I've noticed that exterior glass coatings has been talked about in some of the other Detailing treads, so a new thread to keep it all in one place

I've tried a few exterior glass coatings, including the Gtechniq G1/G2 combo (which I found was not only expensive but can be a bit fussy to apply correctly)

My fave is Angelwax H2Go

Not only is it tremendous VFM but it is a doddle to apply. I've applied it in the summer months & winter months down to around 1-2 degrees C without any probs

On the windscreen I always use 2 coats, around 20 mins apart. This will give me up to 6 months durability on the windscreen and longer with one coat on windows without wipers

My wife's old MINI JCW had a pano roof which I coated with this withnot any probs



For £5.95 for a 100ml bottle, why would you buy anything else ?

Think I'll be buying some of this and some other Angelwax products when I get round to it in the summer.

I've been using AW H2GO for a couple of years now, great value for money product.

That looks awesome BH :friends:

My glass has Nanolex Ultra sealant on it at the mo and it beads like crazy like no need for wipers crazy. It was detailer applied though so can't comment on the application and it doesn't look the cheapest. A positive is that there's no wiper noise or skip. I did clock my pano roof at the w/e and it was similar to your JCW photo but didn't take a pic in case I dropped my phone on it LoL !!

Looks like good stuff. The beading is very impressive.

I've been a fan of these types of glass coatings ever since I started driving and realised that with Rain-X it didn't matter that with pre-1990's aero tech your wipers would levitate 1/2" above your window before you were anywhere near flat out in top (4th) gear. (Oh yes, Rain-X. Back in those halcyon pre-internet days when turtle wax was as good a shine as you'd get, phones still had wires, and an HB pencil was a vital part of your In-car audio equipment, Rain-x was the only glass technology choice. You'd find it on the dusty shelf by the Redex carburettor cleaner and the Slick-50 in your local motor factors.)

I have become a bit lazy though, and since rain-x's effectiveness can be measured in days, I prefer something with a bit more staying power. Preferably enough staying power to go on once, last 3 years and 20,000 miles, and still be working. G-Techniq's stuff is a ****** pain to get right (my shower door still has a couple of streaks on it) but it really lasts, so "the do it once and forget it" nature of the stuff is a big plus.

Just looked up the price. 250ml for £12 is very good value for money.

I have been using Aquapel, it's pretty good and you get a few months out of it, 5 or 6 I recon. You get it on E.Bay, just have to watch the price, it looks like it mainly comes form America, so unless a UK person wants to bulk buy a batch and sell on the carriage fees are prohibitive.
It's funny you don't get it in the UK but you do get Rain-X in about every motor shop, which is no good in the UK as it's gone in about 3-4 weeks and you need to re-apply, so forget that in winter, unless you have a nice heated garage for your pride and joy!

@Bristle Hound here is where l fall from grace with regards to aquaphobic glass sealants, l don't like applying them at all,l got the full gtechniq Glass cleaning kit yonks ago and l have only used the glass polish (waste of money) and the G6 glass cleaner (very good) from it,not used the G1/G2 as l know there going to be like too much hard work lol so it's just G6 for me lasts a couple of weeks but l apply it on the windows after every wash "weather permitting" @Rob2k68 that Nanolex glass sealant on your car is £25 quid but as usual you've "too much money" lol maybe on my next car l will apply some good kit like this angel wax kit you recommend BH,as it sound really good and cheap

Based on my limited experience of glass treatments have to say I'm not a big fan.
When I had my car detailed when new in 2014, I had car pro flyby 30 on the glass.
On the 80 mile trip home the heavens opened and it lashed down. Wasn't going fast enough for the windscreen to clear and wipers chattered like they were going to break. Never bothered since, but I've noticed that spraying my glass with CP hydro 2 lite when washing seems to be excellent for dispersing water as I drive.

G1/G2 will repel rain very easily off the windscreen below 30 mph but it's a right ****** to apply and time consuming, best process l have heard of dividing the windscreen into 4 equal sections and apply to a section at time

I have some G1 that I was going to apply in the next month or two....starting to think twice about it! Is there any good guides on YouTube about application technics?

Yeah via YouTube, but l think you have to combine both G1/G2 to get the full monty mate

Good spot mate - could be that the moving bit is glass and the surround plastic ?

Haha it is plastic or Poly(methyl methacrylate) to give it it's correct name - PMMA for short.
 
No idea, was on the car when I got it, almost as if someone has been trying to remove bird sh1t with a brillo pad, top left corner of the screen, so annoys the hell out of me.

Thread Revival

Following on from my previous post, I never got to try the Gtechniq G1/G2 that I have. I found it over the weekend and I’m going to try it. Question is, does anyone suggest that I don’t? Reading on line it seems some users have suffered from wiper judder, but there also seems to be lots of positive reviews. Going to take my time (I’ve got plenty of it at the minute!) and give it a proper go.

Anyone with any last minute thoughts before I take the plunge?

Use a Glass polish to detox the screen is highly recommended
