Temporary hold on new Audi S4 Orders!?

I don't know if you'll actually see anything as we don't really know about the physical changes. As far as I understand these new starter/generators are called Integrated Starter Generators, or ISG's. They are described as large electric motors that act as the starter motor and alternator but can also assist the engine by sending torque through the drive belt to the engine’s crankshaft. The system is also fitted with a small lithium ion battery.
But start/stop engines do already have these as far as I understand....

The lithium battery is meant to be in the back along with the convertor to step down to 12v dc. I don't see how this can increase the fuel consumption and co2 output, Maybe it not working efficiently and causing a drag on the engine possibly?

I'm not sure but I think you are referring to the 48v system in the A8 that the article referred to, I haven't heard that the A4 are about to get this. Maybe I didn't make that clear enough..

Checked my tracker this morning and states my build 'will' start on 21st August, I'm sure before today it said 'expected' build will be 21st August?

Hopefully a positive sign!

Fingers crossed for you but it is not helped by the media releasing reports and Audi not, or, as the case maybe, they do not have too because there is no case to answer. It is all very confusing...

It said before expected to start.
Thanks for confirming Brandon, I thought I was right in the change to 'will'.

Fingers crossed for us both mate and we can celebrate our new motors arriving in September hopefully.

Order date was 15th June, originally build date expected 4th September which seemed a long time to get started, thankfully brought forward.

End of September seems doable but you never know with the shipping etc!

I have the same dates. I just got this message from my dealer:

"The vehicle takes about a week to be built. It can take up to 2 weeks to be transported to the port. Once at the Port, vehicles can wait up to 14 days to be loaded onto a boat for the UK. If the ship arrives during the working week, vehicles take on average 24 hours to be unloaded. Your car can then wait for up to one week to be assigned to a transporter for delivery to the Audi Centre. Once the vehicle is on the transporter the timescale for delivery to the Audi Centre is three to five working days."

So End of September... 1st week of October....

From what I have been reading on Autocar website it looks like Audi has introduced it this year. The 4 cylinder system gets the 12v with IGS system.

That's even less clear as it makes no mention of the engines, or the A4, and is dated nearly two years ago. Besides we already have the coasting and engine cut out modes on all A4's too right from the start of production. What we really need is some concrete evidence that Audi have actually suspended production as the media is claiming. The cars still appear to be able to be ordered from the dealships and from internet brokers.

trying to find out, Spoke to Audi Uk via chat, and was pointed to emission team, Emailed my local dealer as well.

Well spoken to Audi Uk (business as usual department after emission's team) It appears that there is a problem wanted the VIN number, but cant confirm at the moment. It is the TFSI engines with MHEV fitted. I've been advised to speak to the local dealer.

To my eyes it just gets weirder as we have had the MHEV ability since the B9 first came out, unless they've changed the unit of course...

Update; i spoke to my local dealer which was unaware of the situation but was fully aware of the S4 /S5 issue. Showed them the article from carbuyer and they rung Audi UK sales department. They confirmed that the factory has been contact with them regarding the 2.0 tfsi problem and that more will be announced towards end of the month. They don't know whether it will affect handover of the car's till the problem been fixed or let the customer have the car but recall for software fix. The dealers are kept in the dark with this and Audi UK are keeping this close to their chest for now.

Nice one and well done, hopefully now Audi will clarify at the end of the month so we'll all sit tight until then. However my interpretation is that having to have a software 'fix' doesn't quite fit with what the media are stating. But we'll see...

Update from my local dealer - They have told me that my car (S4) is not on there list of "issue" cars and will proceed as planned.

Pushed them to explain more but didn't get anything apart from your car will be delivered on time.

So that just add's confusion to the whole thing.

That is confusing, When I asked them this afternoon the dealer said that Audi Uk don't even have a list of cars that is affected and was waiting for the factory to publish the information. All they was told and now dealer is aware is that there is a issue with TFSI 2.0 & 3.0 and is awaiting more information. Different stories coming from each dealer :disrelieved:

When I rung Audi UK they wanted the VIN number of the vehicle then said we don't have a list of vehicles yet but there is a issue and as mine is not registered yet so we cant help speak to your dealer! That what I did this afternoon.

So... My dealer mentioned they had a guy in from Audi UK, which his word's was "rare". I spoke with them both over speaker phone and he checked his system and I was then told my car is not on "the list" of suspect car and the car will be delivered.

I'm not convinced as it doesn't really add up... I'll be more than angry if find out later that was a pile of s***.

Baron02 what's the tracker currently saying about your car?

Mine is in the country but not due to have it until sept 1st. Hence why I'm trying to establish if it will affect handover etc and is mine affected. What I don't want to do is take delivery of it then find out that I got to take it back for a software fix etc or the tax band get altered because of their c**k up! or find out it is affected then have to wait x amount of months for them re-certify the emissions etc before they release it.

The A6 i had was affect over the software cheat on emissions, don't want to fall down that road again..

If you read the article it says that a software update meant the cars need to have their co2 and mpg retested. As your car was built before this update I very much doubt there are any cause for concern..

