Hi everyone,

Just ordered my 1st Audi:

A4 S-Line
Brilliant Black
1.4TFSI S-Tronic
Tech Pack
Rear View Camera
Folding Mirrors
Storage Pack
Comfort Suspension

Dealer says it'll be November until I get it though, which is aaaages away. I get impatient waiting for porridge in the microwave! No idea how I'm going to last that long.

Can't wait to get my hands on it. Haven't driven the 1.4 yet... I'm coming from a 1.7 Diesel with about 115BHP (Hyundai IX35 Premium) so it should feel quick to me, even if it might not to some of you!

Ordered on the 11th July, waiting for the order number so I can sit refreshing the Audi build tracker 50 times a day for the next few months...

Ive also got a 1.4 TFSI S-tronic Black Edition with lots of goodies on order, coming from a 1.5 diesel manual, so im going full circle haha.
I ordered mine 28th June and my expected time is Late September so thats jumped quite a bit in the last fortnight???

The Black Edition has some nice styling. Would have been tempted myself but didn't want to stretch the budget tooo much. Nice options as well. If yours can jump a couple of weeks then hopefully mine can too. Dealer was very adamant about it though. To be fair, I'd rather be told November and it be November than be told September or October and it not actually come then.

Oh i totally agree; i got my order number last week and my build slot has come through for 21st August, it typically sales through and its just how long it takes to then get to the UK, end of September looks promising if all goes well.
Let the wait begin!

I don't think you'll be disappointed by the 1.4 tfsi. It is a remarkable engine and others who,have it in the A4 report very favourably on it. I had it in an A3 and it was a fabulous little power unit.

Welcome and I can assure you will love the 1.4 as I came from a 2.0 TDI but have no regrets, plenty enough torque and you can drive it like a diesel pulls from 1,500rpm so never need to exceed 2,500rpm. Enjoy.

One random question: Do they come with floor mats? I didn't notice them mentioned anywhere, and didn't think about it until now.

Yep, come with fitted carpet mats, or should, last car I bought Arnold Shark told me they had dumped the VW fitted carpet mats due to hygiene reasons.

Ok, next stupid question...

I see the option for the Hill Hold Assist (which I haven't specified). Why would one need this over and above the handbrake? Can't I just flick that on when on a hill? I seem to remember from my test drive that it disengages automatically anyway (this was an s-tronic).

Well worth £75 totally miss it as it was on my last car. Using the handbrake is duff and functions differently to the HHA.

I've never tried HHA and I don't really understand the need for it either. The handbrake holds the car and disengages as soon as the accelerator pedal is touched with no roll back at all. But then I don't even bother with that in a automatic. Foot off brake, straight onto accelerator, not really rocket science. Just seems like audi making a car unnecessarily complicated.

Its seriously not complicated, if you've had it fitted before then it's a godsend. But then, like many options, it is a matter of choice but I would choose it everytime...

NicoS85 you have just answered your own question about understanding the need for HHA. With HHA activated there is no need to take "foot off brake, straight onto accelerator" as you won't have your foot on the brake!

Ah so it's something that's switched on and forgotten about . I wrongly assumed that it needed to be pressed every time on a hill which just seemed silly as the parking brake is right there... So does it automatically apply the parking brake when you come to a stop on a hill and allows you to take foot off the brake without the car rolling?

Correct, turn on and forget, when you come to a halt on the level or on a hill the HHA applies the parking brake so you can take your foot off the brake pedal (also preventing "dazzling" the car behind with high level brake lights) when you press the accelerator the car moves off.

Turn on and forget is not quite as it puts on the brakes lights because it's applying all four brakes. I actually do use the handbrake as well at nightime once someone has pulled up behind me as I believe it is common courtesy not to dazzle the driver. But that's just me...

And me.....
For the life of me I just cant understand while people in an A4 sit stationary with their foot on the brake.
Just leave it in gear, flick on the holding brake and take your foot off the foot brake...job done.
When ready to move off, just squeeze the accelerator.
Really, what could be more straight forward.

Maybe they all have hold assist? Which is even more straightforward as we just take our foot off the brake and the car holds the brake for us. No flicking on the parking brake required.

I will say if I know I'm going to be waiting a long time and especially at night I will put the parking brake on though...

Not relevant to this spec. But honestly if you are buying a manual A4 then tick HHA for 75 quid. I have done my first 5k and it has been on the whole time. No-one has yet complained about the brake lights and it is fantastic when you are stationary on an incline.

You only have to activate it and then keep your left foot on the footrest (only if you use your right foot for braking). It doesn't have to be a hill for it to be activated, it does as soon as you stop, foot on the paddle and it disengages and off you go.

I got mine from the dealer within a couple of days of ordering. Give them a nudge mate.

Well after 2 weeks of driving this beast around Canada and the USA:

Yukon XL SLT, 355Hp from a 5.3l V8, and pretty much every toy you could imagine, I've come back and got my build date - Sept 11th, making it one of the 2 most important events to happen on that date in world history...

I dont have HHA but i recently had an A6 with it.
I found it to be jerky in operation and actually preferred the standard flick the hand brake on which allows a smoother operation.

It was showing up as 22mpg over my trip (which was just over 1600 miles in total). Remember that US gallons are smaller than ours, so is about 18mpg in real money, which isn't too bad for a tank. It has a thing where it would shut off 4 of the cylinders when you're just cruising along the freeway at a constant speed which helped, but I think it was a bit eager to start them up again - any slight squeeze on the go pedal would bring it back up to V8 for a while.

It had a huge fuel tank though (about 115 litres), so even with the gas-guzzling it would still do over 700 miles to tank. Almost $100 to fill it from empty (I got it a little too close once).

Love driving huge SUVs around the States!
