Anyone else have any experience with B&O with and without tech pack? Audi description says you get the extra Dolby surround sound 5.1 with the tech pack, personally I noticed a big difference. I had an s3 without tech and I was a little dissapointed with th sound. I've just picked up a new s3 with tech and it sounds so much crisper. Wonder if tech ups the amps too?

You only get Dolby surround sound from Dolby encoded software, bang&olufsen adds Pseudo surround sound which is not as good or defined and the technology package does not add extra watts to the system just a fancier satnav and a Dvd player

I thought this too which is why I went to my mates and tested it again, we both agreed it sounded better. Don't get me wrong it wasn't night and day, just had the edge.

My FL has B&O and non-tech and I've impressed with the sound quality. It's not quite as good as my A4 that had B&O but still can't really grumble.

As already mentioned, 5.1 will only really be useful for video playback and even then who wants to sit in a car and watch a full movie in 5.1. Can think of much more comfortable environments!

Had the B&O turned upto max with a bit of ACDC on the way home whilst the ACC was doing it's thing in traffic. My ears are still ringing...

I've just noticed I have a subwoofer control in my sound settings, I don't remember seeing one for b and o without tech, can someone confirm?

Hi
Not posted on here for while.

I picked up my S3 8V Sportback S-Tronic Facelift last week, and it has B&O sound and tech pack, and I think the system sounds "ok" but no better than the Bose system in my S3 (8P) that I have parted with after 10 years of ownership. I was expecting the B&O system to be something special, but I'm a bit underwhelmed if I'm honest.

But in my 8V MMI system, there is no "subwoofer" control option. If there is, I cant find it. Its purely, Base, Treble and Surround. So if you can help me find it or enable it, that would be great.

My 8V has the sub control option, I think it has been added to the latest software

I think for some reason it dropped off of the 8V but they have started reinstating it on latest software, think it was was an error.

Has anyone that has b and o but no tech confirm wether they have the option? No reason just interested.

I have the B&O system without tech pack and you have all the sub control options in there. mines a 64 car not a facelift

Why would you not get a Subwoofer controller on a stand alone speaker option, the technology package has nowt to do with the sound system, the Subwoofer in the bang&olufsen sound system is a active sub and not passive sub, like in any other Audi sound system.... And there is no difference is sound quality with the bang&olufsen with or without the technology package end of.

I used to have the B&O with the tech pack on my last A3 and it was the dog's back wheels. I went for the B&O again on my new A3, but neglected to select the technology pack. Imagine my disappointment when I discovered I'd lost my Woofer control (only Bass & Treble now). Gutted. I've looked back at the brochure and options list, and it doesn't mention this loss of functionality.

I test drove a PFL S3 2 weeks ago and that had B&O but no tech pack, still had subwoofer control though.

I have a FL A3 with B&O and no tech pack with no subwoofer control option!!

I've been told by Audi Customer Services that an S3 of the year of my car (2016, but FL) with B&O should have the subwoofer control. I've also checked the Owners Manual (dated: 07/2016), and it refers to controlling the subwoofer on page 306. Their advice take it to the dealer. But they also said, there are no updates to the MMI system. So what will the dealer be able to do?

I've just seen a post in the "8V How to: Mods" sticky thread and @DJAlix did some coding for someone who fitted a subwoofer to a PFL car. Which got me thinking, is this just a coding thing, and could I do it myself with my VCDS?

Activating the Subwoofer control, although in part is completed via long coding, is actually activated via editing a "parameter set" within the MMI's firmware. VCDS is unable to do this unfortunately.

I am currently looking in to FL controls, and more, but am at a dead end with my current tools. I now have a full ODIS licence (official dealership tool) which will enable me to investigate further however I am currently awaiting the needed VAS interface (cable) as they are on back order :(

Sorry to resurrect this thread but is there any progress to this? Mine is a 66 plate facelift with B&O and Tech Pack Advanced but no Subwoofer controls. MMI Version is 0694. Can you not update the MMI software yourself?

Please let us know how you get on... my '17 plate S3 with B&O non tech does not have sub settings either.

ive got the audi speaker pack 2014 model and it has a subwoofer option on the MMI . im sure when i bought it they said it has the uprated speaker package but not B&O

My mistake, my MMI Version is actually 0679. I did find the option to do a software update and it asks how you want to do it (internet, SD card, USB etc). I'll have a try tomorrow and see if it works.

Hi All,

I'm a bit behind on this so apologies. Are we saying we should be able to adjust volume of the subwoofer when FL S3 is fitter with B & O and Tech Pack?

Mine is 66 plate (registered 3rd Sept) and I do not have a subwoofer control, only treble and bass. Like others I like the system, but a little underwhelmed, perhaps this is why?

Yeah that's the problem. Although I don't think Tech Pack matters, it only adds the Dolby surround sound. I tried to update it just now through the MMI choosing internet but it looks like you can only update the maps through MyAudi.

The technology pack does not change anything wrt B&O. You gain the ability to play 5.1 surround sound audio, but only because with the tech pack you gain a DVD player which can be used to play 5.1 movies. For music there is absolutely no difference.

However, PFL and FL B&O sound different. I haven't heard it myself, but there is a change according to some people.

When it comes to subwoofer level control: this option was missing from older FL MMI software. Since MMI version 0875 it has been available again. If you have B&O you should go to your dealer and get them to update your MMI to at least 0875, because you are indeed meant to have subwoofer level control.

You can watch movies? On the pop up screen? I never new that..

DVD playback is only available on the highest spec (Navigation Plus / MMI Touch). In the US that means Premium Plus + technology pack or Prestige. Same for PFL, although Navigation Plus / MMI Touch may have been available in different trims back then.

An added bonus then, is this only on cars with tech packs or all of them have it?

Just check your glovebox I guess. I know the facelift got the navigation plus as standard now so it could have it.

An update on trying to get the new software. The finance guy I asked about it referred me to the service department. He talked to the head of their technical team, who said they isn't an update available and said I'd get an email from the service department saying this but thought he should tell me before hand. I linked him this forum thread and the other one, but he basically dismissed the forum with an analogy about paint. So doesn't look like I'll be getting it from them. I'll try Audi Customer service now and see what they say.

lol how can they say there's no update available when there's cars out there (like mine) running newer software? Unless they just haven't released it for the dealers to offer as an update.

I'm guessing they haven't released it for dealers but then didn't some people say they got the update? I emailed him the link to this thread and the other one but he basically said to not trust forums. Made an analogy about how he's painting his house and he's reading the forums for how much water to use but people are giving different opinions. He also started talking about buying a new amp at home which has no subwoofer setting so I shouldn't be worried. Either way, I contacted Audi UK Customer Care and they've asked for my VIN.
