TMU's Glacier White B8.5 S4 - MRC Stage 2

What I have noticed on my way back from MRC was that the oil temp reaches 102* as soon as I thrash it or perhaps thrash for a little longer and once it reaches 104* it kind of feels slow. Now what I am not sure is how reliable this temp measure is (activated via VCDS). Also unsure about what should be the 'normal' running temp; 100*??

The B8 S4 is fine with those oil temps,I see 100-112 all the time.
It has been said that the B8 S4 is designed to run a touch hotter to help reduce carbon build up

Agreed. Doug said exactly the same. B8.5s appear to run slightly hotter than B8s.

I thought 109* was ****** hot, seems like I could still thrash a bit more. It does reach 104* pretty quickly though. Not sure how quick in comparison to B8.

You have it installed @arad85? What the temp difference like
Yup. I've only ever looked twice - it isn't the most easily seen variable unless you are logging which I tend not to do ;). When I have seen it, it has been after a short pull and IAT is +7 deg over ambient at 5.5k rpm and 70-80 mph.

Interesting. I have dropped a line to Merc and will call Al Brown tomorrow. Let's see what we can do about it. Someone needs to take away my bank cards

I wouldn't mind getting hold of 1 of these merc racing items. Only thing that bothers me is that it's just the charge cooler with no fitting kit or instructions!

I agree and if I was to go with the prices listed on their website ($925) and then add the extra bit and imports, it pretty much comes down to the same price. Having said that, I haven't heard from them yet so it might be that it is cheaper than what it suggests on their website (thread suggests so). I will get quotes tomorrow from couple of other suppliers as well. Let's see what we come up with.

Ah, I miss my horse that I lost to this warm weather already!!!

And the final piece of the jigsaw went in just now. 20 mins is all it took and compliments the GT tips perfectly.

Thanks for liking mate. I have made a few vids but the sound quality on my iPhone is pathetic. I will see if I can upload.

Don't forget if you personally import a cooler from the US there it is very likely that you will have to pay a customs charge.

@xpoweruk I know you have experience with charge coolers. What do you think about APR's latest unit which includes pipes at the top to bleed air - a useful design or a gimmic?

Would be interested to hear XP's thoughts on this as he has been involved in discussions with the guys over at Audizine about his custom setup about as what @arad85 suggest from the limited logging that he did - IAT +7 degree over ambient isn't bad. What I don't know is how good it is.

And the reason I ask is that whilst I am doing the research and reading about different options available and let's say I decide to go for APR route than I believe the £1.2k (including installation) investment in their cooler won't be a bad deal.

IMO the new APR cooler is no better than any other as long as they are bled properly

If ya IAT is 7 over ambient when pushing on I think ya may be reading the pre charger IAT sensor

Cheers XP. If I was to do logging via Carista App rather than VCDS how much of a difference in the readings it is going to be. I know VCDS is recommended or perhaps more 'real-time' than Carista but can I do that to start with. And can I get/create similar logs like say for example you have?

Example of IAT's on a 21*C ambient day.
My IAT's are low compared to most too

@xpoweruk, my apologies but I will start here with some basic questions first.

What I now understand is that the oil temps on the car are in *F and not *C. Stupid of me to have not activated it in first place.

So now, my average temps without thrashing the car and without any chargercooler are 102-106*F, i.e. 37*C, which on a 21*C ambient day is +16. My question here is; is this the correct correlation or do I actually need to monitor IATs to give me any comparison. There also doesn't seem to be any optimal oil and IAT temps out there. I have read on Audizine and it appears that others are running with quite high oil temps but still getting the required power and therefore it appears as if there isn't any correlation at all. However, I'd be interested to see your reply to this.

And apologies if it sounds too 'novice-ish'

No direct correlation between oil temps & IAT's .You'll need to monitor IAT's directly to see what is happening.
Oil temps are in C so the 100*C oil temps are perfectly normal.

I'm not sure if Carista does logging either ?

OBD Fusion seems popular for IOS users for live data (not sure if it does logs or not )

So I ran diagnostics using Carista and it came up with the below error:

ABS
Part #: 8K0907379CP
Coding: 295DCC01 (hex)
Component: ESP8 quattro
Fault codes:
00493 ESP-Sensor Unit (G419).

Do you guys know if it could be related to activating ADS (which is what I did a month ago) or something completely different. There is no fault showing on the DIS.

I have looked at Ross-Tech website for the fault code and the error options are:

1- Implausible Signals or
2- Defective or
3- No Signal/Communication

The diagnostics doesn't tel any of that. Would my assumption if it is 'unable to communicate' a valid one?

Thanks.

Cleared the error before leaving home and ran it again after reaching work (loooong drive if 1.2 miles ) but it didn't show anything. Will run it again in the evening.
It did however display the error on the DIS when I ran the diagnostics in the morning.
Cheers once again XP.

Another interesting thing I found out last night about myself was what a pussy driver I have been since I bought the car last year. Embarrassing!

The blue Porsche, hilarious wasn't it . Might as well become one. I have 196 left but that was on stock. Remap removes the limiter .
