I was going to do a cringeworthy introduction post saying something like 'Hello, my name's Pete and I've got an A3 and I live in Worcestershire and I like long walks in the country with my dogs and my favourite beer is Scruttock's Old Dirigible', but I didn't.
I'd been wasting everybody's time on VWAF on and off for a few years while I had an allroad 2.5TDI, but that went before it became an even deeper money pit than it was already. I was sad to see the old girl go. Twelve years from new, and it never let me down. Not once. It wasn't a cheap car to run, mind...
Anyway, this place seems to be where it's at if you're a happenin' dude with an A3, which is what I am now.
So...
I've used Carista's customisations on this here 2017MY Sportback 2.0TFSI, and I can't help feeling that it's a little bit of an anticlimax. Not a total let-down; just not quite what I was hoping for. I've used it to enable the passenger side mirror-dip on reverse (which is ace) and get the oil temperature display in the DIS, but have had no joy at all with beep on remote lock, as one or two people have alluded to above.
And that's it. Nothing else. It would have been nice had it been possible to enable permanent instrument dial illumination without having to turn the light switch to auto, but that won't work. And although I'm some little way from needing to use the EPB function to facilitate changing the rear pads, I'm a bit mystified as to why I had this option in one of the beta versions around Christmas time, but it has subsequently disappeared, never to be seen again.
I did toy briefly with enabling the needle sweep, but my days of needing to impress a bit of skirt are long behind me. I love Mrs Phutters dearly, and if I really thought that having a needle sweep would increase the chances of a bit of how's your father I'd be outside enabling it now, but she really couldn't care less about such things.
The diagnostics are fine. No complaints there. It's already repaid the cost of the kosher Carista adaptor in use on my daughter's 2010 8P.
All things considered, a bit of a curate's egg. Good in parts.
Fix the beep on lock and I'll be well chuffed.
Init.