Not sure if it is related as the suspension was about the changes brought about with the petrol engine co2 and mpg. This is a diesel upgrade to take them beyond the existing requirements, thus it might be for older vehicles as well?

The plot thickens,

No it doesn't, that applies to diesels (and an unspecified range of models / ages of diesels at that) whereas the issue being discussed in this thread relates to petrol engines only.

There are more details on this diesel software 'fix' now available so I will start a new thread on it...

I spoke to Audi UK Customer service team today who it appears have no information. They directed me to the sales support who wouldn't confirm if my build was affected (due to start 24/7) and suggested I speak to my ordering dealer who may have more info. It seems like no one will commit to anything in Audi.
I have emailed the dealer tonight - lets see what there take is this time (last week they said hadn't even seen the articles in the press!)

I emailed Audi Uk on Friday after I emailed International Audi support in Germany who advised me to speak to Audi UK while they investigate, had nothing yet from them both yet, they did say it may take some time, Mine is here with the dealer, just would like some re-assurance from them.

I ordered a new S4 on Saturday. Phoned the dealer today to enquire about the expected delivery date and they said they had been informed just today of a temporary hold on building s4's and certain other models so they could retest the official mpg ratings.

Read into that what you will. Dealer was however confident for build date first week of Sept and delivery by end October (can't wait!)

Gonna be interesting .l what happens if we take delivery and then they downgrade the fuel economy and increase CO2 ? My s4 is at the docs in uk.,.. so I'm not sure where all this leaves me,,.,

Received an email from the dealer this morning, at present they have had no communication from Audi about the delay but are aware of the reports about the delay in the press.

They maintain the information they have is my car is programmed to be built this week so they have said to wait until Monday 31st and see the status when it is officially past build week.

Have S4 on the way from factory due to arrive EOF August. Dealer quizzed when story first broke and subsequently, asserted they had heard nothing on all occasion’s last communication over a week ago and no comment since then which is pretty poor.

Will be interesting to know if re homologating the vehicle pushes it into a different CO2/tax band and or increases consumption before accepting it.

My dealer is silent on it .. gonna watch closely. If there is extra tax , I'd expect Audi to make it cost neutral for me .... if they de-rate the economy significantly , not sure what to do : it was one of the factors of me choosing the s4 over equivalents....

I can't believe Audi would want the PR disaster of forcing people to carry on with orders if the spec of the car has changed. If the issue is a minor legal technicality I imagine most customers won't be too worried. For those that no longer want the car I'd be amazed if Audi don't do something: be it a replacement car (different car), discount or whatever else.

This applies equally to those of us just taken delivery of S4/S5 as clearly what we've got doesn't do what it says on the tin then what has been supplied is non-compliant with the previous fuel and performance specs.? Are we entitled to a replacement car as Will says, or some sort of compensation (not that I endorse this culture)?

I ordered an S4 Avant in the first week of July and like others here now have my date showing as 'will' commence build 21st Aug (BW 34), so it appears there are no delays cited for those in the same situation.

Today I had confirmation from the dealer that there will be a 2 week halt in production and those from BW 36 will have tests carried out. The change being made in those 2 weeks of 'down time' has not been officially confirmed and much like speculation on here and in the media could be "engine mapping" or just "new wheels". I guess it's likely it could be both...?

The advice he gave me was to keep the order in, see what happens come BW36 when we find out what the new spec / changes are, and make a decision if I want to re-order a 'new' one and wait for that instead. Which seems entirely fair i guess.

Whether the 'NEW' S4 will have less lag, more lag, better/worse fuel consumption, or just an option of 20" wheels remains to be seen...

So things get stranger - my car was due to commence build this week (wk 30) - it has sat as unconfirmed build week all week when speaking to the Dealer and Audi UK. However a log on the tracker tonight to see if they have changed the date to delayed etc shows it has been built and now in transit!!!

The S4 I cancelled was built on July 3rd and delivered to the dealer last week as dealer stock. From what I can gather on here the press are aware of the emission issues but Audi dealers and Audi UK aren't? So If i'd taken delivery of my car it would, after the summer shut down, be an out of date model even though it was a 2017MY? Think I'd be pretty upset having just spent £50k to find out a few weeks later if i'd have waited a few weeks it potentially wouldn't suffer from the lag issues which the new one may or may not have. Don't think Audi are handling this very well at all and my poor dealer s now suck with an old model car...

I would agree that Audi are not handling this very well at all and at this rate will lose a lot more customers. Assuming they bother to read the forums suggest Audi's PR department issue a definitive statement ASAP.
Ad72 how are you finding the CLA 45?

An official statement would be good, especially to put potential and prospective buyers minds at rest bearing in mind the VW issues.
I haven't got the CLA yet, due to collect it in October.

Response from Audi Uk.
Hi, James. This information relates to the situation in the German market - we don’t yet know the implications for UK models, however, it would only affect new orders. Your vehicle would not be impacted as it is already built. We hope you enjoy your new A4.
