Software update bricking s5 coupe

sparky - you have to be considering rejection right? Appreciate the dealer has to be given the chance to resolve the issue but seems they've had ample opportunity thus far?

Honestly, yes I have been considering it

The window alignment issue happens on a rare occasion where you will try to close the door and it won't shut as the glass gets caught against the seal the only solution is to put the window down and then shut the door then press and hold the lock button to return the window to a shut position, it can also be identified when you're in the car and you try to put the window down where it will go down a little and roll back up itself before you have to press it again to make it go down.

Regarding the update Audi got back to me last night and Audi Germany have provided a new software update to fix this problem (apparently) and was applied last night along with a testing plan so I should hear back this morning.

Sparky, sorry to hear about all your issues.

I have exactly the same issue on my 3 week old A5. It's been doing this occasionally for at least a week, but at first I didn't realise exactly what the problem was. The glass hits the chrome surround at the top of the door, or sometimes the door closes and I only notice when I hear a wind noise at my ear. I hope that I haven't damaged anything as the door can now close with the glass on the outside!

Taking mine into Aberdeen dealer on Thursday so very interested to see whether yours is sorted.

To be fair this is visit number 4 for my car and it's only done 1880 miles and they have tried everything they can think of. Glasgow Audi now have it 2 days to try and sort it, if it doesn't sort it I'm afraid the car is going back

Mine's done 1850 miles and its the 3rd visit to dealer, but 1st for the door. Mine also booked in for 2 days from Thursday. I hope they sort it soon as I couldn't live with this problem. I will look for your reply before I take mine in.

I had issues with non-essential driver assistance functions shutting down as a result of Transporter mode errors from before I received the car (easily fixed and so far not reappeared), and one ongoing issue where Audi Connect frequently loses connectivity and usually a screen comes up asking if I want to insert a new SIM (ongoing issue reported to Audi Germany because fault reproduced on a demonstrator so not specific to my car...).

Just about to collect mine. Dealer tells me they found a fix from Audi for the window not dropping issue, but wasn't applicable to my chassis. They checked with Audi and confirmed that this could be applied to my car. Sounded very low tech - greasing something on/near the regulator and adding a cable tie - but if it works then all's good...

Got mine back on Friday. Was OK over weekend then last night, twice, the drivers windows didn't drop when opening door. Will have to go back to dealer. Have pictures and video because it never does it in the dealer. Sparky how is yours?

Well so far so good on the drivers window but like last time its temperamental so it could happen today for all I know also it's going back in next week as in fixing the window they managed to brick mmi so now it can't detect the internal SIM card

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That worries me too - every time it's in there more chance of scratches or new problems.

Does it ever see the internal SIM? I originally thought it was a bad connection but found out its an eSIM so no physical card, all done in software.
Do you get the 'Data service not available, Please insert a SIM card Accept / Cancel' message?
I get this all time, but does connect between times - dealer says they have seen several cars getting this now so not specific to my car - will be a software fix from Audi.

I get the SIM issue now and again in my A5 so must be the software that's glitchy.

Sounds like a bad batch has made its way to Scotland.......Glasgow...Aberdeen.........hopefully none fell of the transporter and are due to hit Northern Ireland.......

Tbh I'm waiting for Audi to come out with the you will just have to live with it because you got a pillarless window car line, and on that day the s5 will be getting returned.

Had a few more cases of window not dropping over last few days. Booked it back into dealer on 15th/16th. They are going to pre-order some parts like window regulator, but not convinced Audi have a fix. Seems to still be investigative work.

I feel for you! Kinda ruins the sparkle of a new car!

So, my A5 Conv (S-Line, not an S5 unfortunately!) is arranged for collection tomorrow - it's brand new from stock.. I'm worried about this!! Any immediate signs of issues I need to be on the watch for?

Does mine have the seat belt presenters? What was the issue with those, they just didn't extend?

So far it seems common issues are:

* Seat belt presenters - not sure of the issue? / not sure if applies to non-S5 models
* Built in SIM intermittently disconnecting - software issue that there is a fix for
* Window not dropping when door is opened - hardware (regulator) issue that there is not a definite fix for

Anything else?

I'm a bit worried now! The dealer confirmed it's the new-shape 2017 model year, but not a 2018, whatever that means! EEK!

Convertible has the presenters in it too. One thing that's annoying with the coupe and maybe the convertable is when you open the boot when there is water on it it drops onto the window then projects itself over the rubber seal and into the boot.

