I'm a CAD Technician, currently working in the energy sector
I trained in that and got my city and guilds 4351 whatever it is but never really took to it. Preferrerd machining and tooling more.
It's all I know. I enjoyed it more when I worked in construction with it. Designing buildings, setting out foundations etc.

Cool. What part of the energy sector is it, renewable? I'm imagining that you do block diagrams and library drawings. Line, point to point, offset, fillet radius, chamfer, array. That hurt, 19 years ago since I got my qualification and 16 since I last used solid modelling.
Do you work with the fuzz then when someone has a crash then? Lots of thens in this post but sure.
No, although I've been told by a friend who is retired fuzz- he says I missed calling!
I work for a regional Transport Authority and work closely with Police on a day to day basis. Police role is purely investigation and prosecution. My job takes it it a step further to prevention and recommending changes.
Like lamp posts and such like to close to the side of a road. There's a big wooden one right on the edge of the road by the grass verge on the way to work and the road is that bumpy that I'm surprised nobody has collected it by now. It's amazing all what's involved in the investigation especially with fatalities occurring. Keep up the good work.
Thanks. Our transport infrastructure is crumbling and outdated - posts on the outside of bends etc. are a no no these days. Need to vote for politicians that'll spend on roads. When we ask local councils to change things they struggle to find the money. Spend more on British roads I say!

A road was closed the other day 'cause they were putting paths in outside a village , good yeah , I've never seen anyone walking that way , it's remote , total waste .
Another town , the paths outside were resurfaced , there was nothing wrong with them !
A road and paths were justifiably resurfaced in a town centre , a litter bin on a 4x wide path near two takeaways ( one opens till the early hours for nice drunken people) was taken away and absent for two years , the council finally replace it on the opposite path which is single file...

Hi all
Back to owning an Audi after 8 years away. I run a Derbyshire based website and web application company. Much of our work comes from America as some software I wrote a few years ago is rather popular over there.

Sounds about right - it's called politics (or where politics overules sound engineering advice).
Where I live it's a Tory controlled council. The roads in the Labour wards (always Labour) are shocking and rarely have any money spent on them unless they are probably about condition 10 (out of 10). Regardless of which party controls them too many councils out there operate in this way = spend on things that win votes for councillors in the right area.
The sad thing is it's the council staff that have to justify these decisions they have no control of. Politics and transport don't mix well.
Sounds pretty cool - do you get to travel much or is everything done virtually these days?

Yeah all remote these days although I will get an all expenses trip to California some how. Skype makes it no different to working with a local company, apart from the time zone difference hence some late nights working.
Company Director( joiner) in our family business which was originally in building and costuction but now leases domestic and commercial properties .

The company I worked for was taken over a couple of months ago by Virgin Media Buisness. Everything's the same I just get Virgin TV, Phone and Broadband for less than what I was paying BT for line rental
