hi guys, been a member on here for a good 9 years now, my first flutter with audis was back in 2006 with a 1.8T Sport B5 in red.

I since had a few including;

2.0 FSI sport in black with the GMBH kit
1.8T sport in denim blue (163)
1.9tdi Avant sport with GMBH kit in black
1.9tdi sport avant in Ming blue
1.9tdi Quattro sport in Akoya silver

The latest fling is a 2.0 tfsi s line special edition with the 220bhp BUL engine. Bought it last friday from a lovely polish couple who bought the car approved used in 2009 from Audi . Its a fairly basic spec for a S line Se (i.e. no cruise, heated seats, dipped rear mirror etc) but its a great example with very minor wear and tear and has been serviced well at Awesome gti.

Has a rather nice pioneer double din app radio in too which is a bonus

The faults i've found that need addressing are/were;

Turbo actuator rod is rattling
Snub mount worn causing a small amount of excess movement
PCV valve broken causing rough idling
Clutch switch failed causing high revs on shifting
reg plates tarnished
no arm rest! (one thing i find essential in a b6/b7)
2 tyres worn close to legal limit
3 weeks MOT remaining
discs are warped causing vibration under braking

So to address the issues, its been a busy week so far

Monday - ordered new PCV & gasket - fitted on monday evening - car idles perfectly again
Tuesday ordered reg plates & arm rest
wednesday - MOT - all passed no advisories aside 2 tyres which i was replacing anyeay
thursday (last night) 2 part worn tyres fitted due to the budgets i'd ordered being wrong type,
fitted new clutch switch so no more high revs on shifting - nice easy fix
fitted new snub mount so nice smooth gear changes - really easy fix!

only things left to 'fix' is the turbo rattle - this is bugging me but if i cant solve it im not spending £600+ on a turbo & labour so i'll just live with it! and fit the new numberplates

the mods i have planned are;

FK coilover suspension all round
BBS LM-R 19" Staggered

Ordering the wheels & Coilovers today so hopefully be fitted next week or the following.

Thanks for looking

jamie

I would no problem but I'm in N.Ireland

Its a straight forward job to be honest, you only need to remove the top bolts on the turbo manifold as the bottom bolts hold an angled plate that the bottom of the turbo flange slots into

A few hours would have the turbo changed with basic tools

Ahh i just dont have the condifence to attack that yet :( I just about mananged to change the snub mount which is 3 bolts and doesnt have any detrimental effect to the engine if it goes wrong, a turbo scares me to be honest

Well if your not confident then it would be best to leave it in to someone else to fit, couldn't see them charging to much

Very nice Sp Ed Jamie. Nice selection of previous Audis too :sunglasses:

I know what you mean about the spec. I assumed (never assume!) that most Sp Ed would have good standard equipment, e.g auto lights, dimming rear view, armrest etc. I soon realised they don't. Took me a while to find an SE with the right level of equipment, I was happy with.

I know it's fun and quite satisfying to retro fit most of it, I didn't fancy it...been there done that already , plus it can cost a fair bit of money and time.

Although, you do have the sort after brushed aluminium interior trim and a quality Pioneer HU ( mine came with that too!) which is cool ;)

Great progress on your issues so far, nice to see someone doing it themselves. All the small improvements add up, don't they. You've been doing very similar jobs to me. I've recently changed the Clutch switch and the PVC. The Snub mount will be next. Ive already fitted one of these on my previous DTM. As you say easy fix.

What colour is yours? It looks blueish in the last pic.

I'm also doing a progress thread on my Deep Sea Blue Sp Ed, if you want take a look.

Thanks for the kind words Rog! Yes was reading your thread the other day I saw your car its looking brilliant you have done well there with your car I thought how similar it was with the headunit etc! It was your dtm thread which gave me the confidence to attack the snub Mount Haha! Mines phantom black I do need to attack it with the rotary though as there are a lot of swirls! How you getting on with yours? You have any turbo rattle from the wastegate at all?

I'm glad my DTM thread helped you Jamie! Makes it worth while me doing them

I've had a Phantom Black A3, great colour, they come up very nice after machine polishing. Sounds like you into your detailing too, if you have a rotary polisher.

I've only tickled the paintwork with the polisher on mine, so still full of swirls and RDS. It will need a multi-stage polish to correct it. But it isn't going to be a show queen, so I would only be enhancing it really.

I've not had any issues (so far) with my turbo. I did have a whistle on the DTM, which I never got to the bottom of. Sounds like yours needs to come off to be able to sort it.

Yea I'm really into detailing just got my trusty silver line rotary which is my 3rd one as I keep burning them out haha

Your a3 looked stunning and ye phantom black comes up so well here is mine today after a quick tickle with the rotary and just some srp

nice car chap.

with regards to replacing the turbo its not as daunting as it may seem.

My turbo needed refurbishing last year so I removed it and re-fit it again myself.

theres a good diy I should be able to find if you fancy doing it yourself.

Thanks Darren appreciate it. For what it is I don't think I can be bothered with all the hassle unless it goes completely I think I'll just live with it for now

for no real reason heres my old A4 Quattro 130tdi sport with GMBH kit, bought it off some chap in liverpool was a CAT D and he didnt tell me, my own fault for not checking but it never put a foot wrong so cant moan

Fitted a matching dark grey /anthracite leather arm rest today. Done them before no biggie hardest bits butchering centre console then it's a 5 min job

Can't belive these cars didnt come with arm rests as standard! They feel so wrong without!

Also had the tyres fitted to the Bbs ready to go on when coilovers are fitted!

jesus - 5 hours last night fitting coilovers what a nightmare! Give me a bmw any day! the a4/a6/passat is one of THE most PITA suspension setups ive ever had to work on, ok rant over lol.

Had to do the drivers front in situ as the pinch bolt wasnt for budging on the top arms and didnt want to snap it so getting spring compressors on whilst in the arch was fun!

then the rears! omg! thanks to the advice on here dropping the rear subframe bolts otherwise would have been imposible , prized the springs out eventually with 2 spring compressors on one side and then its now sitting pretty damn low! Cant wait to get the wheels on later! Pics when theyre on :)

Hi Jamie

Just seen your for sale advert on eBay. I was little surprised, after you've just spent a fair bit on it?

What's up? Not getting on with it ?

Hi Rog, yea, just not for me im afraid. Ive got BMW stamped throuh me like a stick of rock. Just cant beat the way they drive IMO. Shame as its a lovely car. Someone will be getting a bargain with what ive spent on it!

I can understand where you're coming from, BMWs are awesome machines. And if you love the way they drive you can't really replace them, with an Audi. I haven't had a Beemer yet. I did drive my brothers 3 series CI, which felt great, so it's definitely an itch I want to scratch at some point. Maybe a project car.

Good luck with the sale. Personally, I would put the standard alloys back on, it may widen your market.

Yeah I've had about 3o bmws now become a bit of an obsession! Yeah I would love to turn one into a track car!

Thankyou unfortunately sold the dtm wheels so just holding out for the right buyer. Had lots of enquiries already just time wasters mostly
