Got my car booked in for MRC stage 2 next week and looking at how to insure it.

Moneysupermarket etc only have an option to tick for "engine remapping" and nothing relating to the pulley upgrade. The only option is "other" which, when selected, doubles the premium.

What have you guys done with regards to your insurance and the new pulley?

You need to speak to a specialist broker. Most places really don't like insuring you with any gains over 100bhp. Try Sky, Chris Knott, Greenlight, Flux
Seems to vary on who will cover what.
It was definitely a challenge finding anyone who was willing to cover it! A couple said that they stipulated brake upgrades too.

AIB insurance through Adrian Flux for Stage 2 upgrade. All I told them
was I was going Stage 2 and the expected hp increase along with pulley upgrade and other bits. Currently paying £550 including 10 years NCD (protected), courtesy car, and EU cover for the whole year.

Worth being aware that a lot of places won't cover you at all unless you have some history with performance cars. I was asked for car history over the last few years by a few. A plan were great - but wouldn't cover me as I couldn't show enough recent history in quick stuff.

AIB didn't ask any of the above questions. Both my cars; B7 A4 and B8.5 S4 are insured through them and I am paying £1,050 for both. My wife had a claim (no fault) just before the renewal as well and has 4 years NCD (protected) including courtesy car and EU travel. I know it is a bit high but better than £1,550+ that only Admiral were offering and that too for only Stage 1. There were two more insurers who quoted £1,750 and £2k plus just for S4 but only 50hp increase in power.

Sky insurance have just come back at £485 fully comp including stage 2 mods and a potential brake upgrade in the future. Really happy with that.
Now just need to see how much my current insurers are going to charge me to get out my policy with them :worried:

Hmm. Both @Tashfeen and @forty3 seem to have got better premiums than those of us who went through A-Plan. Care to share what excess you guys have on your policies?

£350 excess but might be my mileage driving down the price as only have 4000 a year.

I'm 35 with 11 years no claims and a clean license

Actually had a better price from Adrian Flux - £465

I believe it is £350 excess and £100 for windscreen replacement with 10,000 miles / year however, I will have to check my paperwork re: excess etc and report back once I get home.

Greenlight are worth giving a call. They quoted me very happy. Although i haven't had it mapped yet. I know a few others insured by them that were given a BHP limit, any mods they done provided they stayed under that limit they just had to add on to their policy via a online form, no admin fees or additional premium fees.

Why not see if you can keep it in-house.

We have an insurance forum, with four different brokers and/or insurers as sponsors.

@Dippy, it is a fully comprehensive policy with an excess of £300.

Finally sorted with Sky. £450 fully comp with £350 excess, £80 windscreen excess, protected NCD and an annual mileage of 8000.

Stage 2 mods declared and the option to add brake upgrades for no extra cost.

Pretty happy with that although it is nearly £200 more than my previous insurance for a standard car with AXA.

@forty3 I think that's a decent price. My renewal last year was £286 but this year I've had an indicative quote of £381 for a standard car.

Hi, have you tried us for insurance for this kind of modification yet? If you wanted to drop me a PM I'd be happy to arrange a quotation for you.

Kind Regards
Dan

I have £350 XS but my premium is higher. Maybe A-Plan weren't getting me the best deal I thought they were. Looks like I need to spend some time getting quotes next year (and I am minded to try Saga since I'm an old(er) person).

I have got old, and it seems like Saga might just be grabbing lots of money from old/older folk, as it seems Admiral are quoted as doing - then year I really must try harder, and that will probably mean leaving Admiral - I only moved to them in May 2000 as it was said that they could insure a car, being picked up new in mainland Europe from the start of the journey back to UK, that fact/fantasy has been disproved!

Bit of a revival of this thread but I was bored on a nightshift and made an impulse purchase of some coilovers.

I called Sky this morning to see how much they'd charge to change my policy to include the new suspension and was amazed to find that they would insure the modification for free. They even waived the usual £25 admin fee!

Makes a very nice change to not have to bend over as a result of wanting to make a change to an insurance policy.

I hate you all! This year is the first year I've paid less than £1,000. Prior to that I was paying around £1,500-£2,000.

Peugeot 508 was around £1,850. Peugeot 107 in my first year driving was £1,600.
Being young is great... :blownose:

Cheap insurance is about the only thing that's good about getting older.

Cheap premiums = not being able to sleep all night without going for a pee.

I have bad news for you - it gets worse - I'm lucky if I only have to get up once :(
