Hello boys and girls.

I have been having a slight misfire on start up lately, it has got progressively worse. I have checked the spark plugs and they look fine (I'll replace anyway) I was just wondering what coil packs any of you have upgraded to? As I understand it these can suffer with the coils failing?

Thanks in advanced.

Ollie

Check with your local dealer to see if your car is covered by the VAG coil pack replacement campaign, if it is they'll replace them for free.

Thanks Paul I'll give them a call :)

I suppose my question should be if they're a common issue is there an upgrade?

Check VCDS for fault codes. If the car is just misfiring on start up could be due to a lot of different issues . What is the part number of the coil packs on the engine. Some codes are well renowned for failing, newer codes are very reliable.

Red R8 coil packs are popular, whether they're an upgrade is open to debate. Look nice though.

Agree with Paul.

Not 100% proven that there is a performance upgrade but a mate has sweared blind there is.

I got the R8 coils and instantly felt a smoother curve through the higher rev range but to be fair the coils I removed were ancient.

If you go for the R8/2.0TFSI coil upgrade you need the adapter plates as they're a bit longer (hence the claimed extra punch) and the plates helps locate them sturdily
