Hi!

I'm considering to purchase an RS4 grille for my 2011 Audi A4 Avant 2.0 TDi and was looking to hear from you on a few things beforehand.

I've looked up these two primarliy:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-A4-S...020110?hash=item361c1ee28e:g:CVAAAOSwbtVZXsG3
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-A4-S...481077?hash=item3d42120075:g:Z9gAAOxycmBSuPN4

But I'm not sure what's the difference between them. One of them is "Euro Honeycomb Hex Mesh Gloss Black Grill" and the other is "Gloss Black Mesh Front Hood Bumper Grill", though I can't tell them apart visually.

The former has "euro" in its name contrary to the latter, does that mean I'll have to get that one for my car as I live in Norway, especially considering my license plate?

I would also really appreciate it if someone could confirm compatibility with my car. Keep in mind it's a 2.0 diesel if that has any say.

The full specification is 2011 Audi A4 B8 Avant Attraction 2.0 TDi.

Thanks a lot for your help, I really appreciate it!

Regards,
Erik

Hi Erik, visually the first looks like it includes parking sensor holders and you can have it without Audi Rings and numberplate (if you wish). The second one looks like you cannot remove the number plate holder and doesn't have the parking sensor holders at the bottom.

Thank you for quick reply! I see, those aren't any worries for me as I'm located in Norway where we are bound to have front plates unfortunately. Also my car does not feature front parking sensors so that won't be a concern either. The question I'm mostly worried about is the plate on the last link. Do they fit european license plates? Also, the compatability section on the listing doesn't list my exact model, but it features the A4 Quattro Avant. Is there any differences from that model to mine, considering mounting?

To my knowledge no difference in bumper on a quattro to non quattro.

best change I made to my front end. Take the plunge and enjoy mate!

Yup - I checked through USP Motorsport a with a similar looking if not identical one and it was confirmed compatible with my car.

Just ordered the one for some 70$ yesterday as sensor mounts aren't needed (don't have front sensors) and license plates are obligated in Norway.

Delivery is estimated for next week, literally cannot wait!

The install instructions mentions reuse of bumper foam and spraying the support black. I didn't quite understand why they said foam - I can't see any from the pictures. Can you please describe what you did?

The standard grill has foam between the metal bumper bar and the back of number plate mount. When I did my RS grill conversion I needed to cut away some of this foam to get the bumper to go back on properly.

Ah ok. What color is this foam, and are there any negative sideeffects to removing it or is it redundant on the new grille? I've got some black rubber paint spray (basically plastidip) should it be required to make the metal bumper bar another color

i followed this guide

by Scottish and took away the foam altogether, sprayed the panel black and refitted.the new grill wont fit with the foam

Thanks for link! Although I can't view the photobucket images? - it says something about upgrading an account. So the foam isn't needed with the new grille - do you know why or is it just to free more space?

Also, by panel - do you mean the metal bar behind the grille? The bumper support?

correct the foam isnt needed and yeah the metal bar behind the grill spray it black so it dont show up when you have RS4 grill fitted cos you will swear like a goodun if you dont

Got it. Was at the store today and picked up a black rubber spray, believe it is very much like plastidip. How is the foam secured, or how do you remove it? Is it convenient or do you have to cut it?

I'm going to follow these instructions, as the photos in the one you linked aren't viewable: https://www.uspmotorsports.com/downloads/b8-rs4-grille-instructions.pdf

Would you please be kind enough to quickly sweep through and check if it is similar to what you did, and that it seems correct?

thats exactly what i did but be aware that on number 8 u have to give it a really good pull outwards.when i did mine i wasnt being brutal enough and it felt like i still had a bolt in place but was just being a tart and not pulling it hard enough. The foam is just held in place and just lifts out

Thanks for the tip! It says "Remove the (3) 10mm bolts securing the bumper cover. Repeat this on both the driver and passenger side. " and shows three arrows indicating where the mentioned bolts are located. As they aren't visible in the photo, where do you access them?

Yeah - too bad they changed their policy. Thanks a lot for the video! I'll be sure to upload photos when I'm done. Crossing my fingers the grille arrives tomorrow, it left the airport 45 minutes away from me on friday evening but they don't operate during weekends

Yeah - the video looks nice. I'll be sure to setup a nice workplace with blankets and take photos and markings along the way. I'm thinking I'll be disassembling the original bumper today to make sure no issues, and then I'll only have to mount the new one when it arrives hopefully tomorrow. Does it hurt for the hydraulic/pressure air system in the hood to be left open for a day or two?

