Carista App Now Avaliable For the 8V A3/S3 - PFL & FL Covered

I think I might be misunderstanding you... but if you have auto lights and wipers... then they should do that already when it gets dark?

If you mean high beam assist, then yes, that's a different sensor

I don't know what i mean! haha! just been fiddling with Carista and this option came up! It says "auto-headlights" Headlights are full beam.... So now i should have Auto Headlights right? I have auto lights, so dipped lights and so on but just not auto headlights..... unless thats what High Beam Assist is?

Pics attached to explain option added.

That 'activation time' bit looks very similar (from memory) to what I have and I have high-beam assist from factory

But I don't think yours will work without you having the required sensor on the back of the mirror base

I think it has allowed you to enable it in the MMI despite not knowing which sensors you have fitted to the car

I mean the automatic lights, when it gets dark they come on automatically, normal stuff. Just thought the Auto Headlights might be a separate sensor?it was when i had the Mokka. some had auto lights & wipers but not auto headlights as where separate systems. So as i have auto lights & wipers in the A3 & i have now activated auto headlights then my headlights should come on automatically when dark enough right?
If you have Auto wipers from factory then you had Auto Headlights also, so you have activated something which was already activated :)

Very interesting guys cheers. I do have auto wipers and lights from factory. I didn't have that option on the MMI shown above and almost 100% sure i didn't have Auto-Headlights before Carista added that option. Iv just been out down a dark road and headlights didn't come on automatically. strange one! Just gone through the Audi blurb and Beam Assist is only available on Xenon lights. I have Halogen. But i was hoping it did exactly what Audi says Beam Assist does, ie: turns on headlights when dark and then off when cars approaching or light is picked up.

This is what I saw / noted when I tested a little today:

IMG 5228
  • Beep when locking / unlocking was active on my car via VCDS so this is not reading the configurations correctly.
  • Beep when locking / unlocking menu should rear "menu for configuring beep on lock only"

IMG 5229
  • Refuel quantity = VW and Skoda only, should be removed
  • Allow oil temp display via MMI should read "via DIS" and via MMI is impossible. This does not take in to account virtual cockpit which has this active by default even on non S cars.
IMG 5230
  • Needs to be changed to Early, Late and I forget the 3rd option.

If you have Auto Lights and Auto Wipers then you will also have a headlight switch with an Auto position, which is where the switch needs to be for the lights to work on their own. For auto wipers to work you need to be in Auto + move the wiper stalk in to position 1 and leave it there. If you don't have an auto position light switch then you don't have auto lights. The Switch also needs to be in Auto for Coming Home and Leaving Home Lights to work.

High beam assist is something completely different. This feature uses a sensor mounted in the front of the mirror housing in order to detect light sources in front of the car and in turn switches off your high beam automatically in order to not blind on coming traffic.

All of the above are dependant on hardware in order to work and cannot be activated via adaptation or coding alone.

You have Auto Lights, Wipers and Coming Home / Leaving Home lights from the factory. No additional coding needed. Carista did not detect this. Not very polished :(

I think we are getting confused here on terminology! Auto Lights are as you described above and not what I'm on about!! Im on about "headlights" or "full beam", whatever you like to call them! haha! AutoLights (in the auto position, yes i have all that you mentioned!) does not include Auto headlights on my car! So.... Using Carista, it added the option shown in the photo above which is "Auto Headlights"!!! what does this mean? i take it nothing!

Wait... do you have an auto position switch but until you used carista to activate "auto lights" your headlights did not come on automatically?

If that's correct then there was a fault with your car because you only get an auto position switch if you have auto headlights, wipers and ch/lh lights.

Tried it out! Few things didn't work, but I've let them know so hopefully they can sort it

Some nice features on the beta!
which items didnt work and what do you mean by beta? is this not the full version?

If, they manage to accomplish disable of start/stop engine in a software version update with no bugs. I will buy it in a heartbeat. It would be great to have the option on after starting the engine to push the start/stop button to enable start/stop not the other way around

had a play with the new v3.3 and the disable auto start/stop worked but i prefer mine on , when i dont want it to switch of i come of the brake as soon as i stop otherwise it will cut off, only other time i dont like it is when i put it in park it switches off so just quick reach to the A switch and it ok . i hope they can come up with a mod where the start/stop option is disabled when you switch car on

weird how its an option on carista , needs removing because it got me excited for no reason :pensive:
Unfortunately its inclusion kinda proves that things are not being fully tested by the developers. Most people assume that what works on an A3 8V will work on a Golf mk7 and vice versa, and for the most part things indeed do but there are features which are straight up not supported, examples:
  • Refuel Quantity
  • Acceleration Display
  • Battery Condition Display
  • Heater Level Display while in Auto Mode
  • Compass Display Position
From what I have been reading however it seems that they have pretty much nailed the support of older vehicles and people are not really having any issues :) I really think the developers need to add descriptions and prerequisites to the listed customisations tho. Enabling something like Auto lights when you don't have the hardware is not gonna work. "Fair enough, gave it a go" one might say... but in doing so you will prolly wipe your 55 - range control module and need to recalibrate it lol.

