Hi all,

I'm thinking about to buy one of them (genuine), but I don't have the decision taken... so I would like to read your opinions about both... because it seems by price/functionalities VCP is a better option, but I don't find the same level of information in Internet than VCDS, and I don't know if with VCP I can do the same at long coding and adaptions.

Regards,
Mike.

If you're after alternatives I also looked closely at OBDeleven and Carista. I chose Carista as my existing elm 327 bluetooth dongle worked and I used it on my EPB today to fit new rear discs and pads. The app included charging the battery.
While I was playing with the interface and options I added needle sweep on start up. Plenty more to check out. The others seem more in depth and for me, greater opportunity to completely trash my Q5.

Hello Allroader,

Thanks for your reply, I'm iPhone user and ODBEleven isn't available. Carista is available but in the vehicle list for the custom modifications my car (A3 8V FL) doesn't appear :(

So my options are closely to workstation software like VCDS and VCP.

Regards,
Mike.

If you must by soon then go VCP as it full supports the MQB and MLB platforms. Be warned though as it's not very user friendly. If you can wait then hang on for a bit. VCDS does not fully support the FL MQB and MLB platforms due to limitation within the Hex-CAN cables. Hex-NET does but costs a lot. There is a new Hex-CAN type cable in development.

Thanks for your reply DJAlix, I can wait, the main reason to buy one of these cables is because I have in mind to do some retrofits, in concrete rear view cam and side assist.

How many time you believe that the new HexCan cable will be available? btw, Hex-Net is fully compatible with A3 8V FL?

Regards,
Mike.

Am not sure how long it's going to be to be honest. The new cable has been mentioned a few times on the Ross-Tech forums by the staff but no further details have been given. Hex-Net is fully compatible as it does not have the same hardware limitations as the hex-can. The application is not fully up to date with all the MQB labels as yet but will get there with future updates.

Thanks for your information, it's very helpful.

Regarding the software update for the complete MQB platform labels, do you have any information?

Mike.

Typically this will be an ongoing process which see's new information added with each update. Ross-Tech is not supplied with the needed information / labels by VAG so its as and when "things" are worked out that they are added to the application. Using the MQB platform as an example, A3 8V pre facelift, this was first supported within VCDS v12.x. This was approx 3 years ago and VCDS labeling is yet to be fully completed as of todays version of v16.8.3.1.

Re the ETA on the new cable, I read a staff comment on the Ross-Tech forum today that stated early 2017.

Thank you very much, I will wait for this new HEX-CAN cable :) and I hope that the labels will be completed at the same time :D I have a lot of curiosity in order to "play" with the coding knowing the thing that I touch reading the label.

Mike.
