Don't leave your keys near the front of your house..

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4977134/Thieves-make-50-000-BMW-MINUTE.html

Essentially thieves have now got a way of picking up the signal from the key inside the house using a very sensitive 'dish' and then transmitting it (or maybe just relaying it), at the car so that the car thinks the key is much nearer than it is. They then just get in and drive off!

I wouldn't have keyless on mine if you paid me. I wouldn't be surprised if insurers start asking if the car has keyless fitted.

Saw that last night :-(
Cheap amplifier of the signal.
Wonder if they will bring out new key safe type boxes that block signal in house

It's not just near the front of the house as the "extender" adds a few hundred metres to the range of the key. I'd never have keyless entry, far too much security risk.

I took it upon myself to break down the “Comfort Pack”, so I still have Hill Hold Assist, B&O and Reversing Camera for about £50 less than the cost of the pack. It’s just I haven’t got advanced key now. As cool as it is having a start button, it’s not worth it.

While I were washing the loan car, the water running over the door handles was driving the system mad unlocking all the time.

Yep it's a real shame about the start button not being available on non keyless entry Rs3's. I think they're a nice touch.
But not worth the risk going keyless with a high value car.

Who would do such a thing?! **** it, it's a loaner!

I did 450 miles in it, the car was absolutely stinking after 250 miles in the p****** down rain up in the Brecon Beacons. I hate driving a dirty car, an hour of my time and it made the whole experience much more enjoyable :)

Looking at a stinking dirty car, isn’t a selling point for me.

Mine is usually filthy! Makes it look authentic, like it's been on a rally stage. Then when it does get its occasional clean it looks incredible and like I've got a brand new car!

This is why I'd never opt for keyless go.

I’m sure I read somewhere you can deactivate keyless if you want to on the FL

I’m sure if they can trick the car into it thinking the key isn’t 15 metres away, they can make the car think it wants to see a key. It’s how all the Focus RS thefts happen, reprogram car through the OBD.

Have you tested it close to car to confirm it blocks it
Would like to get something like this
I think for peace of mind check it yourself, lock the car and then chill and later check opening the car with the key in the pouch.
Mine doesn't open in the pouch

They can still get in to your car when you are out and about say parked at the supermarket. Do you carry it with you at all times ;)

TX.

Actually... I think it was the AWG I was reading about... not a factory fit on the car .... oops

Does anyone know about this thing where you have to put a 'pin' code in to start the car up? where you can set like a sequence of buttons on your steering wheel and unless you don't know it you cant start it? Not sure what models this is available on but I seen it on facebook the other day.

This is what has been discussed all through this post, haha.

I'd rather have keyless where they take it from outside the house rather than they break in looking for the keys....

Let me get this straight, you'd rather make it simple as taking sweets from a baby just so they might not bust in to your house looking for the keys?!

Come on guy's , security , security .

I saw a Disklok on a 51 plate Vectra B yesterday .

Well, I wouldn't put a flashing sign outside and my home security is pretty good but a straight up choice between someone just taking the car and someone coming in my house then yep.

Might I suggest another plan -

Put some kind of barrier in your drive way - a gate or something will do and then its too much hassle for anyone dodgy

For those looking at the signal blocking pouches/wallets... if you’re going to buy one make sure you go for a good one, as cheaper ones don’t always work 100% of the time... especially the real cheapies off eBay

have you tested it right next to your car?

I bought this exact one and can confirm it works well. I've been stood right next to the car and it wont open when in the pouch. You must remember to put the key BEHIND the gold flap though, not infront of it... that's very important otherwise it doesn't block the signal.

ok mate appreciate that. will defo buy one for keeping the keys in over night.

Bought the puches you recommended
Looked a wee bit nsfg when i got them but literally couldn't unlock the doors with the key sitting next to handle do they are pretty fantastic.
Can't grumble for a few pound online
