Are you all running on Super or 95Ron?
I have an M140i (as well as the upcoming S4) and that has only ever been run on 98-100. But it only does 6k miles a year. the S4 will be doing 20k+ so I think it might have to make do with 95

I’ve run it on both and never seen any significant difference in economy or power to be honest. I believe the manual states the car is tuned for 95 Ron so there’s no real advantage in terms of economy or power using higher octane. Only benefit might be any cleaning additives or whatever they put in the premium ones...

Over 2.4 miles though... I'm sure that I could get that in the S4 if it was all downhill!
Not all downhill, mostly a slight uphill then all level, even overtook a car that was doing 40mph. But I will admit hard work to achieve and not strictly real world motoring but the challenge was made.

I find that pretty amazing then since my wife's little 1.0L Fabia can't even achieve that on the flat doing 40+ mph... Maybe I'll buy her a 2.0T A4 next!
A couple of commutes to and fro work has brought it down a tad, driving at the pace of other traffic this time and all urban. The average speed is down as I was having to negotiate traffic lights:

Lol, I could not stay with that style of driving, firstly I am not really that bothered with mpg and, with a car like mine, it is really designed for more spirited driving and I easily get bored...
What does it say inside the fuel cap? I'm currently driving a Golf R and it says 97 RON. Using 95 you loose power. I thought my S4 would be the same but maybe Not?

I’ve been using high octane stuff since I put the DTUK box on just to keep any knock at bay with higher boost pressures but on a stock car I really don’t see the benefit. If it’s tuned for 95 then I really don’t believe you’d see performance or economy improvements on 98/99...
Like putting race fuel in a stock car, I imagine all you’ll see is a decrease in fuel economy.

I’m currently pondering an S4 order going in and even more so after we did an 800 mike round trip a couple of weeks ago in our current car, b8.5 2.0tdi (190ps) quattro manual Avant, average speed of 58mph over the 800 miles and very sensible driving only managed 42.3mpg! Very disappointing for a diesel on mostly motorway miles!
Now coming on here and seeing people managing these figures with an S4??? I also have a b5 S4 that’s got a mrc stage 1 map which gets sub 20mpg and sometimes single figures but it gets driven properly
So to settle it I’m picking up a brand new S4 demonstrator tomorrow so I can compare it to our current car for the wife’s daily commute, 5 miles from one side of town out the other, current car manages 32-35 average for this trip each day, of the S4 returns the same sort of economy for the daily trip then I’ll take the car the dealer has arriving in 3 weeks time! Luckily they have one the exact spec I want on the boat
Oh and I’m aware with the demo being new the mpg will be a little less than when it’s run in, our a4 was terrible until nearly 10k miles and on its 2 full set of tyres!

I highly doubt that you’ll get near 30mph on a 5 mile run through a town to be honest. Last time I did a short trip and some stop start I got low teens for mpg. Heavy stop start and I’ve sat at 8-9mpg.
That said, if you do any sort of dual carriageway miles it soon improves and I’ve seen 39mpg over 60 miles while averaging about 60 mph.

When I say through town it’s a steady 30mph round the bypass, it’s a small town and not very busy with no traffic lights etc on her route, I’m just interested to see what it gets and to be honest we’re quite settled on taking the car that’s on the boat in time for Christmas

I do enjoy the noise of my b5 S4 with 3” decat downpipes and milltek system, I’m sure the b9 will be a far more refined noise! It’s what I’m looking forward to the most

I've got 100 miles on the clock so far, split between 3 trips. So far I managed 15mpg on a short fun drive on country roads and 29mpg on two motorway trips with a bit of town thrown in. Happy enough considering the engine isn't run in yet.

I’ve averaged 38mpg in a6 ultra over 60,000 miles. The book says average 64.9.
The book for s4 says 35.4mpg, about 30mpg less than the s6.
On that basis then, I will be happy if I do better than an average of 8mpg...

Ok so I picked this demo up last night, 40 miles on the clock and now at just under 140 miles, so in that 100 miles of mixed dual carriageway, coastal B road and round town with the odd boat of throttle it is returning a very impressive average of 32mpg! I say impressive as our current a4 2.0 tdi only returned 22-26mpg when it was new until nearer 10k miles!
The car itself is nice enough, maybe a little too refined for an s model for my liking but a nice car never the less, feels more connected to the road than the b8.5 but thanks to the horrendous continental tyres it’s very noisy on certain road surfaces, doesn’t tram line like the 255 tyres did though!
I’m in a predicament now, not sure what to do? All depends on the figures the dealer comes back with but the mpg is good enough for me

In terms of the figures, I'd highly recommend going on Carwow, Orange Wheels, etc. to see what kind of deals you can get from them before doing anything with your local dealership. I got a written quote via Carwow that was about £200 a month cheaper than the initial quote from my local dealership and after showing it to them they agreed to match it, so a massive saving.
Yeah I’ve been on carwow and told them I know what figures I can get so it’s up to them really

I’m glad you enjoyed the test drive and good luck getting to a deal. I am certainly enjoying mine and yes, it’s more refined than anything I have had previously but that is a plus and pushing the loud pedal in dynamic mode is still exciting enough to make me giggle. I really should grow up lol
Just back from dealer, figures are an extra £30 per month over my current A4 plus a £2500 deposit, told them I’m not paying any deposit so have left it with them, I’ll look forward to their phone call over next few days, they have until end of month to shift the car as they’re behind on targets this quarter
I used to get an average of 36 mpg from my A6 ultra I now get 24 mpg from my S4. My commute is s mix of country lanes, motorway and town. The problem is I just can’t resist the right pedal down the country lanes, may be I should take the car out of Dynamic mode one day and see what the difference is.
I've just ordered my S4 and the diesel did cross my mind.
Reasons for buying the S4:
Noise.
Feeling from the petrol engine.
Weight/Poise going through corners.
Noise.
Sports seats.
Just had a diesel.
Noise.
Speed (not much in it, but it is faster).
More fun overall.
Not doing the milage to justify a diesel.
Noise.
Can't wait to pick mine up and get 23MPG. Ha.
