Black edition due in November. I was thinking, with all the chrome being black on the black edition, and with me having it de-badged, the only bit of chrome will be the Audi rings and I thought it would look pretty smart having the front and rear Audi rings replaced with black ones.

Has anyone done it and does anyone know the best place to get them for the B9?

I've not done it yet, but was planning to get the rear done gloss black when I get the car at the beginning of September so can take some pics for you if I remember.

Had black rings on the front of my B8.5 with RS grille and wouldn't do it again to be honest. Just too much solid black for me. I'll be getting the front ones wrapped in the same sating silver as the rest of the body so they stand out from the front grille but aren't chrome.

Yeah, send me some pics please mate. That will be great. I just think everything being black will look great. Especially considering there will be zero other chrome on my car. I might look at wrapping them instead of buying replacements so I can just remove the wrap when the car goes back after two years!

Done it myself.

The easiest way is to buy some new rings from the dealer, two coats of plastic primer, three coats of black paint and three coats of (in my case) matt lacquer. Job done an total cost around £35.

Removing the original ones is easy (plenty of YouTube clips out there) I left the front grill silver - for now :racer:

You can buy black aftermarket ones but I can't seem to find B9 ones. They're only about £8 each. I may try vinyl wrapping them.

Rings from the dealer normally cost about £25, so if the copies are good quality then £8 is a steal :racer:

£13.98 for the front and rear delivered and they look pretty decent. Not sure if they fit the B9 though.

Ah, ok. Best laid plans and all that.....

Not all Audi rings are created equal unfortunately, some of them do have a "profile shape" to them - for example on the 7 series, the rear hatch lip is not flat, it has a curve to it. Meaning a standard generic rear badge doesn't fit. The front badge is much more generic, so fingers crossed you at least get one useable ring out of the set.

I've got until the end of November to find one that fits. :)

I was thinking meh ... black rings would look kinda awful, but seeing @RAF_S7 's picture, I quite like it, depends a lot on car colour, I'm not sure Black on Black, but then again what do I know given the beginning of this sentence!

Completely agree, colour of the car is a make or break deal on whether to go black on the Audi rings or not :racer:

I'm going to plasti dip them black. I'll post pics when it's done.

Let me know how it wears too, I did it to a badge before and I just couldn't get it to stick. Ended up flying off on the dual carriageway! Twice!

Did plenty layers and cleaned them thoroughly before as well so don't know why it wouldn't stick properly...

Red and Black or Blue and Black look cool on the back, undecided about the fronts at the moment.

Yeah, I'm hoping that the rear looks good against the silver too... The front one I think needs a little contrast in my opinion, hence why I think I'll wrap it in the same satin silver as the body.

I like the rear against contrasting colours sometimes think the all black grill and black rings looks like the chrome badge has been stolen. At the same time the chrome may look strange with everything else done black

That was my thinking and why I originally thought about getting black ones. The only chrome will be the Audi rings and the s line badges.

In my head, everything being black will look awesome. But if not, however I choose to do it (plasti dip or replacement badges) I can change back if it doesn't look right.

Behind a black A3 this morning with no rings and no badges, looked OK, thoughts?

I personally think black on black looks great. Not my car but will definitely be doing this when mine arrives.

Not a fan of the black on black I'm afraid... I think that it just needs some contrast otherwise it really does just look like someone's stolen the badges (as said before).

I can kinda see what you mean. Perhaps matt black?... or am I clutching at straws?

Haha. That would at least give some contrast I guess? But for me I'd go with maybe like a matte silver or a titanium to match the colour on the rotor wheels?

I like the idea of matching the wheels.

Yeah, that only popped into my head because I was trying to come up with an alternative to the matte silver like I'll probably end up doing. Haha.

Black on black just looks a bit too boy racer for me. The next step would be neon exterior under lighting ... not sure it suits the brand.

Or maybe I'm just getting old

I went back and forth in my mind between keeping touches of chrome on the front and back to tie in the chrome around the windows and the chrome S-line mirrors - or going with black to tie in the dark wheels and dark grill. I ended up going with black rings on the front and like the look. I think I am going to trade out the rear chrome rings for black as well. Gives the car a nice sinister appearance.

I think ‘sinister’ should include wrapping your chrome window surrounds, mirrors, front grills and lower front lip in matt black as well :racer:
