2.0 TFSI delays

A mate of mine went into Audi today to ask about a 2.0 petrol A4 BE, he was told that engine is now only available in quattro! Anyone confirm this?

The configurator on the Audi website shows exactly that (I only checked S-Line saloon though) - no 2.0 apart from Quattro - which is quite a £ jump from the 1.4.

I've just had confirmation from the retailer that even though my build is due to start on 20th November the car will still be delivered in December!

Can't see it myself!

I think that it would actually come down more to how fast they can get it on the boat and then off and to the dealership on our side than the actual build to be honest. Those two elements appeared to be where mine hung the most. That said, if it gets to QC and there's something wrong with it then it'll obviously take longer at that point to get whatever it is fixed.

All that said, it would be tight but I think it's possible!

I thought I would just add my experience to this post. I have been negotiating a new S4 Avant with a couple of dealers over the last week or so (with them both estimating November delivery). One of them told me last week that they can still order the car from Germany after I asked them the question regarding the suspended orders (I don't think the Audi website was stating at that point that orders had been suspended though, as it is now).

The other dealer has told me today that they have checked with their Sales admin dept and they can now order the S4 Avant (he confirms that Audi wanted to make sure all supplied figures matched the actual figures for emissions). Interesting though that although the Audi website states you cannot order these cars currently, the dealers I am speaking to are saying you can.

I suppose regardless of whether you can order or not, it's the potential additional build time that may be added on due to a backlog that needs to be considered (which of course the dealers could not be telling me about, just to get another order in the book). The dealers I am speaking with are still stating circa November for delivery though, which is hard to believe given some of the posts on here. It's difficult to know what to believe.

That's odd then, they are cutting a lot of potential buyers out of the A4 market by doing that. My mate being one of them!

He was looking at £35,500 for the 2.0 front wheel drive BE, the other two options are the 1.4 @ £31,500 or the 2.0 quattro @ £40,400 which takes people into the high tax bracket for 5 years!!! As you say if you want something higher than the 1.4 it's a big £9k jump.

I've decided to continue with my order as I have a car until the Audi is delivered, it's not ideal as I'll need to put 2 rear tyres on and service my 3 series but stuff happens.

Hopefully it'll be here before Christmas.

It'd better be worth the wait....

Me too, although my dealer is being up front and saying don't expect it until January/February. Having flipflopped between a C200 AMG and A4 BE for too long, I really can't be bothered to start looking at other options now that I'm happy with what I decided on and options etc.

As you say "it'd better be worth he wait!"

EDIT: Just seen that the build a new car configurator is now gone back to allowing the option to choose 2.0 tfsi fwd again (was previously only 1.4 or quarto)......maybe things are back on track? OK, I'm being optimistic.

Maybe and my fingers are crossed for you, but the configurator is known for its history of having these kind a hiccups...

Well, I got a strange call from the dealer yesterday. They still haven't confirmed that my order has been placed, but, they have sourced a similar car with a build date (expected delivery Jan 18!). That car includes the tech pack, which I wasn't bothered about, and doesn't have nappa leather.....which I really did want.

The strange bit though, the dealer said they'd get the leather done in the UK after delivery from the factory and assured me it would be just as good. I'm kind of tempted, but something says this will all just go t*ts up. I really can't seen how they'd the seats done after build for just the £800 Audi charge for the option.

Any thoughts?

Perhaps they'll swop the whole seats over from a donor car, why not ask them how they will perform this as you are concerned for the reasons you stated? Have they stated it't be a re-cover job as I would have thought it would be in the thousands..

They did state they would be "professionally" done in the UK, so I assumed this would be a re-cover. I'd have been happier if they said they swap the seats though. Given they're still taking about a Jan delivery, I'm tempted to just wait for what I want.......I mean how long can it take ***!

Think I'll just pop in there later and take another look at the standard seats as well, maybe my initial dislike was more imaginary than real. Might be better just settling for those, but then if we're still talking Jan, I don't know.

Having read about people complaining about a lack of engine response though, maybe this delay will play into my hands.

On the Audi UK website the co2 and combined MPG figures for my car have changed. The co2 figure is 145 and the combined MPG is 44.1, mine are 141 and 45.1 respectively.

Yep I've had confirmation on the tracker that mine is to start it's build on 20th November, being realistic when am I likely to receive the car?

Looking like I will cancel as well.

Had a look this morning and it's jumped forward a week to the 13th November, is this normal?

Yes seems normal, mine was originally expected build of 4th Sep but then jumped to build date of 21st Aug, it's already now showing as Assembly on the tracker but understand this is automated based on the build week. Hope to see it update to QC this week though hopefully before transit.

Playing on the configurator this morning I noticed the 2.0 was back in non-quattro form this morning (might have been s-tronic only though).

It was back last week Neil, although my dealer still hasn't confirmed the order has been placed with Audi.

........and today I finally received confirmation of my order with an order number. I wonder how many months I'll have to wait?

I don't know if it'll make you feel better or not but I ordered on the 20th April and the first email I got was actually in June, just days before it started production... If I hadn't got the order number from my salesman when I paid my deposit then I'd have just been left hanging I think. Hopefully that means it won't be too ridiculously long for you!

Just a small update, I spoke to the dealer yesterday and my car is still scheduled to be built on the 13th November but in their words they are "guaranteeing delivery mid December!"

My order was placed at the end of June but I got an existing order slot of the 1st of June so it'll be at least 6 1/2 months from order to delivery!