Only other thing I've noticed is sometimes the auto box will decide there are many gears but none will be chosen for about 5-10 seconds and on your instrument panel it will say d/s blank or 0

Oh my :(

Beginning to think I may have made a mistake! About what mileage did your window issue manifest itself at?

11 miles so from the dealer to the house

Sounds like you've had a rough ride!!! I live in Manchester, equidistant from an inchcape-group dealer (Stockport Audi) and a jardines-group dealer (Manchester Audi). If I have the issues, I'll report on here my experience with the two dealers (I bought from the jardines one)

Maybe if they are more helpful, you could try sending it to one here (at Audi's expense of course)

Had door issues in first week, but very infrequently. Has been getting worse all the time, and happens about 80% of the time now when I open the door (either from inside or outside). Its OK if door recently opened or window wound down, but if it hasn't been opened for longer than say 30 mins then very likely to happen. Cause and fix unknown. Sometimes doesn't drop at all sometimes drops partially, sometimes drops correctly.

This is what it is supposed to happen when window drops - lines up with the top of the black metal triangle on door

Exact same thing that happened to me, it's annoying as hell as I use to have a vw cc with pillar less door and it never put a foot wrong in the 2 years I had it

I've been playing with my A5 Cab today and can't seem to get it not to drop the window when opening the door. However, it's day one, not out of the woods by a long margin.

What I did notice after I put the roof back up, is that the window didn't go all the way back up to form a tight seal (it went up as far as the "door open" position i.e. about 1 cm below the tight fit) even though I was driving at about 20 throughout, let alone opening the door.

I had to press up again on the window switch to seal it in.

Is that normal?

Sorry - I don't have a Cab.
My A5 is in the dealer at the moment, no clear cause or fix has been identified so dealer is replacing all window related components - window regulator, window motor, window control unit, door latch (has micro-switch triggered on door opening).
I am feeling hopeful...will get it back tomorrow

Hopefully so! Currently on 120 miles and no issues with the door/window... maybe they have solved the problem at the factory and the new replacement parts will fix the issue.

I checked the roof one I mentioned - can't seem to get it to do it again, so I am wondering if I was mistaken! I was driving it at the time (below 31mph of course!)

Is yours a sportback or coupe? I'm not 100% if the sportback has frameless doors.

Yes Sportback 2.0 TFSI - they all have frameless windows, I've just got 4 of them

Well my car has developed the fault again

Damn that's a shame!
Good and bad news here - my drivers door has been fine so far today (1st day back so too early to be sure), BUT today passenger door did it for the first time!!!

BTW Audi UK told my dealer that they hadn't seen this before. Somebody's telling porkies.

What did they change when yours was in?

Well it's been in for 5 visits now so pretty much everything they can change has been tbh I am at the point of thinking how much longer can I put up with this.

I know the feeling and mine's only been in twice for this on drivers door, but will need to go back for passenger now.

Best hope is that drivers door continues to work then I guess they can copy that... but I need to leave it a while and start checking passenger door too. Everything else's perfect but just cant enjoy it

That's the thing with me is I can't enjoy the car right now because I know if the issue occurs and I press the lock button it won't lock so there is a risk that if I don't pay attention I could walk away and someone breaks into the car and I won't be covered by insurance.

True - something else for me to worry about! I've got into habit of double checking on the app but it's a real hassle

Same here I've now had the car since January 5th and it's just ticked over 2.2k miles

Car is booked in yet again to glasgow Audi and I have told them I want to discuss options as I have no confidence in 6th time lucky

OMG this thread makes for terrible reading.

So sorry for you Sparky.

I've had Audi's the last 10 years and my current RS has had no end of visits to the Dealers for brakes, so know where you are coming from.

It does feel like the quality of late is not as good as it used to be.

frameless doors have been around for ages so why they have ****ed up the design is totally unacceptable.

Hope you get this sorted pronto now as I can see its been dragging on for ages.

Quite concerning for me also, as an S5 is car I would consider next.

I am at the same place now as Sparky. I would consider one more attempt (3rd), but also want to discuss options as I have no confidence in fix as cause not known.

Both front doors now have window not dropping faults. Admittedly at reduced frequency since last visit, but never had with passenger door previously, and have now started getting a new one. When door closes, sometimes window doesn't automatically rise and seal. MMI app says car unlocked and window open after locking.

Car looks great and drive is fantastic, but can't accept this on a brand new car listed at ca £50k OTR

The way of things I suppose. Trouble is they can't build them fast enough and this will inevitably mean a drop in quality. As you say though, the problem with the doors, you'd think it was their first time using them!
