So I have installed a german climate controller in my S3 8P so the unit is coded to left hand drive.

In 08 HVAC module the unit coding is shown as

So I want to change 01000 to 10100 but the unit has the coding button shaded out!

The label states the following:

Can anyone help with where to run "basic setting (MVB 001)"

[04] basic settings -> channel 1

No no, go to 08 hvac then select section 04 basic settings, channel 1, click go and it will adapt

That label file you posted says it would get all info from other controllers during basic settings. It can be one of the adaptation channels as well, but the only problem is these are not described.

My thanks go out to Oswald and people like you who help solve our problems. I love it when a problem is sorted

Check for errors in 09 and 17

If this is the Q3 unit then I believe you will always get a fault - mine does the same. I hadn't worked out the LHD to RHD coding so I'll try this out ...

I reckon you need a q3 gateway to sort it.

Seen the unit is behind the glovebox on the A3 but am worried this will effect other things, like this "Once you fit the new gateway the car will go into component protection and a good few things won’t work, like climate control and instrument cluster (Speedo will work). Component protection can only be removed by a dealer or a company with a license VAS unit connected to Audi's database in Germany."

Sounds like just more pain for no gain?

Yes, thats the module. Theres no CP on gateway modules:) You just need to recode replacement accordingly to your old one.

So I checked my module behind the glovebox, I think this is it?

And the CAN on VCDS states

Also it has one connection

The Q3 module has two

But it also states + BEM on the module

Am I right in thinking the second connection is for Battery Energy Management and I don't need it?

I am assuming it would work OK with just one cable connected?

Is this a software issue in the module itself, couldn't I just get a later 8P module with a similar date of the heater controller?

I would say it would work with one plug connected. Just get the coding of module 19 not 09. 09 is the board under steering wheel with relays.

Got the module today and swapped it over. Fitted ok. Couldn't match coding. The long coding was one byte less than original, also the installation list was missing about 5 other modules fitted to my car!! Must be a mid range module not highline. VCDS also said it might need special equipment to code.

Back tot the drawing board.