I'll definitely take photos when I'm done, no worries

Spent the day in the garage now - both videos I watched and the motorsports how-to introduced a few problems as the pictures didn't show the same setup as my car had. Luckily, I found another one here that worked great: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/426322-B8-S4-Bumper-Removal-and-Grill-Replacement

I've removed the grill completely now, removed my license plate and have the first coating of paint done. About to remove the Audi logo from the grill. Hopefully the new one will arrive tomorrow.

Little update on the progress so far:

So the grille has yet to arrive - I spoke to the local mail services and they haven't registered anything after it left the US. USPS tracking says it left the airport in Oslo, Norway - so either way it's less than 50 minutes away. They had the day today so hopefully it clears customs, arrives at the terminal and gets sent out to my local post office tomorrow. Everything else is prepared and ready. The painting on the metal bar turned out very nice, and the rings, etc have been removed.

Just got my new grille! Super stoked, it looks very nice!

I'll be installing it after dinner, but I have a few questions as to how to secure the audi logo emblem mount on the grill itself. There was a few mounts and screws that followed with, but I'm unsure as to what is the proper way.

Also there's no screw holes for my license plate - how would you go about securing it?

I have literally just completed this mod on my A4 just last weekend, totally transforms the front of the car.

Not sure which grille your purchased.

Mine had 5 screw holes (similar to your first link) for the rings but I only needed to use the top 3 to secure it in place, not sure if your is the same (second link looks like it just clips into place). My rings were already attached to the holder as well. My number plate holder was more difficult. It just clipped into place but the clips and the honeycomb holes it clips into did not quite line up, so needed some force, no screws though but added security, I used some glue resin to help hold it just encase.

This is the one I purchased: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-A4-B8-RS4-Style-Front-Grill-Grille-S4-Black-Edition-2008-2011-UK-STOCK/192170701063?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

One annoying this is after the install, is you can now see the silver crash bar. Couldn't figure out how to add the foam back to cover it, so looks like it's time to remove the bumper again and paint it or figure out someway to add the foam block back.

Sorry but didn't really offer you any advice, I just noticed.

Problem is, there is quite a few different grilles available online and each have a slightly different way to mount rings/number plate.

The one I got didn't even come with any screws, had to source myself.

Have you got a link to the actual one you purchased or an image?

I bought this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-A4-S...481077?hash=item3d42120075:g:Z9gAAOxycmBSuPN4

The license plate mount is already integrated into the grill and can't be removed. I went with that option as we are obligated to carry front plates in Norway.

The grille does not have screw holes itself, but there was a few screws and mounting brackets I assume are meant for the rings. Also the emblem holder has a few screw holes in it.

The big question is how I am supposed to mount the actual license plate to the plate holder (which is already secured as mentioned above). The options seem to be to either drill through the plastic and use the screws I used for the stock grille, or to use some form of glue.

I read about the silver support problem and had it spray painted with plastidip equivalent a few days ago - so that's all good!

I just used Double Sided Tape (industrial strength stuff) as that is how Audi fitted my Number Plate from factory, no screws. Just make sure you use enough to hold it tight., I used 6 strips and it aint budging!

I have some plasti-dip in black, may have to use that on the crash barrier. Thanks for the tip.

I see - that might be an idea. I also got some drilling screws that followed with my previous plate - those could work nicely.

Yeah the plastidip worked perfectly

i drilled some small holes into the number plate holder using number plate holes as a template and used the screws to screw to the holder

Just finished installing! Turned out 100% awesome. Definitely a must-have upgrade. Pic below

Just done mine last weekend. Looks so much better. Seems to be the go-to mod for B8s. So effective though.

Little help guys and gals if you would be so kind :)

Jut completed my Honeycomb grille upgrade but not keen on the black rings, so would like to use my original chrome rings. Managed to remove the old badge holder of my new grille and after destroying most of my fingers, removed the black Audi rings BUT for some strange reason, the black rings are just slightly larger than the OEM chrome rings and won't fit he holder supplied with my grille.

Anyone got any good suggestions as to how I can attach the original OEM rings to my grille?

Go-to mod for sure, turns the car from a sweet Audi to a really eye-catching and like stunning Audi. Seeing one with this grill on the street makes you go "oh wow, that's a nice car" instantly, that //RS feel

Oh that's a tough one. I had slight problems installing my OEM chrome rings that I took off my original grill emblem mount (which btw is integrated to the stock grille). They seem to be of a slightly different sizes, or at least the clips behind the mount that hold the rings don't fully engage. I got it on pretty nicely in the end, with an acceptable little gap between rings and mount.

It seems they're not all identical. Perhaps you would check with tcboverstock on eBay or TBC Motors if they have a spare emblem mount you could buy? Perhaps attach the measurements of your chrome rings for compatibility confirmation at the same time

Thanks for the top erikdude27.

Couldn't find at the right size, so will have to engineer something to enable it too fit.

Just don't think the all black front suits my colour of car, shame.