Think there is confusion... From what I read @Ormesome is simply referring to high/full beam as 'headlights'? As opposed to dipped beam then main beam.

Hence saying the 'headlights' didn't come on automatically on a dark road, I think he means his full beam did not come on? Which as you say is high beam assist, and requires extra hardware.

I don't think I really can / should say which items since they are in the beta and not officially released for the general public. A beta is pre-release test stage that I opted in to. If you did not opt in, then you have the normal regular version. The beta has the new features (which you will eventually get in the next update) and I signed up to test them before they are released and provide feedback.

I think they do need to work on this a bit. I think all cars with the same 'platform' show the same set of customisations regardless of hardware in the specific cars. Example is my S3 and a family member's Leon Cupra (same generation and platform) showed the exact same stuff, despite some things probably not working on the other car and vice versa.

Overall I think it is a good app for what it is / what you pay. For simple stuff like I want to enable it works great.

I was confused about what this option did so spoke to them and it seems we (me and you) both thought it is the time delay for high beam assist? They confirmed it is in fact the sensitivity of the dark/light auto lights (dipped beam).

"The "Auto headlights activation threshold" refers to how dark it must be outside for the headlights to activate. You can change that threshold."

This is good to know. I will now definitely stay more alert of this sort of thing. Not that I'd intentionally go enabling stuff I simply know I don't have hardware for anyway as that would be pointless... but it is a good reminder to be wary :)

High beam assist is either installed or not, and then switched on via the MMI so I figured it was for Auto lights activation threshold :)

Who knows.. Lots of very similar terms for very different things ha

That snippet quote in post #98 is what I received from them on their facebook page when I queried that option.

Indeed "headlights" are referred to as Main/Full beam etc... in the UK. Sorry i assumed you where from the UK or understood this term. In the MMI it refers to "Auto headlights" hence why when i activated this via the Carista app, i thought it then gave me Auto headlights like High Beam Assist. Would have been good if it did. Hope my 1st post made more sense now we know the terminology! Would it be best to disable it as it will never work on my car without the proper hardware?

Very misleading term used by Audi and Carista.

I am from the UK :) The way I understand it is Headlights = the two main lighting clusters on the front of a vehicle, which most commonly contain:
  • Dipped Beams
  • High Beams
  • Turn Signals
  • Daylight Running Lights (these days)
  • All weather lights (for adaptive and LED type Lighting)

i had a go in my other car a vw polo and was suprised it had even more cool things i can enable ,they shouild really enable everything as standard , gonna try the micra next :hubbahubba:

One wish list for Carista would be to enable the MMI Wheel scroll direction to be changed! i still scroll the wrong way every time i use it! so annoying!

Any other developments in the pipeline?

Both of these would be firmware related unfortunately.

Does Carista allow you to place the oil temp on all DIS screens an a FL S3?

Not sure about all screens but definitely on the digital speedo (Non VC) DIS screen, not checked the rest yet as literally just done it now!

Slight worry when i was fiddling with the app this morning, forgot to take out the Carista dongle thingy, went to start the car (within the same session as doing mods via the app) , she took at least 4-5 seconds to start the engine. She's not done it before this or since. It was a bit strange & i did fear the worst whilst it was turning over! guess the car was in a certain mode! i remember now something about having to save the setting and turn off ignition when finished?

I enabled the 'dip mirror on reverse' but although it dips the mirror ok, when I come out of reverse, it points my mirror skyward well above the original position...is there something I'm missing?

I have seen that a few times before. Shouldn't be like that. This is actually a supported feature you can enable with instructions from Audi.
I will report this to the developers when I see it again.

On that note I can tell you that the next version 3.4 will include a lot of new features and fixes. It's still in beta. So far it looks good and the support for A3 8v will only increase.

Brill...thanks. If my memory is correct, I think to set up the option by the VCDS you need to set both positions or something like that so maybe I'm missing a step that has been documented...or i could have made that up entirely??

Any hints/clues of some of the options coming up?

Thanks again :)
