Hi all. So story so far. Wifes 2012 A1 1.4 TFSI (185) 24000 miles. Its been in for 2 separate part 1 oil consumption tests. 1st time it scraped by at 1 litre per 800 miles!!!! Shocking amount of oil to be using IMHO! However 6 months or so later its just been in again. Now using 1 litre every 400 or so miles!!!!!!!!!! I had the same flaming issue on my A4. Not sure that Audi can do anything but fix it to be honest. However its JUST out of warranty but its been fully Audi serviced from the start. Its back in this week for part 2 of the test before they say they will discuss it any further. I truly hope Audi stand tall and fix this. I have owned approx. 32 cars in my life some costing less that a good bottle of whisky yet have never guzzled oil like my Audis have. We feel extremely let down having had 2 cars from the same manufacturer have the same issue. That's me off Audis for good now. As soon as its fixed its gone. Its like running my old 2 stroke motorbike. Litre of oil every tank of fuel!!!!

Ahem, hello. This is a known issue with the twin-charge 1.4 litre 185bhp engine and has resulted in engines being replaced.

I've a 2013 build, registered in March 2013, and the engine was replaced in October 2013 due to high oil use, similar to yours.

So CHILL as this IS a known issue with this particular engine (pistons and/or breather issues) so go talk to your dealer.

Come back if I can help further.

My 'new' engine uses zero oil between services.

PS: I've 3-Audi and neither uses oil, period!

Hi all. So story so far. Wifes 2012 A1 1.4 TFSI (185) 24000 miles.

Here's what I found of the twin-charge motor pre-purchase:

"From what I can find out the issue with this 185bhp engine related to early examples having excessive lubricating oil use i.e., 1-litre/750-miles or so and this resulted in Audi UK/GmbH replacing a number of engines; these engines had the designation 'CAVE.'

This 'CAVE' engine was then revised (improved crankcase breather (?)) and became the 'CTHE' engine. The 'CTHE' engine was used in A1 production from late 2012."

My own engine was replaced by Preston Audi in October 2013 so make contact there if you need.

Apologies for not seeing your thread earlier...

Hope this helps...

Maybe you should call Audi Customer Service Team (0843 479 8663) and start a case on your particular car.

Update..... Audi took the car in and it failed both the part 1 and 2 tests. They have then done a 'fix' i.e. installed a repair kit. Which makes me think its a known issue. They have changed injectors , breathers, pipes and other odds and sods. Still cant see how this helps as the oil has to have been going somewhere i.e. past piston rings or leaking.

Anyway the car has been repaired and is getting the punt this weekend. This is the 2nd Audi I have had with excessive oil consumption. The 1st being my A4 2.0 TFSi Quattro.

The money I have spent on these 2 cars on oil alone must be into the hundreds. No more Audi for me back to BMW. Never had any issues there or with any other marque for that matter.

Bye bye Audi. :rage:

PLUS, not to forget: VW, SEAT, SKODA, Lamborghini, Bentley, Bugatti, and maybe a few more non-disclosed users of VW designed engines.

Sincere good luck with whatever is your replacement.
