2018 S3 Van ordered

Hi All

First post here on the forum and first Audi for me, coming from a 2012 BMW 120d M Sport. I'm looking forward to spend a lot of time on this forum

First you might wonder why I have written "van" in the headline. It's because I have ordered what in Denmark is described as a Van which means you get rid of the backseats which changes the registration tax from 150% to "only" 50%. Because of the ridiculously high car prices here I saved £48.000 by choosing a Van model instead of a normal 5 seat hatchback.

The final price for the car is around £60.000 and that is with a £11.000 discount (You don't move to Denmark because of the car prices!).

The basic car is without any extras and Audi Denmark doesn't provide any equipment packages for such car so I had to check every single box.

I will pick up the car 02-10-2017 and the waiting time is killing me!

Yep! However I was lucky to get a very good price through my bank so I only pay £850 a year. That price will be at least doubled if you don't have a special agreement as I have. But it may be due to the fact that I'm only 27 and only have 4 years of experience with own car.

Around £35.000 a year before taxes. But as a civil engineer I earn a bit more than that - without going into details Life is too short for boring cars, even in Denmark.

It's a small world - I have lived the first 23 years of my life in Herning.

I hope it wasn't just a Carlsberg then. A normal Pilsner will set you back 40kr (£5) at a non-fancy bar

That sounds like normal beer prices where I live, Cheltenham is extortionate these days.

Cheltenham is very nice though. My Grandfather lives there, you usually find a pint for £3 in my area, (preston/chorley) or £3.50 if you go to the right place!

There is a Belgian guy (on another forum) who turned his 2016 S6 Avant into a van (removed rear seats, covered over windows etc.) dropped his tax band like 70%

Anything is doable when you put your mind to it

I've never been to Denmark, but I imagine it to be an extremely nice place to visit.

But, due to the car policies, I'd have to emigrate if was resident there mate lol

Aw that's cool! It was in a burger place with food?? We spent a little time in The Fox And Hound (Scottish but not Scottish theme bar). That was expensive at the time but nice.

I loved it there, couldn't get my head round how flat it was around that area!

Ha ha, it's even the name, sounds more suited to the English really. Must say if we had a Danish theme bar in Glasgow or Edinburgh we'd probably get it very very wrong. It does have a lot of whiskies though! Needs more tartan, scotty dogs, jimmy hats, deer heads and extremely drunken people!

Yep, no snowboarding there for you guys... although you can drive to Sweden to do that!

your car sounds interesting....there's a few performance modders on here who follow your lead but don't get any tax breaks I'm sure lol....at least it will make your car quicker...and you'd best tell your drunk mates about it before they jump in the back on the way back from the pub

We used to have a tax break on "vans" in England. You'd get people blacking out the windows. I don't think you had to take out the seats though.

You can still get a vat saving I think for a work vehicle, but you have to have signage on the outside.

The procedure is to remove the seats, remove seat belts, glue the rear windows and then mount a safety plate behind the front seat (normally acrylic glass ). The bottom of the boot will be build up on a steel frame to be completely flat.

The windows don't have to be tinted but since I'm going to have two big dogs (Ridgebacks) in the boot it's nicer for them to have it in the summer plus I think it suits the car.

What stops me from sneaking in some seats afterwards is the consequences of getting caught. In my case it would be to pay the £48.000 registration tax I didn't paid in the first place plus a fine of around £10.000. You don't mess with the tax system in Denmark

Its actually very widespread. You often see big cars such as Audi SQ5, Porsche Cayenne and BMW X5 as vans.

You can distinguish the cars by their license plate.

Top: Normal license plate
Middle: Work license plate
Bottom: Van license plate

Wow! I thought you just removed the seats, but it's actually is made into a van.
Learned something new there.
You'll hear the exhaust note better (there's a guy at work here in a 135i who drive with his back seats folded down just for that reason!).

Yep, it's actually not a bad thing to get a van since you have a very usable and spacey boot - and more real sound.

The first thing I'll do is to code out the fake sound and then get a BCS resonator delete. I think the sound will be amazing!
