My new (to me) A3 is showing an oil change service due in 800 miles and inspection service due in 3400 miles.

I emailed a local Audi specialist about indicative costs and he's suggested we do both services together in approx 1700 miles and that the cost would be £120+VAT including genuine Audi parts.

Is it me being out of touch or is that insanely cheap? Like 'alarm bells' cheap? I paid not much less that every year for a full service at a cheapo trade place when I had a Focus.

How old is your car?

I run my own little workshop and also a VAG specialist. If it just needs an inspection and oil change then the price Is about right. I would be charging about £100/£105 no vat for that depending on oil quantity.

Well I think I am being well and truly done. About six weeks ago an oil change cost around £250 and now I have to have an inspection service costing the same! So £500 in all . Car is S3 now two years old 12k miles .
Though this was first services so maybe I need to go on fixed annual ...

An inspection is just a vehicle health check, no parts are needed. Audi charge 1.2 hours for an inspection. So should be no more than 1.2 hours of labour in total.

1.2 hours! I bet it is 0.2 hours for the inspection and 1.0 hours for the wash/vac!

1.2 hours is the book time, realistically you can do this in 30 mins, the free visual health check covers 90% of the inspection check list anyway. So it’s a massive rip off.

Well it had the visual check six weeks ago .
I suppose I am paying for a box to be ticked . I won't let them touch my paintwork.

I suppose I will have to consider it as £250 a year . Compare that to my little vw which gave me two services and air condition service for £280 in the same two years , I still feel ripped off .

If the car's done only 12K in two years, then it should be on fixed service - annual. So any inspections and servicing should have been done at the same time.

Cars due its first service in 400 miles, anyone know what price I'm looking at from Audi? Anyway to bargain them down or is it a set price?

If you really want Audi to do it, they will price match within a 15 mile radius (if I remember right) but I believe you need a written quote and the garage needs to be using genuine parts.

Thanks mate will give it a go.

If I did use another garage would I need to provide Audi with anything to show service has been completed with genuine parts?

Not sure if you'd need to show them anything but for warranty purposes probably best to at least ensure the garage uses genuine parts or that the receipt shows them.

My first service on my S3 at 1K miles (oil and filter) which is the same as what its true first service at 10K miles should be. Set me back a total of £8inc vat ;)

How much should it have cost?

Just had the wife's S3 done - £202.
March 2016 car, now on 10900 miles

Oh- asked for it not to be washed but it could do with a vacuum please and.... they did not wash it and the inside was really clean !
Well done Camberley Audi!

Bexley Audi @ £210
Chelmsford @ £265

Add in oil change
Bexley @ £367
Chelmsford @ £321

I can imagine it's like wheel of fortune when you call and ask...."just one min sir and we'll give the wheel a spin and see where it lands for you today"

Lucky I like the buscuits and coffee

What did Essex Audi group want to charge u as a comparison?? - Southend/Harold Wood/ Biships Stft... Or did u not bother to ask @Baldyone ??

Thanks all. Seems like the costs are pretty normal then for a non dealer service. Didn't realise the inspection service was just a visual box ticking thing.

Didn't check, assumed as it's one group the pricing would be pretty much the same, hence the call to Bexley to get another franchise pricing. May call Southend tomorrow just to see. I'm due another oil change in 5,000 mile but I'll get an independent garage to do that with Audi Oil & filter. Just want the inspection at Audi and need the water pump checking for a leak.

Can anyone recommend Audi specialists around either Exeter or Nottingham? I've got my 38000 mile 2nd service and S-tronic oil change due and just had an eye watering quote from the main dealer!

Give us a laugh at the quote barrowboy.

£373 for service/inspection/pollen filter. £245 for S-tronic oil change. Including VAT.

Paid £250 for the S3's first oil change just the other day from West London Audi - it's a lot for an oil change but I couldn't find a reliable independent nearby soon enough.

On the plus side though they did find my backbox had a hole in it

Quote from the Indy is £163 cheaper for the service/inspection although they wont be able to update the electronic service schedule. Gearbox oil change is only £38 cheaper than main dealer.

So not overly relevant but as a comparison.
Main dealer in southern France, manual S3, annual servicing (car goes in just once a year regardless of mileage)
Yr1 229 euro
Yr2 266 euro
Yr3 286 euro including Haldex oil change (which had to be specially ordered)

On the myaudi portal I can select any dealer, input which service is due and it give me a fixed price including whether I want wiper blades/long life oil.

That’s because stronic oil is ridiculously expensive

I thought that on my S3 2014 model when it came up for first service - Chelmsford £272 - Southend £295 - All Essex Audi group - Figure that out - Wife went to see her sister in Birmingham and they did it for £196!!

Took service plan on my current S3 (2016) - £15 per month so realistically not enough in the pot to cover their service charge - I have a friend whose a Mastertech at Audi and he said Parts and service have to reduce their costs so it's fits in with the service plan - I do find it annoying that they will do an Oil and Filter change for a set price of £199 when the car is 3 years old to stop people coming out of main dealer but not for new - It's the same Oil and Filter!!

I thinking about just getting a friend who runs a garage to do it, he's said he'll do it for £60, he's advised to check with Audi first incase it affects the warranty but I thought EU law said you can have it done at any Garage as long as they used genuine parts?

You wanna be quick...this eu lark is getting out of hand quickly!

I think this has been mentioned on here before. It is an eu directive that is established as part of uk law.
Anyway, even if not the act that was passed a month or two ago will take all eu law into uk law anyway.

Newbury £234 for my S3's first oil change service at 14k miles and 13 months old
