8V S3 Tuning Thread

Thanks for excellent clarification!

V kind but I'm sure someone will explain it far better.

Hybrids like TTE make allow you to have the benefits of a larger stock turbo but with little of the hassle of a traditional big turbo build.

Better airflow, better maintained boost and torque and higher power without strangling the smaller turbo your car came with to death.

Simon can explain how they achieve that far better than I can.

Jb1 and Mtm are generally considered to be the best boxes.

Mtm, very easy to install/remove and you can get engine / drivetrain warranty.

Jb1, much better price and more configurable.

You can get flagged if you have the box on at workshop visit.

Never happened so far (what is known) that anybody got flagged with the box off.

Have done 8.8 with back seats removed and E30 ethanol mix.

9.0-9.2 fully trimmed on pump fuel.

Running Unicorn software and standard turbo.

hi... i just owned a 2015 S3 8v with S-tronic tranny, it has 4,000 km on the clock and pretty brand new... the last owner has installed Forge I/C, CTS INTAKE and MILLTEK Turboback Non-resonated.... he said the car is not tuned yet, since McChip-DKR unable to bypass the ECU (locked somehow by Audi)...

do i really need a tune? or it is fine to run the way it is now ? there is no CEL whatsoever....
thanks
Ted

hi Rogier,
yes, i will wait until January 2017, which they said the tune will be available (since there is only a handful of S3 in Indonesia). so with the I/C, TBE, DV and Intake, should I go for Stage 2 tune? correct?

Yes, you should reach between 380 an 410 hp with your setup.

True these new hybrids on newer cars are achieving Amazing results but one question I have that Si might be able to answer.

Great results Simon, awesome cars these are with those turbos! What sort of boost are they running if you don't mind answering?

These cars catching up so quick! My BT build now seems ancient with the 8L!

Really does vary tuner to tuner and set ups depending but many are 1.9-2.1 bar bracket

mine is pretty basic and is a tad faster than a RS3 8V. pretty impressive wee car.

3" Milltek cat-less DP and front pipe, centre box removed fitting onto standard back box with 2nd hand tuning box. VERY loud when flaps open but more or less standard noise when shut. I really like it.

Plan is tte525 or tte6xx this year, not decided yet.

My warranty expired in December but I've had it at stage one for well over a year. Always tuned my cars and a couple of times had cars in for warranty work and nothing has been said

Does anyone have any figures for gains given by a Milltek catback - looking at resonated and valved - I already have the sport cat D/P ?

Also is this a requirement for a big turbo upgrade stage 3 ?

oooh its ticking over in your head ins't it Rob! ;) go big or go home (stage 3 all the way!)

Cat back is necessary for big turbo @Rob2k68. The stock exhaust is restrictive.

Ive customers with stock cat back on TTE525R & TTE470

A free flowing exhaust will help numbers and id recommend, but not a 100% required as such.

This is what I'm pondering- the Revo stage 3 (when released) requires the catback. If the TTE470 does not then that's 1.5k towards it - does that then become the more affordable route ? Or do I just swallow the catback and do that first ? People have said there are little gains from the catback on stage 2.

Cant speak on others ideas.

Thing with our turbos is you custom tune to your hardware of choice with your preferred tuner. Ive just quickly scanned throught dyno sheets sand see TTE470 guys using stock intercoolers and stock exhausts some years ago. Even sumer last year i see MRC tuning S3 8V TTE525R and SKODA to 500+ approx on stock cat backs

Thanks Si - helps me to understand how it all works a bit more, need to read through your threads. TTE525 breaking 500 would be nice ;o) , any cost estimated in £ for 470 and 525 ? - is the original turbo taken in px ?

Made 341 bhp and 494NM.

I was a bit disappointed with the bhp but anyone else get similar results?

What's crazy is seeing these results for the hybrid turbo guys getting near mid 7 sec 100-200, the new M140i BMW is getting 8 seconds dead 100-200 times with just a JB4!! Those M140i's do not hang around

@AJ Jacob you should not be dissapointed with these results. Every dyno is different if you scan through the threads lots of people have had different dyno results from tuned cars. Thats even with the same modifications / set up. Each car and dyno will throw slightly difference results- Fact. Differences of 10-30bhp happen more often than you might think on the same types of cars.

The thing to remember is the difference between your stock numbers and your MTM Cantronic install.

You posted your stock car @ 285 BHP and 401NM (296 lbs)

Your MTM you posted @ 341 BHP and 494NM

That is very much inline with what MTM quote- 59BHP and 70NM gains. So if you want to just look at the headline numbers you have a greater increase in torque.

These results also clarify that secand hand / used MTM-Cantronic boxes transfered from the same vehicle type ( ie Golf R/ S3/ Cupra R etc) DO NOT require recoding to physically work! Something which has been very much misrepresented / ill advised by certain people/ companies.

Enjoy your car, and dont worry about headline peak numbers.

That is true. The M140i is really fast. But this is one of the ugliest cars.
