RS3 PFL Vs RS3 FL

@Macintosh88 we can have a view on the FL without owning one as anyone else one here always stating their opinions on the PFL without owning one! Imho not worth it as very little has changed.

Hi @terminator x.
Of course, we can all have an opinion that it is worth or not. If I still had my RS3, I would probably not prefer to change despite improvements.
I agree it's hard to defend the cost if you already got a RS3.

£14k would be the hit for a similar replacement and I'm not doing it.
As for Brexit, think you are spot on! I'm disappointed to see my local dealer no longer fits EU GB plates as standard (Bristol). I am proud to be British and European and hope the price of Audis doesn't go up with the devalued £ . Hoping Brexit doesn't happen as it certainly doesn't seem to be in the interests of Audi owners.

I'd noticed the lack of EU GB plates too and I plan to ask for them to be fitted by the dealer.

Yep, that’s it!

When we were checking out 7 seater vehicles last year we had the 4M Q7 for a weekend, and then again on a later weekend.. really let’s you try out the practicality of it, child seats, and living with it in your normal family routine. The Volvo and BMW dealers offered the same overnight test drive of their vehicles.

You can't fault that, it will cost the dealers a lot in the long run.

I have been here for a long time without being in the discussions. But I do not understand why some already argue in advance that there is not a big difference between pre facelift and facelift. Those who have been driving facelift have noticed that it´s a better car thanks to the lighter engine and updated power distribution in Haldex.

Then if it's worth upgrading it's up to each. But to sit and defend that without even driving the car to point out you will not feel a difference. How do we know that?
Depends on how you usually drive the car, but hardly anyone who buys an RS3 and just wants to drive it around the city. You want to drive a little fast and have fun with it.

Certainly, it's just a facelift but when Audi also makes an upgrade and improvement it's great, not just aesthetically out with lamps deisgn and the grill.

I have also had an RS3 8v, would also be a bit jealous of all these upgrades since the pre facelift has not been around for so long. But as long as you think the pre facelift it's good enough for you.
Nobody was arguing till you posted this lol

I think the problem UK dealers have, unlike those in New Zealand, is the speed it is possible to get a car out of the country with just about all modes of transport being drive on drive off no questions asked!
Having said that I have managed to get week end loans on three of the last four cars I have purchased relatively easy.

When I've asked for an overnight loan it's normally a no because the cars are used by sales staff. How did you manage?

I think the problem is two fold:
1) Audis sell themselves, so the sales folk don't feel they need to try. With the increase in AWD offerings could on other marques their sense of entitlement will hopefully diminish.
2) Too many tire-kickers just wanting a raz to put on YouTube. Tends to be less of an issue when you've built a relationship with a dealer.

I will be interested to hear from PFL owners who do test drive a FL and can report back actual real world differences.
I'm not interested in a FL right now as I am not due a change for 1.5 years but I am still interested to know how the cars compare.

Supposed to have a test drive in one Saturday next. They are not sure if SB or Sedan.
Will compose a non-biased review.

I spoke to my man in Glasgow Audi on Saturday there while I was in.
I asked about the new RS3 as the new RS5 was on display and I was told that he doubts they'll have one in this year.
So good for you mate if you can get one to test drive, look forward to your thoughts on it.

Wow really?! Where are you based? I'd travel just to have a look at one.

The Dealership has confirmed the booking of a black RS3 sedan for pick up tomorrow morning. Exciting times!

Hi All

So i picked up the FL sedan yesterday morning, the black sedan i was booked in for was not returned, so the dealership gave me the Aura Blue sedan instead

Quick review of the FL and some footage i took with the GoPro via YouTube.

First impressions of this FL.

Exterior:

Excellent contrast with the Aura blue and Matt aluminium styling pack, looks astonishing in person. Pictures really don't do the FL any justice.. hands down this is the best colour to get. The front has a nice sleek design, very aggressive look. The dynamic tail lights and the rear diffuser with bigger exhaust tips looks the Business however, the tacky reflectors on the bumper need to go.

The real let down for me are the blade wheels, such an average design. I would not think twice to go for the rotor wheel package to complete the aggressive look.

Interior:

The steering wheel has alcantara on the sides as oppose to the PFL with it being on the top and bottom. Love the feel of alcantara but i do think with it being on the sides it'l dirty easily and wear out overtime.

The virtual cockpit- didn't play around with it too much, the Nav and digital speedo are very impressive, it sure does have the "cool" factor.

Everything else is the same as the PFL in terms of seats, floor mats, mmi screen size etc.

Performance:

Power wise, yes there is a noticeable difference, it felt quicker of the mark and it kept my body planted to the seat right through until the redline. Another noticeable positive is the shifts are smoother in sports/manual mode, there is a pleasant transition through the gears slightly quicker and less clunky then my PFL. However, there is that dreadful delay when downshifting.

