Thinking about an APR Stage 1 tune alongside a TCU upgrade. Anyone give any reviews on the TCU? Reading the blurb on the APR website it seems to tick all the boxes, but not seen many reviews or comments on here about it. Search didn't bring up anything either!

First things that stand out are the smoother changes, the mad kickdown in Auto, the nice drivability in manual, and the ferociousness in Dynamic when letting all the horses loose!

Ah... and I didn't get the bogged down moment when dropping from 6th to 2nd at our left hand 90° corner which leads into a super long 100mph straight.

It really is so much better

I have DSG tune. It massively improves the stock D and R modes.

The initial take off is slightly improved. Hard to say if gear changes faster as so fast stock anyway.

I believe APR tcu tune fantastic at coping with increased torque, many have it even with stage 3 custom tunes.

If you use the driving modes it's well worth it but if you're driving around in manual mode prob not worth it.

Great info, thanks! From what the description said, it looked like what I was after but glad to get real world feedback. Both mods are at the top of my to do list! It does all sound warranty voidingly good!:nogarors4::whip:

Apr stage 1 and the tcu upgrade is like a marriage made in heaven, with these two alone i did a 1/4 in 11.9 secs

Not to mention the smooth kickdowns and no worry of dsg slip !

My god! Great figures! Nobody give one for their warranty? Bold moves! But sounds worth it for a sub 12s car just with software! I'm guessing if alls well and you wana trade, you can just reflash and they'll only know if they plumb it in and go searching. Just gotta hope ur box doesn't split or block throws a leg before that!

Some of the figures guys are running through stock on here is immense, i always think there's gotta be the one guy who got a lemon that scares me! Who got the motor built on a Friday aft?! :disrelieved::tearsofjoy:

outstanding behaviour. Im now perusing the local dealers to find best options. APR/Revo/Custom...this forum is a wealth of knowledge!

Curious to know what the drivability is like if I'm taking my mother for a Sunday drive.

I'd quite like a ECU remap + TCU remap, but I do a ton of long boring journeys in heavy traffic or in areas where speed is not appropriate, and I don't particularly want to be going around in 2nd gear if I'm not actively taking an interest.

It's as you'd want it... serene and quiet - but once you drop her off you can unleash the beast

I hear great things about Unicorn devs! But if a trek for me in hampshire tho .

Just checked with my insurance (axa) and they won't cover me at all if I remap my S3!! No premium increase, just flat out refuse!! I've only just renewed in December aswell!! Means I'll have to get some quotes from elsewhere I guess. No doubt il be fleeced getting out of my current policy:cry:

Il give a few of the insurance sponsors on here a call and see what the diff is.

Tuning wise I've heard good things on here about Storm Developments down this way so may give them a buzz.

How much you charge for a stage1 ecu and tcu Rick? I can PM if that's better.

Cheers

I'm Revo stage 2 ECU and TCU stage 1 it's epic totally transformed the car.

Stage 2 Downpipe and intercooler? What kind of numbers you running off that??!

Yep full mods in sig - I've had a few dyno runs with massively varying bhp figures but torque is pretty consistent at 540Nm/400lbft.

Ah soz I'm reading on my phone an there's no sigs, will check later. Good figures tho! 540 is enough to push your spine through ya seat at least! Imma prob go Stage 1 first and get a good feel, maybe some arb's bushes and coils. Ever tracked yours @Rob2k68 ??

No need to apologise mate just thought I'd forget some if I tried to remember them all LoL. If viewing on a phone turn it 90 degrees to landscape then you'll see people's sigs- works on an iPhone anyway!

I was stage 1 for 15,000 miles definitely do that first as you may not need any more. Also pretty soon after I upgraded the brakes and fitted Eibach springs with uprated ARBs front and rear. Some say car only benefits from having the rear ARB changed.

Never tracked it and probably never will it's my daily drive but a fun one at that

90 deg iPhone works wonders!

I've heard the arb speil too. Will still prob get both if anything for a free sticker :tearsofjoy:

I'm liking the look of the AP BBK too, but sadly SWMBO reckons buying a new house is more important than coils an 6 pots at the mo. :triumph: Can prob squeeze Stage 1 an tcu under the radar tho :tonguewink:

I think best bet for you is stage 1 ecu/tcu tune with TT inlet pipe with Rick. I believe that's about $950 all up. Results generally 375hp 400lbs.

Cheers bud. I'm about 200 mile from Rick is all, so will prob get some quotes round here, and do some recon on service and feedback etc. if nothing seems right then it could be worth the trip up as I know the feedback for @Rick @ Unicorn Motor Dev. is great. Plus road trip etc. :tongueclosed:
