Project S3 FUM build .

Yes , the car is booked in at AKS in January to have the b16 kit fitted along with a few other things like short shift , braided clutch cable etc , the turbo will be fitted as funds allow after that , I am in. I rush just bought it because it was a good price , long term I will be getting the engine forged and trying for around the 450 ish bhp , the Loba xx4 has made 480 bhp with wmi so I know it's a very capable unit , I have a good few plans for 2017

I am being very daring here , been in touch with Nigel at BCS for a few weeks now and he is going to make me a WRC centre pipe delete complete with Helmholtz resonator , this will be the first one they have made on a non powervalve unit , so I am going to be a bit of a test bed for it , hopefully it is going to be Loud

Sounds good mate, I will be interested in hearing your thoughts on the short shifter as I'm wanting to do this myself at some point. I had forgotten that you said the turbo won't be fitted until funds allow for it, sounds like your S3 has a got a great year ahead of it! Looking forward in seeing the capabilities of the Loba xx4 turbo.

Fingers crossed! Considering that I've seen nothing but high praise from numerous happy customers and not a single piece of bad press about Nige and the rest of BCS, as well as their custom work on Alex's S3, then no doubt they'll work their magic again and you'll come away with a great big grin on your face.

What I liked was the amount of time that Nige and Dave were willing to put in on a project which probably wasn't going to make a lot of money, but did take a lot of time, and I appreciated that immensely.

They also both advised on what would and wouldn't work, and what would give the best results......it turned out to be a really good example of how to work with a customer,to get something right.

Nigel is just supplying me the delete pipe , I will get it swopped over with the BCS centre box pipe myself , just hoping it will sound louder but not drone , as I say they have not done one for the S3 8p as of yet so it could be interesting , I love my BCS system just want it louder

BCS WRC centre pipe delete just arrived

Just out of interest how much roughly is the full power valve exhaust system?

Mine was a custom build and came to £2.8k.

The stock design should be less.

Awsome project!
Helmholz, nice! interesting to see
There is no valve in the take off tube, it just has a blank end cancelling unwanted frequency at certain rpm, also used in F1 for wave tuning etc.

This might show it better....

I understand what it is was just mentioning there was no valve in the resonator tube.

Same...I just thought it might show it better.

Does that delete one of the boxes on the powervalve system? Presume it makes the system louder under boost?

It deletes the centre boxes , mine is not the powervalve either , it is their WRC delete pipe so yes it will be louder (i hope ) .

Should make it louder on idle too I'd have thought. Be interested to know the difference between the powervalve clamped open like mine and the WRC powervalve

It will be louder throughout , thats the idea, like I say my system is not the powervalve .

Bet yours is loud clamped open, I've been tempted to that to mine only for a week or two to see what it sounds like on the over run. Have you got one or two centre boxes?

It's twin centre box, sounds awesome on over run, get frequent pops and bangs. Can make it back fire every time at around 4K rpm. The powervalve combined with the Revo intake are the best things on the car

Is yours dsg or manual?

The beast is booked in with Alex and his Guys on Monday , B16 kit going on , Forge shortshift with 42DD full bush kit , braided clutch cable and push clutch to start delete .

Niiiice I will be especially interested to hear your thoughts on the Forge SS and 42DD kit as I'll be looking to do this as well, I have heard good things so far.

Ok, a long day at AKS yesterday but the B16 is on as is the Forge short shifts and braided clutch line plus updated bushes etc etc , gears are a lot more precise now and far better but 4th gear can still be at issue at very high revs , I know how to do so it's not too much of a problem , it's only at around 7000 rpm , ok the Loba turbo is not so good , Alex inspected it and found that the turbine and compressor wheels are quite tight to turn , now I know nothing about turbos so sent a couple of videos to BBT and they can also confirm it doesn't look right so I am not too chuffed tbh , the seller doesn't want to know and has been really awkward about it blaming everything under the sun on me , the unit has been sat in the box it arrived in since the beginning of December so not too sure what I could of done to it , a few people have suggested I try to free it up with some oil but I don't really want to touch it tbh , any views or opinions welcome .

Send the turbo to a specalist, they can strip right down and check for any further damage.

I am prepared to do that and have been in contact with BBT , they can strip it down and inspect , the trouble is I was sold it as in perfect condition , which it's not .

Sorry to hear you had an issue with a seller (i would call him something else but this is public forum).
As for issues with gearbox i have similar one with loba smf clutch, sometimes it is good sometimes it is bad, always 4th gear at the rev limit. Started shifting arround 6000 rpm and no issues since then but that is not a solution.
After a lot of research it seems that 02Q gearbox develops a play in the housing and it is noticable on smf kits.
the solution seems to be extending the input shaft and putting the pilot bearing on the end of it.
Take a look at the bar-tek.de they have pictures and description on their site.
Still didn't give it a go since i have other things to sort first.

Owen Developments may be able to help and calling Loba would be a good place to start.

If BBT can do the work and know Loba Turbo's then fine.

Hope it's not costly.

Thanks for information mate, I think that the following link is what you're on about: https://www.bar-tek-tuning.de/pilotlager-02m-getriebe-billetshaft

I will be getting my Spec 2+ clutch & steel SMF fitted when my stock clutch goes which will be sometime later this year, early next year I imagine as I'm at stage 2 now and the car has hit 60K. Already got a few bits I want doing at the same time such as short shifter, 42DD bushings, Fluidampr engine damper etc. so wasn't looking to spend anymore as I'm trying to save for stage 2+ parts. Guess I'll just have to see how I get on as not all SMF owners are reporting this problem, hope I'm one of the lucky one's but doubt it!

Yes that's the one!
If i remember correctly, pilot bearing is from dsg cars, and it costs less than 10€. From my research the part with the teeth needs extending about 5mm, and the part where goes pilot bearing about 25mm with the diameter of 15mm (that should be inner diameter of the pilot bearing). This should solve the issue with input shaft play which causes issues mostly with 4th gear.
there was a guy on vagoc (vagoc seems to be down) that said that this was his fix and that the gearbox is smooth again with fast and precise shifts.
I was going to try and fix my gearbox this way, and then could confirm it myself if this fix works or not but unfortunately i have bunch of other things to sort first.
Hope i didn't spam the thread, just wanted to share what i found after looking for a solution for a long time.

No problem buddy , if it's helps me and others I am all for advice , I may very well go down that route , like I say it's not too bad but it can definitely catch you out if your not ready for it , as for the turbo BBT seem happy to look at it and I am guessing most turbos are similar in the design and function , they have said £65 plus vat to strip and examine and another £60 if it requires new bearings and seals so doesn't sound too bad , the seller is going to pay for the inspection .

Just to add George's push clutch to start delete cable is brilliant , so much nicer not having to press the clutch in the start the car , going to drop the front down a bit more as it's still slightly higher than I want at the mo.

Only silver lining being at least you'll have peace of mind when it's on the car and all sorted it will be working ok rather than it causes problems and you having to pay someone endless amount hours to diagnose things along with possible wasted journey to r-tech and so on. Sorry to hear about the turbo though always a gamble element with buying second hand parts and lot of trust from the buyers side that what turns up will be as described.

When it's all fitted and making good power and your grinning from ear to ear you'll forgot about hiccups along the way.
