Hi all,

New member here with this being my first post. I am currently negotiating a deal on an new S4 saloon and this will be my first Audi after numerous BMWs. I need more practicality and all weather ability due to a change in job and aging parents so I am having to say goodbye to my beloved M235i however as excited at the prospect of owning an S4!

The dealer is offering me a stock car which is actually better spec than I was after however it is missing adaptive suspension. My question before I test drive is how firm is the ride without adaptive? My M235i is firm which is fine however I wondered if there is anyone on here who moved over from BMW who could give me a comparison.

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Thanks
Gary

I don't know how they compare to the BMW setup but the standard suspension versus the adaptive isn't night and day. The comfort setting is a little softer and the dynamic is a little stiffer but not wildly different.

I don't mind slightly stiffer spring setups and have had a couple S-lines in the past that I'd say were stiffer than the standard setup. Again, I'm comparing Audis to Audis rather than a BMW so my advice would be to ask for a drive in something with the s-line suspension and see what you think.

I'd imagine you'd get a good feel for it in any A4/S4 variation so long as it had the stiffer setup.

And remember, Audi don't come with run flats ... that itself would probably make up the difference betweeen adaptive on RFT to non adaptive on non rft (assuming you had rft on the BMW)

M*35i don't have fun flats either as standard only as an option. M235i's on passive dampers are pretty hard but ok on adaptive. The S4 on passive will be similar to the M235i on adaptive but it's how it feels to you so a test drive is a must.

Thanks for the replies guys I expect the S4 to have a firm ride but am hoping it will be a little more planted and More composed on a longer run due to the wider, longer track

I had an M135i with Pilot Super Sports which were standard tyres then an M235i with run flats due to getting the 19" wheel upgrade where non run flats were not an option. They have come a long way so the ride was ok but certainly firmer and when you hit a pothole you know about it!

I'll have my test drive sorted out when back from holiday if the car is still available so should find out for myself soon

Previous to my current car S4 Avant B9 I ran a M135i for 15 months (15 plate) Audi when in Dynamic is very firm, the 135 didn't have run flats but Mich Pilot Super sport (awesome tyres).

Personally the S4 feels better, Quattro certainly helps the acceleration as in the 135i always felt very light on the wheel and not grounded.

The noise is also better in the S4.

Thanks for the feedback it's interesting you think Dynamic is firm compared to the M135i. You're right the MPSS are fantastic tyres I had them on my 1er but were not available on the 2er as I got the 19" 405m wheels. The Pirelli P Zero run flats are not bad but certainly lack grip in the cold weather

So I test drove a car last week and I will not say how it went or post any comparisons just yet.

I collect my car on Thursday so suffice to say it went well - more details after collection however I am looking forward to owning my first Audi:)

Great to hear ! I have adaptive on my S4: even in dynamic, it’s very comfy .. no bangs on potholes that would have sent a shudder through my x3 ...

That’s good to hear I guess non run flat tyres makes a difference also when hitting a pothole

Very nice mate but is that Daytona or Monsoon grey as it looks much darker than mine?

How's the magma interior, great contrast against the otherwise dark cabin, so glad I decided on that.

Thanks mate I was happy when I recieved the pics! I’m sure it’s Daytona Grey but will check the spec again tomorrow just to be sure. Roll on collection day on Thursday as I have the day off work so a full afternoon of running in the car!

Oh yeah meant manhattan not monsoon!

Thought it looked darker than Daytona.

Still looks lovely and very stealth like with the black pack...magma seats just gorgeous!
