Alarming Fuel consumption

Im bit concerned about my A6 fuel consumption. From last 3 tanks I got around 250 miles each (city driving). Now I'm not boy racer and my driving style hasn't changed. When i bought the vehicle i was getting around 350 miles within city.

Just curious what fellow 3.0 Quattro members are getting out of full tank.

Mixture of town and A roads with some dual anywhere between 400-470 miles before the light chimes on. The cold weather hasn't helped recently so MPG has taken a bit of a knock

I'm on 19's and running a bit more power than standard ;)

Best I've seen from a tank is 510. My long term average is 35mpg

when was it last serviced, also how long have you had it, Winter and winter diesel both contribute to lower mpg in the cold months
 
I'm doing 20 miles a day (10 miles each way) to work and back and getting mid to high 20's. The computer says around 30 mpg but I'm getting around 500 to a tank so slightly better. Mine is an Allroad BiTdi

Had it for just over 2 months, last service (major service as per service book) was done at 50k in October '16 and now it's at 53k.
 
Mine average approx. 29mpg per tank using brim to brim figures. Or between 350-400 miles per tank, that's 50% urban(school run) and 50% @70+
 
My wife gets between 450-500 on her daily use running around town. Mine is a 218ps allroad

that doesn't sound good... making me feel good about going for the ultra now :)

Did I forget to mention how amazing it feels when I step on the throttle to the max, and the gearbox downshifts, and everything around seems to go backwards? :D

spending most of my time on the M5/M6 i rarely even get to experience 7th gear!

Or could it be the pump where I'm filling the fuel??

Where do you guys normally fill fuel from?

Because you do low mileage could it be that you are in DPF cleaning mode a lot?

yeah re-gens hurt consumption, i fill at Asda mostly - but i have noticed a drop during winter, have gone from 48mpg to 45/46mpg
 
How many miles have people got on there engines, I'm at 4,069 miles on a 2.0TDI quattro (190BHP) and I get 40.2 MPG average with around 600miles to a tank.
 
just over 6,000 miles average since purchase 45.44 calculated (not using MMI) - usually 700miles to a tank, seen a decline since November hence my reckoning on winter having an adverse affect - hopefully make this back up in the summer (only owned the car since October)
 
Lol only got my biTDI yesterday and emptied a full tank of Shell Nitro+, £80 and lasted 410 miles, floored it quite a number of times too but 80% of that was 80-85mph motorway cruising. So i'm more than happy with the consumption.

Car has well run in at 70k miles though.

I don't use shell v power in my BiTdi as it makes it sound rough under light load when cold. Currently using shell normal diesel and millers additive and it seems to like it. Also drives well on Esso supreme and bp ultimate but the price of these is ridiculous.

Currently on about 9500 miles, getting around 34 / 35mpg over winter and 38 / 39mpg in warmer weather. So I get between 480 to 550 miles per tank until need to refill, which is normally with only one or two LEDs of the fuel gauge remaining so around 65L to fill. Mostly A-roads or dual carriageway for me, hardly any town driving. Fairly happy with that considering performance, car weight, 20" tyres etc and is a better than I was expecting tbh.
For comparison the car before our A6 was a Tiguan (2.0TDI 4wd DSG) and got very similar average fuel consumption despite less performance and weight. It never returned more than high 30's in 3yrs of ownership, it was disappointing in many other areas too - couldn;t wait to get rid of that one. Sorry going off topic a bit..
 
I've got Audi A6 Avant, 3.0 TDI 272 PS, have only had since end December with 2,300 on clock and getting around 500-550 per tank which doesn't seem too bad by comparison!! Great car and love the power of the V6. Have to try to stop myself from putting it in sport mode too often as that guzzles fuel.

I got 250 miles out of full tank averaging 22 mpg. Last tank was filled at Asda. I have just filled from shell now. There is no dpf warning on dash, car is booked for remap tomorrow so fingers crossed will see if it improves fuel consumption afterwards. Also I got 230+ miles round trip and so guess it's time for some spirited driving to clear exhaust fumes.

I just use normal Shell most of the time, and switch to the Nitro stuff after every third fill. The more expensive stuff offers no performance advantage over premium diesel, but keeps your injectors clean. My personal opinion is that Diesel engine are dirty anyways, so work better with a bit of gunk here and there. Lol

Agree, the cetane rating of standard shell diesel exceeds that of v power and as you say v power offers no performance advantage just a better cleaning package.

I am going through different forums and it seems like its Shell V-Power vs Tesco above rest. Both are 99 RON and it seems Tesco is better than Shell. I used to use Tesco fuel in my MK4 GTi ages ago, guess it's time to give it a try with V6 now.

Petrol is octane and I understood v power was 98ron and Tesco momentum 99ron. I've used both in various petrol cars and prefer the Tesco stuff. Our cooper s runs nicer on the Tesco fuel. Don't go putting Tesco momentum in your diesel!

I also read V-Power isn't good on Audi's :readit::readit:
 
mine is a B7 with a remap, I've been doing 50% dual carriage way / M.way and 50% A & B roads on a 360 mile round trip and I'm getting 33 to 36mpg tank to tank. But thats not hanging around, in the cold.
 
This was just my first top up so yeah the Vpower was just to give the engine a bit of a clean, it will be standard shell for the next few top ups.

Ive not been able to compare in the audi but my diesel Alfa used to be much quiter on cold start, smoother to drive and give you more power to work with on v-power compared to shell standard and alot more noticie than tesco standard fuel.

Also whats this about having used 65l with 2 bars of fuel left? My tank was empty almost and it only topped up to 65l.

i'm trying millers at the moment used to use it a lot on my old tdi cupra, haven't noticed any difference so far - not like a new car will be gunged up anyway
 
we get 350 - 400 miles to the tank on a bitdi with 108000 miles on the clock. I use v power diesel. short runs and the trip to my wifes work (only 7 miles) kills economy. just gets warm then stops *** lol

50 short of 4,000 miles - lots of really short journeys - car always regen'ing Fuelio showing 40.46 mpg since new.

Very rare that it is out of economy drive select

Isn't Tesco fuel is same is Esso???

What driving mode do you normally use, I drive mostly in comfort.

No idea but I get Tesco points at Esso and my local Tesco doesn't have a petrol station

Drive until the fluids are warmed up, then it's manual sport mode. Can't be doing with the crappy throttle response in comfort!! Plus being in manual mode means fewer gear changes thus better fuel economy ;)
 
I scan my A6 today and this error comes under enigne faults - p0597. There is no CEL and car drives fine. What could be the cause of it? Also can this be the cause of poor fuel consumption.

Can anyone shed some light how to resolve it as it's keep coming back after clearing it.

The code relates to an engine temp control issue. Could be a thermostat control problem so the car thinks it's always cold and using cold running fuel levels. I'd be checking the temp sensor first. Does your temp gauge read normal?

Yes temperature sits at 90 when car is warmed properly.

outside temp makes a big difference 11.0+ this morning and i averaged 56mpg :)

My economy was in the 50s today also, while I've been averaging 40s all winter.

2.0 TDI S Tronic Avant on 20s.
