how do I get the ****** thing to stay on.

I can’t stand the fact that when I switch the car off and turn it on , even though it starts in dynamic , when I drive off I goes all quiet even though it says dynamic on the screen and I have to cycle though the drive select before the exhaust note comes back

That's not great - surely it should stay in the same mode as last selected?

Nope. You have to cycle all the way back round, even though it says dynamic. I think someone had a theory that it's to do with emissions.

That’s the thing it does but you have to cycle through the drive select to get the dynamic sport mode again.... it’s just dumb... maybe coding needs to be done either that or I’m doing something wrong but I doubt I am

Not possible, all and every Audi is the same.

Audi say this is because in the event of a different driver entering the car after you, that driver may not expect or want the dynamic mode and could be dangerous. Seriously.....

Can’t remember where but it was quoted on here somewhere before.

See that’s dumb imo... I wonder if I set it all up in individual it would work?....... only one way to find out a suppose:whistle2:

Is it the same on the PFL?

Well known thing (car made like that), need to cycle driving modes every time ignition is turned off.

Boo!!!!!

Someone needs to sort out some coding for that sharpish!!!!!

Definitely all to do with emissions!

All cars nowadays will have their output tuned so that their emissions are as low as possible to ensure the overall is lower than their competitor. The dynamic feature available on some cars is actually classed as an extra, and therefore must be manually induced to override the settings that were the original design of the car. Thus it is not the manufacture but the user who has induced higher emissions - hence the reason why the programmers have made it so that the car must always start as it was officially classed.

On BM and Mercedes sites, as here, there is much knashing of teeth that dynamic must always be iniated on start-up. It must be very difficult to re-code it differently as no one has yet done it(??), despite there being some pretty hot computer whizzes on these sutes.

It is all about emissions and fuel consumption these days - Many FL owners are complaining that the crackles and pops have been lessened. This is due to fine tuning out the unburnt fuel and in part a reason that the FL has a classification of 8.1 - 8.3 litres consumption per 100Kms, and the PFL has 8.3 - 8.4... In car maker terms, this increase means an awful lot!

Hate that as well.
They could at least have coded it so that it always was in comfort mode on cold start. Then the sound would match the mode on the screen.

I did actually code this on my B8. It was a hack where i made it remember the gearbox mode (ie S vs D) this forced the exhaust flaps to follow suit. I found when the car started in dynamic my steering and suspension setting remained dynamic it was just the gearbox and exhaust flaps that went to auto.

Basically this means you just need to shift from P to D when you set off (who doesn't ) to force it rather than cycle the drive select modes

Check around a little and you find a lot of different boxes or a mod to shut it off or disconnect and so on to get the engine sound back :)

It's annoying but to make it quicker you can just switch into sport and then back into dynamic. Or programme the * button on the steering wheel to be drive select, whichever suits you :)

Not sure this would work on RS3 as if you simply start up and pull gearstick back for S you still don't get The Noise as you do in "real" dynamic. Still have to cycle the modes for that.

The same issue. What changes is that it fires up in proper S mode. When you move from P to D it is in proper S. You dont have to go P > D > pull down for S.

See this vid. The valves open when the car squats once moved out of P.

What's more it actually starts with them open in P if it's not doing a secondary induction cold start.

It works on mine, if i start up in dynamic it is noisier for 10 seconds then settles as normal, if I then cycle to sport the revs and noise increase, back to dynamic and it is as noisy as usual :)
I've never cycled through the modes properly to get it back.

@zaka7 you have FL though yes? In the PFL for certain you do not get pops and bangs on downshifts if you simply start the car already in dynamic then pull stick back for S. Only way to get them back is to cycle the modes.

I do indeed mate, Sorry I should have been more specific.

Open door - start engine - tap the Drive Select 5 times - Into S - Drive away.

Routine now.

Same here, looks like I'll be keeping up this routine when moving from S3 to RS3.

My FL I have to wait a few seconds, I'll count next time, before it lets me change the drive select settings.

I don't use the MMI screen to choose since as you say it takes a few seconds to start up. I check the Virtual Cockpit display and just keep pressing the drive select button in the centre console which changes the setting on VC.

The * button is a joke, it looses communication 50% of the times when i drive the car. In some ways i wish Apple would be part of the software development of the car, not just carplay ;)

I've had no issues with my * button at all. And it gets a lot of use!

That's why I refuse to buy any Apple product because I don't want my pants pulled down !

But so pretty ;)

The price of the iPhone X infuriates me, but I will probably still end up having it next month. I use my phone an awful lot, it more than pays for itself in usage.