I didn't push the car as hard as I'd like around the bends being that i was on a public road and the surface was wet. I can't confirm whether it performs better handling wise. Unless you drove the car like you stole it i doubt you would notice a major difference on the street, It felt more or less the same as my PFL.

I'd love to see a comparison video of both cars on a track.

Suspension wise, nice and tight, suspension is a little soft in Dynamic, a touch more pleasant drive but then again i have those average H&R lowering springs installed on PFL.

The let down was the exhaust sound, it does lack the high pitched pops and bangs my PFL makes, very disappointing:(. I even questioned the dealer twice whether or not it had a sports exhaust! He did say a lot of people commented on how much more tame the FL exhaust is. -refer to videos for sound

Conclusion:

Will i be trading in my PFL with $30k nzd on top for a new FL? Not just yet. I can not justify spending that kind of money right now for similar performance and a few cosmetic changes. I wasn't left thinking wow what an amazing upgrade, it was all to familiar from the older rs3. Perhaps i would think differently if i was to take the car around a racetrack on a fine day?

The only disappointment was the exhaust sound.

Good review. Undoubtedly it will be a better all round car. Unfortunately, it's a shame they've took away some of the rawness of the PFL. It gives it character.

Steering wheel change is strange too. The alcantara on mine (top and bottom) is already smooth after 30k miles so imho the PFL will do that much quicker.

Extremely disappointed with the exhaust sound, like you wouldn't believe.. Who the hell signed off on that at Audi :'(

Looks like I will be getting the secondary cat deletes on the first week. My S3 was the same, had a job to hear the pops before the centre silencer delete inside the car.. afterwards, they are loud but not RS3 loud.

I hope that somebody who knows what they are doing gets their hands on one, so we can find out what in the exhaust has silenced the pops. Unless if they have held back on the map on them? If there is anything in the exhaust, it's coming out!!

That really is disappointing, surely it has to be something to do with the exhaust as the videos of the AUTOMANN TTRS sound amazing with the loud pops and bangs... Unless the maps are different which I very much doubt because the performance figures are very similar... Only time will tell hopefully a simple mod...

Just bring it to a tuner and those pops and bangs will be back for sure..

I agree the disappointment that doesn´t bang as PFL.
I Think Youtube Daniel Karjadi describe it very well about the exhaust sound and what he think about the acoustics sound in the cabin.

I think the sound is still good, just less bangs. And I can live with that :grimacing:
I like the saloon, we all different taste what is more beautiful. So it's good then that the RS3 is available in sportback and saloon :grinning:

Isn't the pop and bangs to do with fuel being injected into the exhaust where it explodes due to the heat creating the sound.... looks like Audi has stemmed this flow of fuel some how.

Would have to look at schematics or technical information on the PFL exhaust and see what difference is to the FL version.

He has an Audi Sport shirt on, if he's representing Audi he can't go on about understeer :p

I'm also very jealous of his shirt.. :( haha

I think Audi must have had a wuzz' day out at Lime Rock - not only did Hans Stuck drive on the same place pretty well for all of his tirade, the lead-follow behind an R8 only managed to briefly touch 100mph! And still the driver had to wear full race regalia with the average speed about 50..! I was not counting, but I think the RS3 hit third gear once with the rest in second - I am surprised Audi even allowed him to switch on dynamic mode!

One of the comments above I find odd.

Comments about the PFL gearbox being lumpy & not smooth ?

I have never noticed this at all & the car fires through the changes without any lunging or lurching at all - up & down perefctly smooth.

Totally agree on the steering wheel.
The alcantara looks nice but I fear Audi have not used the best grade as mine is also wearing / shining and I make a point of touching it as little as possible. On the sides it will wear in no time, unless they have upped the quality of the alcantara, which I doubt.
I love the look of the alcatara, just not its wear rate.

I prefer the FL steering wheel, I must admit. I find having the alcantara on the top and bottom for the PFL quite odd!

I'm the opposite @D0C the alcantara will wear really quickly on the FL.

When mines is in getting cleaned the guy uses a damp leather cleaning cloth which takes the dirt out of it and brushes the alcantara up on it again, still looks good.
Cars in Audi with gear box out of it due to a suspected crank shaft oil seal leak. :scared2:

Just did a similar review on another thread. Agree with most of what you said, including the sound. Not sure why Audi have toned it down...perhaps emissions and to make it more neighbour friendly.

Here there isn't any even around to see never-mind drive, never-mind keep for the weekend, had to order sight unseen to even get a production slot. perhaps I could have waited until late 18 and taken my chances, but....
