S4 (B9) MPG

It also looks to me that the overall performance and in terms of 0 to 60 is the same as the b8 rs4 ..

Very much so. The torque is critical. The major flaw in the B8 RS4. Not bashing the RS4. I looked at it! But, all things considered, the interior, the tech, the performance...just too hard to ignore.

RS4 has that incredible NA 8250rpm limit V8. Its beautiful. But for a daily, just crazy money. Especially on finance. Same money there abouts for B9 S4 and you just can't justify that for what's essentially a 2009 platform (2012 FL).

Now, B9 RS4 on the other hand...

Not to get off topic. Got my own thread for my thoughts on it. But it's very different from the B8.5. A big step forwards for me and indeed, Audi. It's just lighter. And with sport diff, it's a very capable car. I really like it.

Efficiency is not bad either to stay on point. But truly, you cannot buy this car to save money. That's what the 3.0 TDI is for and it does it very well.

I'm pleased with my oil burner and get 35... 38 mpg on a daily basis ..I don't travel far but I do like to give it some welly so to look after the egr and dpf .. but I also think oil burners are going to be financially punished in the future .. so imo the s4 is a win win

I dont think so. I had one for a week when audi was faffing with mine and it's a brilliant car but no RS. Different league in feel, noise and delivery. Better interior though

The B9 RS5 is going to struggle to be any quicker than the B8 in an all guns blazing sprint.

Yes the S4 has 50lb more torque and the RS 100lb more but only over 3k rpm, either side of that and it drops sharpish. It runs out of puff at 6.5k where the V8 develops less but over way more revs - 90 - 100% of it's 320lb from 3k to 9k - super flat torque and linear power increase with revs based on that.

Fuel wise i got 28mpg on my 200 mile motorway commute. Mine does 25mpg.

It'll make me sad if the B9 RS4 gets the same or better MPG. However, wanted comfortably growly petrol engine and luxurious interior... Got S4... Happy!

Looking fwd to the B9 RS4 but Mrs wouldn't let me have one anyway :)

Trolled! Haha. Kidding. I spoke to you quite a bit before my purchase and I love the RS4. You know that.

But torque is all top heavy on the RS4. 'Real' world driving...nobody has a drag strip or airfield outside their house. I have access to one but no racing Anyway. It's so much more adjustable in the corners the B9 S4. I've driven both.

But, it's just not an argument. If you can live without the tech advances, interior and other things, that V8 is gonna win win win until the cows come home. Fact. More smiles. I just couldn't justify paying all that fuel, depreciating it with the mileage (it's an RS and needs to be looked after) and paying the same amount of money with a crazy APR.

I will do everything I can, however, to get the B9 RS4. And I think you'll be eating your words with the RS5 comment! Haha. Return to form I reckon with this 2.9.

Haha no you're right it takes way less effort to go fast. Mine needs to be above 5k all the time to feel rapid. S tronic helps in that. If it was a manual it would be hard work and I'd often get caught out.

And obviously as enthusiast owners it doesn't take much money to make an S4 very very quick. I don't have that luxury.

There are not many new cars I'd drop S4 money on over an S4. It is pretty well sorted.

We'll see about the new RS5/RS4. I'm really dissapointed because it was my logical next move but i don't think it will fill the emotional requirement in looks, go, sound or feel. Eyes peeled for the R5

Indeed! That 2.9 is going to be used in new cars in the range now. RS4/5 performance will follow with 500bhp. Logical step.

I hope so. If they can squeeze more out via increased revs rather than more boost it could be interesting. Plus they are working on a baby R tronic box with graziano which would be epic because i would want DCT in a 500bhp car.

You know what they say, the only replacement for displacement is revs. Nobody ever focuses on that. Only ever peak power and torque and how low they appear in the rpms. That's not fun.

Went out on our first trip today to Bluewater shopping center. The total journey was circa 70 miles and a mixture of roads, because car has only done a few miles on the clock we took it easy but squeezed the peddle occasionally and maintained the speed limit 70 miles per hour on the M25. I also have ACC on with Predictive Assist enabled, the end result was

[photo=large]8077[/photo]

The ACC with the predictive assist is amazing how on the M25 they had enforced temporary speed reduction from 70 to 60 the 50 and it read the signs and slowed down accordingly.

the above figure was the car in auto settings in drive select with no efficiency mode.

I think my MPG is improving! I'm on 2,900 miles now and on a 20 mile drive to work this morning I got 37.1 MPG in Dynamic mode, admittedly driving very sensibly. On the way home, less frugal driving got me 30 MPG.

I haven't been paying too much attention but certainly a couple of weeks ago I was getting closer to 23 MPG when driving in a similar fashion to my homeward trip, and I'm sure that was in Comfort mode too.

Its getting a bit warmer now which is also a factor. But almost 2000 miles in I'm starting to see 30mpg relatively easily.

Only done 300 miles on the car. Fair to say my commute on 50mph roads and motorway. Was keeping to the speed limits.

How did you get the VC to show the dials like that? I just seem to get the central rev counter or the mini dials over the sat-nav view.

@Dave70 it's an S4 only feature but I believe can be coded on other models.

Some of the MPGs are very impressive! Not much off the 40mpg average I get on the 2.0TFSI! And that 65 miles of m-way driving per day. Crazy!

A new Personal Best: 37.4mpg - and that included a bit of poke on a dual-carriage way. Will get it to 40 I'm sure. Also Radio 4. Also, tried the new dial layout but preferred the original one as it also shows oil temp.

S4 mpg

2000 miles in and the long term mpg reading is 30.1. When I parted with the b8.5 with 27k on the clock the long term average was 28 mpg. Not bad...

Is the reading still 8-10% out as it is on the b8? My demo i had suggested it was but that was just one tank.

Not sure, I'm not so concerned with mpg to record tank to tank but I'm assuming the error is consistent. Real world amount of fill ups is pretty much the same so can't be too different.

I'm about to place an order

I'm going to do be doing 20k a year :d

Can't wait. I am hoping to average 30mpg though...

I just picked up my B9 from Bolton Audi last Saturday and drove back to Darlington about 110 miles, taking it steady averaged 32mpg. I still have my B8.5 which is going back next week and with nigh on 60000 on the clock it averaged between 33 - 37mpg. I usually go off the tank range which was between 280 miles to fuel light and the best i've had was just over 400 miles to fuel light.

On a slight tangent, the B9 is a massive step up from the B8.5 and i actually went for a spin in a B8.5 with stage 2 remap and pulley putting out nearly 500 bhp the other day. My friend reckons torque wise there isn't much in it between his tuned B8.5 and my B9.

I have averaged 25 over the first 5000 miles, 30+ on motorway runs is easy, the one thing you may find alarming are the tyres, mine is going through the rubber at quite a rate, I reckon a new set every 10k or so for me, ill be doing around 15k a year

Just ordered. Can't wait.

400 miles in and averaging 23.5mpg so far with a few shorter trips so I expect this to improve.......and then decline again once I finish the running in period lol
