I've not had the car long and also not had auto fold mirrors for a while but the drivers side mirror folds in and out a fair bit slower than the passenger side. At a guess I would say it takes half as long again.
Is the motor a little lazy or is this fairly typical?

There will be a tolerance my drivers side is about a second slower than the passenger side but half as fast suggests a problem.

The powerfold motor is very difficult to get to and not a serviceable item so you're looking at a replacement mirror unit.

Maybe I should mention it then when I call back in.
It's definitely more than a second behind the other!

My drivers side is slow too, I had mine stop half way out the other day quite worryingly.

Not sure if there is a manual override if it did fail, I assume you just push them out but I'm not willing to try it because there is quite a resistance there.

I was about to call Audi, but having just given them a headache of a new steering rack Dad said monitor it.

My drivers side motor sounds weaker and is 1-3 seconds slower on times. Next time the car is in, I will mention it.

I would check your battery level. I used to have some problems in my old car, but once I changed the battery it went back to normal again.

Yeah mine aren't synchronized either, they are out by about 2 seconds off, but I don't have any real concerns.

Half as long again is probably too much but you would expect the passenger mirror to fold and unfold a bit quicker since it is angled more sharply towards the driver (ie the face of the mirror is closer to the car door than the driver's side).

The mirror face is, but the actual whole unit sticks out from the car at the same angle both sides (on mine).
So the fold out and fold in are equidistant both sides (as it is the whole unit which is folding).
Are your wing mirrors sticking out at different angles?

The housings themselves are mounted at slightly different angles. You can see here, the inner surface of the driver's side mirror is parallel to the door trim, whereas the inner surface of the passenger side housing is angled.

More so in the colder mornings, my folding mirrors dont fold open when I start the car - maybe one does and the other doesnt, same with either side, could be one or the other or both

Usually turning the dial on the armrest to fold and then fold out resolves this but sometimes i dont realise and when i go to check my mirrors, i am looking at myself!

Anyone any experience with this?

Yep, for me always the drivers side. When it gets really slow or stops whilst opening judicious quantities of GT85 when the mirror is closed in the general areas in the photos seems to help for a while, but I don't think gets to the root of the problem...

have you checked your battery?
When I had a dodgy battery mine sometimes didn’t unfold or unfold 1 mirror. after the engine has been running for a few seconds everything was back to normal. These things are quite sensitive to battery levels as the electronics should protect the car and let the engine start above all other things like windows and mirrors.

I will check my battery connections @AlS3BE but don't think it is that - thanks :)
Not the connections, the charge level especially after a long ish drive Should hold 80%+.
My battery was struggling to hold 60% after a 2 hour drive then got to the point it wouldnt start the car. In that time stuff like windows, mirrors, climate were in the Fritz. New battery sorted everything. This was in a 1 year old car.
I would say in my experience with these stop start batteries is the efb type lasts around 3-4 years and start showing issues and the agm type lasts a bit longer. I leave my stop start on so it could be that killing the batteries in 3-4 years.
