I'd completely agree - in fact probably one of the first options I selected again when I moved from the A3 to A4. For my stop start daily commute in heavy traffic its a godsend! I guess if your lucky enough to not have those sort of journeys then it might not be as useful.

Leave in gear and engage the electronic holding brake.

Maybe easier to reword the original question: in what scenario does HHA do more than a normal flip of the e-hand brake does?
Also in the case of the tiptronic 'boxes, I've rarely had an auto (torque converter) that will roll backwards in drive i.e it will hold itself on moderate inclines so in case of S4, can't see the point. Genuinely interested in what it does, espcecially as I've not ordered it haha.

Yes the A4 does a temporary hill hold assist and the version that automatically applies the brakes on all four wheels when you come to halt then releases them again when you pull away. Had one on my A3 and have one on my A4 and wouldn't be without it..
Assuming your talking about the Hold Assist optional extra it really does nothing more than holding the brake for you automatically when you come to a stop meaning you can lift your foot off the brake and not bother having to manually flip the e-hand brake switch. As I mentioned in my earlier post I find it great for heavy stop start traffic as it saves me either having to always hold the brake pedal or be constantly flipping on the e-hand brake when i come to a stop.
I spec'ed the HHA on my manual B8 A4 & loved it
When I ordered my B8.5 S4 s-tronic it was 1 of the first options I went for

It is standard now!
Started selling the new MY18 cars from today and its standard on most specs!
How did you disable start stop? Can you not just do this normally?

Ahh ok, Im still waiting for delivery of my car so its a B9. I just assumed I could turn it off. Is this not the case?

@Capitan - You can turn stop/start off, but it will re-engage everytime the ignition is switched on
Just means pressing the SS button everytime you start the car

No different from any other car, you can always purchase a thirty quid device that programs the start/stop to be permanently off, or just push the button or put the gearbox into sport mode..

That's weird. I have my Drive Select on efficiency mode (quite often at the moment as trying to get the MPG up!!) and S-Tronic in Drive (well technically it's in 'E')
When I pull back on lever into Sport, the Drive Select remains in efficiency mode, and only the gearbox switches to S mode.
Yeah, but the whole manner of the engine and throttle response changes in sport mode and I linked to the changes in another thread. I think the mode indicator is just telling porkies...

Changing to sport mode using the gear lever doesn't change the drive select settings for the steering and suspension unlike selecting dynamic with drive select which changes everything.
I have recently got my S5 delivered and I didn't spec HHA but I have the (H) button. The brochure still says it is a optional extra. So i'm a little confused.
when it is enabled the car basically applies the auto handbrake every time i come to a stop. is that HHA? It doesn't appear to care if i'm on an incline or not like I had in my Cupra (didn't have any button to turn it off on that)

Yes are are quite correct, I don't have any of those things so I referring to the engine mode. So that'll be, if you have the dynamic suspension, it'll not show it, however, to be honest I have never looked at mine whilst in sport mode so I don't know if mine does anyway..
