Does anyone know if these are all the same throughout the different models i.e. Se, sport and s line. I know the springs are all different but I don't know about the shocks?

I've bought a tdi s line quattro and one of the front arches is way higher than all the others. I can see something has been changed and I can see it failed a previous mot for a leaking shock absorber so this must be where someone has replaced it for the mot with the wrong part.

I'm trying to workout whether I can just replace the spring to get it back to the same height as the rest of them or whether I'm going to have to replace the shock aswell if that's a different size to the others.

The replcement shock or spring may be a miss match to what is on the opposte side. Jack up one side of the car and have alook at the strut part number and note it down, also have a look at the paint marks on the spring, there should be dabs of paint on each spring, note the colour sequence and compare as well.
Of couse there is always a chance a spring has broken again.

S-line hubs are 55mm as apposed to 50mm and the shocks on an S-Line are stiffer than the sport to accommodate the stiffer springs, I believe they are sachs.
The S-Line is 25mm lower from standard and the Sport is 15mm lower from standard.
My bet would be the spring broke and was replaced for a sport spring and not the S-Line one, but then your saying the shock was shot??? maybe both were replaced.
My advice is to always replace in pairs, your call call though mate.

have a full set of sline tdi springs sat in the garage if there needed

Think I'm going to swap all the springs for eibach pro while I'm at it as I went to the garage yesterday and the bloke told me it doesn't matter what dampers are on the car as it is the springs that determine the height.
I were going to buy 2 new s line springs but it costs less to buy a full set of eibach pro springs so I think I'm going to do that.
I'm just in 2 minds whether to change the dampers or not aswell while I'm doing it as the car is on 85000 miles. Again it's cheaper to buy a pair of bilstein b4 dampers which are equivalent of the oe ones than it is to actually buy some oe s line dampers.

I just fitted a Bilstein B12 kit that has Eibach pro springs and B8 dampers and the difference is night and day with comfort over the S-Line setup, the handling is way more balanced when on the power at high speed. And more control when exiting wet roundabouts. Much better setup.
I fitted the kit with RS3 top mounts, bearings and new dust covers, my car was on 70k.
The one thing I found is that could have fitted the lower Eibach sportline springs, may still happen.
Like you say the Eibach are cheaper and make the car less crashy when driving than the S-Line springs with possibly better handling. Win Win.
Like you I was just going to put the springs on the old dampers, but decided to do the lot as it will be more cost effective in the long run. I1m keeping the car and there are a lot more handling modifications to come including a quaife diff or better.

I got the Eibach springs fitted all round to my sportback on Wednesday due to ab1720s great advice. Huge difference in handling, especially compared to the dreaded understeer. Much better now! Sits way lower & feels way better to drive but I'm now going over speedbumps at 10mph hehe. I wish I had cash to change the dampers as the car is now on 127k! The garage said the shocks looked fine but it would have just been a quick look.
