted them myself yet. Should be ordering a set next week.

Would be great if someone could post some pictures of them lit up and comment on the quality.

Im thinking of selling mine if you want them???
Just not got the time to fit them...
£75 plus postage brand new in box

Really wanted to see them in action before I purchase a set for myself.

Have seen some mixed reviews on them, so wanted to see some lit up, etc before making the plunge.

Just the fronts for a 5 door avant...im assuming the saloon has the same size doors...

Have a scan through the facebook page as i posted a vid of them running in the house...
