Hi

I'm considering getting a custom exhaust for my A4 avant s line b8 170bhp. I was wondering if anyone knows if this is worth while on a Diesel car? and also while this improve performance?

Thanks John

i have mine done by tmp only rear back box delete but boi dont i live it

yeeeesss.
what exactly you wanting from it? and are you wanting the full package with dpf delete etc?
I had the rear boxes deleted and custom straight pipes from the mid silencer to quad exit pipes with standard map on my 170. Made it sound a little more grunty under acceleration but a little drone between 1800 and 2000rpm on the motorway.

Video of just rear box delete.

Since then I got bored and wanted more noise and pull so had the dpf gutted, egr coded out and a map.
Sounds like this and goes like the clappers :congratulatory:

also with no back boxes you suddenly hear when your car goes in the DPF regen, sounds incredibly loud and droney for a minute.. first few times i thought my turbo or something was breaking and freaked.. then i kinda liked it lol

I'm looking for something with a little grunt I dont want anything too loud that u can hear for miles lol
And something that's going to pass mot's

it sounds a lot better in person than that video wouldn't worry to much about a whole exhaust i would just go with what me and @Meemo have had which is middle back

rear box delete it is :) very subtle and gives you a chance to make the back end prettier with quad or dual exits too.
Before the loud work I had done, people would complement how lovely it sounded when i pulled up, nothing boy racer and silent as a full standard exhaust when sat idle.

just realised you asked about performance too, just the back section performance enhancement is negledgable, you may feel a little more responsiveness as it is less restricted, but without a map nothing night and day

I had a custom fabricated stainless steel. Got a small back box on each side, no middle box.

How much is the going rate for a back box delete please?
bearing in mind my car is a 2.7 tdi with dual back boxes currently.
also as i have had dpf and egr delete and a remap, will deleting the back boxes make it massively loud?

around 350 ish.. I am sure there are places at a much better price but i paid 350/400 i think and that was to cut the old exhaust off at the mid silencer then custom pipes to quad exits (no back boxes).
It will be much louder :)
My earlier video in this thread of the same as what you want but done on a 2.0, i expect it to sound a little nicer/gruntier than that.

Evening,

I'm looking at doing something similar to my 2.0TDI, can you confirm what rear diffuser that is? (S-Line bumper?)

Hi, yes it's off an S4 B8. Someone with an S4 upgraded their diffuser and sold me that one.

Thanks for the reply, memory had me to believe it was the S4 diffuser I needed.

Now just need to decide what set up to go for?

Backbox delete, DPF delete (gut), egr delete etc.. Pro's & Cons of each & how much its all going to set me back £££

Meemo,

What do you opt for with your exhaust? & if you don't mind me asking, what did you pay?

too much for in response to how much did i pay.. eeeep, i made a poor decision on who did the work originally for the tune, i went to a different tuner later on to have it done again.

1. I have rear box deletes with custom pipes from the centre silencer to quad exit and s4 difuser. - done by EMP Performance, was £350 i think very good work.
2. DPF gutted and egr coded out and mapped - done by Narco tuning £630 (was originally outed 350+ vat but this changed on pick up). The map was not great and the new tuner discovered things coded out to suppress errors from the lambda, and the map was unusual in that it was running standard boost except for 1 table at 2000rpm and not all the required limiters had been removed. I had lots of stinking white smoke and very little power.
3. remap and EGR blanked off done by Bobby on here £350, car is now day and night better, so much torque and power, feels beautiful, i find myself torque steering through all of second and third :p. and no smoke!

Just glad to have it done well now and i enjoy driving it again :)
Too much drama for my liking with these companies

Thanks for the comprehensive reply!!

I'm on the look out now for a diffuser before i do anything else, i don't want to pay the earth, as its highly likely it'll be getting resprayed anyway (Gloss Black).

The price you quote seems fairly reasonable, however once you include DPF gutting, EGR coded out etc & i need it mapping again (currently Revo) this could quite easily get into 4 figures...

Cheers, Gaz.
