Hey guys,

Had a quick question about Audi Connect. The free trial I got with my new S3 is about to expire, is renewing as simple as buying a prepaid data sim card from somewhere like Three? Will this allow me to continue using Google Maps and the WiFi hotspot etc?

Or do I actually need to pay Audi to renew a subscription. Or both...?

Cheers :)

Pretty sure you need to renew with Audi. Did someone on here not get it extended for free, just by phoning them...?

Ha, you're right! Just had a web chat with someone from Audi UK who says they are currently extending the subscription for 12 months free of charge!

Useful in case anyone else is wondering :D

My sales guy said he could get mine extended for 12 months. I'm sending mine in for a really annoying noise coming from the drivers side door/window when it's wet and get him to extend it then..

Sorry to hijack, but what sort of noise mate? Mine is making an almost rattly noise, but us a bit knocky over bumps on that side, is yours similar to that?

Mine only makes a noise when it's wet for some strange reason but actually sounds like the window is loose and moves every time I hit a bump..

Will do! Calling them on Monday as it's driving me mad...living in the UK there's a high chance it'll be wetter rather than dry so it will continue to annoy me.. shouldn't expect it from a pricey ride!

Back on topic guys I had a live chat conversation with Audi customer services last night and the guy said extending it isn't a problem. He said he had to pass the details onto Audi Germany to sort it so fingers crossed.

I ordered my car a few weeks back and on yourAudi it says I have the 3 month free trial but also the 36 month subscription.... Anyone else has this?

From reading when I was looking at a FL... I think tech pack comes with the 36 month one? And non-tech pack gets the trial. But audi site probably just isn't smart enough to not show the trial if you have the proper 36 month one

Ah okay, that explains it. Thank you!

Did he say how much it would cost if you needed to? Just wondering if I can get them to add it on now.

Recently went through this, spoke to Audi via the chat feature and they raised a ticket with Audi (Germany ?).. took about a week and everything became available. I was a little annoyed by this as the previous car (8V S3 again) I had all of this with a Three Sim card and never had to buy any sort of licence. Put my SIM in the new car and sort of expected it to work :)

Thanks mate, I've got to go into the dealers this week to get the puddle lights fitted, will mention it to them then, if not I'll go through live chat.

I'd heard from my dealership that it would run indefinitely until Audi work out fees and how to charge customers, therefore currently people will get it extended free until it's all finalised.

I'm expecting mine to run out soon, I had a dig online and the data provider has asked for £99 a year for the service.. which I would never pay.

Sadly I don't have the tech pack so I won't benefit much, the only way I benefit is Google Satellite which is cool but otherwise it's a bit steep.

Just buy your own sim mate, get a pre loaded pay as you go one and from what's been mentioned in here it will continue to work. Agreed the data packages through Audi are horrific, got an EE sim with 6GB pre loaded for £15 from currys and lasts for 90 days.

How did you know it was going to expire? I just logged in to Audi Connect and there doesn't seem to be any expiry date... I bought my FL in September and haven't used a data plan or had it extended

If you specced the advanced tech pack you get 36 month data plan included, just set-up your Audi Connect account and good to go.

On the Audi Connect Issue, I've just fitted an EE sim giving 2gig a month for 6 months at a cost of £26 or roughly £1 a week. (Ebay)
On the noise issue, check out my previous post.
Have only treated the drivers window once in the last 14 months with Gummiphledge & it hasnt knocked since.

Sounds like the issue I had.
Try this, drive with window down slightly just off the seals. (along a line of cats eyes is a good test)
If it has stopped, treat all your window seals & door seals with gummiphledge or whatever its called, mines been quiet since.
I didnt believe the Audi tech who told me the glass moving against the rubbers was the cause, but it seems to have cured it. He showed me the following as an example..........
******rub the tip of your index finger down the side of your thumb slowly with your hand near your ear pressing quite firmly so the friction breaks occasionaly! The snapping noise you hear is the same phenomenon!********** This only works with dry skin, wet clammy skin wont produce the noise. Lick your thumb & try again!

Yes, that's the stuff. Its a creamy white liquid applied with a sponge tipped plastic bottle. I put some on the top edge of the glass itself to get inside the seals at the top of the door & used a thin plastic knife down the sides while the glass was lowered.
BMW sell their own, I later found some in the valet kit they give you when you go for the "paint protection option"

Is there anyway of checking if Audi have extended my access as they haven't confirmed this either way since I contacted them a few weeks ago? I do still have Google maps on my sat nav so without sounding dumb does this mean it has been extended after my original expiry date on 20th January?

No it doesn't mean your access has been extended as the maps are cached to the HD. If you drive somewhere you have never been you will be able to tell I guess

Yes you can check when the licences run out within the mmi system. On my car it is menu, audi connect, right control button...

As always this forum is perfect for any of my queries. I have just spoken on Live Chat on the Audi UK website. All I mentioned was that my 3 month trial was about to end, but I want to keep Google Earth as part of the maps and they have emailed the Connect Team to extend my license until the end of the year. Took me less than 10 minutes to sort out!

This is why I don't understand why people pay for the nav system, crazy when it's free.
