MyAudi.com Map Update

Might be wrong but just the SD Card maps are around £150-£200. The £400-£500 figure is usually maps plus the activation of the cars Sat Nav system if it didnt come with sat nav activated from factory.
New cards / updates need activating also.

Ok, when i got quotes from Audi i aways got the standard £200 for maps - £250 for activating the Sat nav system. The activation is always for activating the Sat Nav as i dont have it activated/enabled on my car. This is for PFL but could be different with FL as Sat Nav is standard right?

Every SD card needs activating (software version management / VIN coding) no matter if you are activating navigation for the first time or performing and update. There is a price for the card, a price for the licence pack, then an authorised activator / 3rd party will add a labour charge for the activation.

Of course, i understand this. I find it strange that someone with Sat Nav enabled who just wants a new SD Card will pay the same price as me who needs to buy the SD Card and also have my Sat Nav system enabled.

Nav is already enabled when you buy the car. What you are paying for is the activation of the SD card, hence why you have to pay again when / if you get a new one. Its a stupid system really as with VW you just download your update and copy it to your original SD card and bam... updated maps.

My system says not enabled. It is PFL though so maybe different. Iv always been told i need to enable it at £250 ( because PFL's come with Sat Nav Prep but if option isnt ticked when bought new then it isnt enabled) and i can even at a later date buy the maps and activate them at £200.

It is a stupid system. Had a Scirocco a few yrs ago. So simple to update.

Just fired an email over to my support (VW Group UK) for both FL and PFL clarification. Will update when they reply.

I suppose it's just another way for Audi to make more money.

Off topic but do you know if there's an update to the MMI software? Mine is 0679 and I see on your before and after pictures that your MMI version is 0875.

You would need to contact a dealer in order to find out if there is an update for your unit. Firmware updates are not included via the mp updates on our cars as they are with MMI3G / 3GP units.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Well I got the sound settings resetting every 3/4 days and no subwoofer control problem that was fixed in the 0875 software version. I have got an appointment with my local Audi dealer for it but its over a month away.

Had a reply which has left me a little bit confused but in short it SEEMS that if you already have SD Card based navigation then all you need for an update is to buy the latest Navigation Data SD Card, however it looks like Audi have just reworked their SD Card offerings and now a complete "Navigation Data and Activation Pack" is actually cheaper then if you buy Navigation Data on its own lol

I still cannot get a 100% straight answer out of VW Group UK but if the above is correct then the pricing is actually much less then previous discussed on this forum,

Yep correct, but don't forget you can't just buy an SD Card and put it in. It still needs activating. The problem is that all cars have Sa Nav but not all cars have it activated. Like mine for example, my A3 ( & all A3 PFLs) has Sat Nav prep but not enabled as the option wasnt ticked. So I need that enabled before I can buy maps and then get the maps linked/activated/synced to the car. If a car Has Sat Nav enabled and the owner buys a new map SD Card then the maps will still have to be activated/linked to the car. i have checked this process via various dealers in the past few days including the process for my car or one with the Sat Nav activated/enabled.

PS: just to be clear this is the procedure for a PFL SD Card map system without Connect etc...

Yes, but following on from what I posted above the activation aspect of SD based maps is now almost a moot point due to the pricing being restructured. There is basically only one SD Nav package available now, all be it with different data versions, but:

Previously:
  • No NAV = Need SD Card and Activation pack + activation via Audi / 3rd party = approx £450+
  • With NAV (update) = SD Card version 20xx = approx £300 to £350'ish
Now:
  • No Nav and With Nav = New version SD Card and Activation Pack = Lower price due to new "combined" option only.
Am awaiting final pricing but all indications are that I can beat the old £450'ish price with the new pack by between 35% to 40%.... and thats activated! :)

There should be a "love" button instead of like! Will defo be getting this done by you if you can do the whole enabling my Nav and activating maps.

Just one question, when you say previously & now, do you mean PFL systems vs FL system? I don't know if the system has changed that's all.

When trying to update the maps online, it says I already have the latest version installed but it says 2017 version. Is the new one 2017/2018 version?

lol :)

What I mean is that previously Audi had some stupid way of dealing with Navigation activation, SD card activation and SD card data updates... there were loads of part numbers and options and mixed information on pricing and what was needed. Now it seems that they have just a single navigation pack, all be it with different "data" years, so 2014, 2015 etc etc. This new pack is used for both Nav prep and Nav data updates and the price seems to have come way down as a result. So now map data updates or even navigation activation is the same money.

Am awaiting final confirmation.

Awesome! Will be good to know. The prices seem all over the place when I have asked. Iv got quotes of £550 from Audi Taunton, £450 from Audi Leicester, £400 from Audi retrofits, €700 from Audi Bologna and Audi in Lisbon said that the system can't be activated & what you have is what you get! it seems to be all over the place! I can see how people get confused! But I guess these quotes are using the old structure...

Mine said the same but once updated read as 2017/2018, screenshots above.
