S5 fuel & the first 1000!

Forgive me is there are other existing threads regarding fuel and running in topics but I could do with some advice from existing S5 owners please.

1) Would you recommend using premium fuel?
2) Do you recommend a running in period for the first 500/1000 miles?

Feedback is much appreciated.

Yes, I only use shell v-power in mine, and yes I tried to keep below 4000rpm for the first 1000 miles and then built up my revs thereafter

V-Power here too. My dealer said I shouldn't care about the run in period, there is no such a thing these days, so I've hammered it from the beginnings

Yes, existing thread is called S5 MPG.
I don't believe in using a higher octane rating fuel (i.e Premium) than the manufacturer recommends on the fuel cap,for the S5 that's 95 RON.
I got 40 mpg on a 250 mile trip when mine had done 1000 mls in Efficency / D mode so am quite happy with that.

Yes, RON standards for Research Octane Number, that's ordinary unleaded (its 95 Octane in old fogey talk ) as opposed to super unleaded.

I use tesco momentum 99 RON in mine, not an S5 just a TFSI 190 but it's the same price as ordinary 95 at a BP garage! and clubcard points too lmao

Last time I got V Power it was 20 p A LITRE more, won't be back at Shell, negligible difference between it and Tesco Momentum anyway. Turbo cars prefer 99 ron N/A cars no difference so pointless really.

True, a catch can from factory would help, can't see that ever happening though, one of the downsides of direct injection.

Always happens to some degree though with any direct injection motor. I had real problems on my old scirocco 2 litre 4 pot. The extra additives and detergent in the premium fuels should help though as well as the higher RON causing a later burn

I'm not sure using 99 RON fuel actually helps reduce carbon build up v's 95 RON fuel from the the same company - Shell.
As I don't keep my cars that long it's not been an issue and don't see spending out on top notch fuel for the next owner's benefit.
All my cars have run perfectly well on 95 RON.

Unless the engine is injecting fuel before the valves,the additives wont make a difference to the usual inlet valve carbon issues

240-260, with mixed city/country road some motorway.
340 was the best for me so far on mostly motorway.

It is actually quite easy to figure out my mpg, since I usually put about 10 gallon of fuel in, when the tank is close to empty, so whatever miles I've driven divided by 10 thats the mpg.

Thanks, I'm just trying to work out on average how many times I'll need to fill the car up P/M. Running some personal outgoings for myself.

I tend to use v power, have done so on last 3 cars.

Have had S4, S3 and current S5 and never really bothered with running in at all and not had any issues whatsoever, but then I tend not to drive it like I stole it as if I break it it's my hard earned cash down the pan!

1) Don't bother running in.
2) Use whatever unleaded you like.
