Hello,

I have an issue with my A4 Avant B9 MY17 that has the MIB2 navigation (standard navigation with SD-card).
The car has been sold with the ability of adding custom lists of POI into the navigation system. Very useful to put fixed radars on the map or maybe gas stations that are compatible with a certain fuel card, ....

To be able to do that, you must login to my.audi.com and click on the Special Destinations tab from where you can upload a list of custom POI. Afterwards you can see the uploaded POI to appear in a list.
So once uploaded there are 2 options:
- Send the POI directly to the vehicle, which happens through the Audi Connect dataconnection.
- Download the files to an SD-card trough a kind of java application and then put the card into the car.

So that all goes fine and strictly by the book. Then comes the ****** part and everything i try fails (for all good understanding: my data connection in the car is working and it also appears online. Sending navigation destinations works fine, google maps works fine, etc. The 'Special Destinations' feature appears even appears as "enabled".)

-> Importing the POI into the car requires a 'software update' in the car. By doing this 'update' the POI will be imported. When you have send the POI to the vehicle throug my.audi.com, you should have to choose 'Online Update'. This returns an error to me: 'No access to the update server'.

So i tried the option of downloading the POI the SD-card through the my.audi.com website. I correctly get the metadata2.txt and the package folder in the root of the SD-card (formatted) as they point out in the instructions. When trying to update from SD-card the system says: "The update data is not compatible or outdated". Note that importing the POI should even work without an Audi Connect subscription using this method.

I tried to explain my issue to the dealer but they don't know anything about it, they never heard about it before (offcourse) and it looks like they don't care too.

Can anyone try to add a list of POI and see what happens? Does anyone have the same issue?
I really like the car apart from this (and the sport seats which are far less than the ones i had in my previous citroen, i'm still searching for the ideal position as they make my back hurt within 5 minutes and one hour after i get out ^^).

Thanks!

You might be best calling Audi UK (rather than local dealer) and explaining your issue as they can escalate if necessary. Alternatively I think I've seen some posts about this on a German forum? Try using Google translate and digging around

You may also want to look at the following thread (and my last post http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/speed-camera-poi.248853/page-4#post-2821011)

I have been using the pocketgpsworld database subscription and the app provided by mcaddy for my A3 and now for my new A4 (both with connect) . The app creates the required folder on an SD card directly from the app after it logs in to pocketgpsworld (using your userid)to retrieve the camera locations. Prior to this I used to manually update the POIs in My Audi which was a chore.

Subscription to pocketgpsworld is £20/year.

Hi I've downloaded the McAddy app and purchased a subscription to Pocket GPS world. Camera POI saved to the SD Card using the app but my car states that they are outdated or in the incorrect format. Have you managed to get this working in an Audi A4 B9 - MY2016?
If so - any pointers appreciated.

I might be wrong but I think owners do not have access to any mmi update servers, only the dealership can perform this as far as I understand...

A word of warningi f you are thinking of driving abroad. In many European countries it is illegal to use satnav/gps devices that have speed camera location warning. It can result in a hefty fine and confiscation of the device. If the device Cant be removed from the car then it could result in your car being impounded. This was the reason given when I asked why built in satnavs don't have camera warnings like you get on portable ones.

Thanks for the warning. OK an aware of the implications abroad but seeing as I'm not using the car outside of the UK, I can see no reason not to do this.

Can't get the app to work so I downloaded camera POI and uploaded the GSX files into My Audi Special Destinations... Will see how this looks in the car tomorrow.

Seeing as all cars with built in sat nav also warn you of speed camera's how on do they police it, and, if they did, it would result in the seizure of thousands of cars. I would say they probably turn a blind eye...

Yes it worked fine on my A4 B9 which has Audi Connect. I just let the app build the SD card and then ran the System Update from the MMI. Took about a minute to load the details.

All cars with satnavs don't warn of cameras. That's why we have this thread. I don't know about every make but Audis don't and neither do Mercedes and BMW for this very reason. It's only portable satnavs like TomTom and Garmin that have the camera warnings.

Not all cars have the "feature" but some do. I know all Toyota's have this as does my wife's 2016 Renault. The Toyota would disable camera's when driving through France for the reasons mentioned above - but warnings worked in the UK.

So I have exactly the same issue with my vehicle and get the same error via SD card - whether i use the mcaddy app as suggested in this thread or using the myaudi method. Very frustrating.

I also tried sending to car but the online update fails saying "unable to access update medium" or something along those lines yet I can view my online contacts and all other online services are working.

Fords do and have done for many years, however perhaps CGaggia has the solution.

Nope I don't have the solution as unfortunately I'm unable to import my Audi Special Destinations into the car... Looks like it's going to require a visit to the dealer

I was actually referring to what you said about the camera warnings being turned off depending on which country you're in. Entirely possible with the A4..

Well as the A4 doesn't have camera warnings it's a bit of a moot point however if one were to uploaded only UK cameras as custom POI and then turn on notifications when near to these POI it would work in a similar fashion... if only I could get the custom POI into the MMI..

Can you make the nav notify you near certain POI?

Can you make the nav notify you near certain POI?

I believe you can yes. Will have to check in the car for exact location but if I recall correctly there's an option under Navigation Settings called Arrival Notifications and you can choose which POI you want to be notified of when nearby.
The idea is to get the camera entries in and the switch notifications on for them.

Unfortunately I seem to be having the same problem - keep getting "The update data is not compatible or outdated". Any news on a solution perhaps? Very frustrating!

Audi UK referred me to my local Audi Dealership who in turn offered to test on a demo model and promised to get back to me, only to tell me afterwards that they think it's doable but can't tell me as what I'm trying to do may be illegal. I'm trying to import speed cam data so they day that they are going to first seek permission from Audi UK.... Felt more like they were fobbing me off. Ridiculous really. Has nothing to do with what I'm trying to import but more the fact that the service does not work. I'll be following up with them again this week.

Thanks for getting back! But oh dear, that sounds like a nightmare and they are just dodging away from the issue. I have raised my query with my local audi earlier yesterday, I'll see what they say.

My audi dealer contacted me back yesterday. Some time ago i reported this issue and also the fact that the curtain in the trunk of my A4 Avant doesn't always come back down when closing the trunk. They told me that they found the solution for the curtain in the trunk (something to do with the system going in standby when it shouldn't) and also they have an experimental software update for the MMI to evaluate if it solves the problem of the POI. Next Friday i'm scheduled for service, it will take 1,5 hours to update they said.

Thanks for the update. Do let us knowmhow you get on. My dealer has yet to get back to me ...

Unfortunately today I'm facing with the dame issue. I tried to add the poi whitout success, same error both via sd and online. In Italy si legal have the poi installed. If someone solve the issue please share.
Thanks
Filippo

So just tried this using the PocketGPS GarminPOI download and then pushing the update to the car over the air. Ran an update on the MMI and downloaded the custom POI files and bingo - worked first time. Have it set to alert me when I'm near to each of fixed / mobile / average cameras.

Not sure why some are working and others are not.

Hmm I tried it as a test and never got anything - but it was a crude test I admit, will try it some more with different POI's

Hi, mjcourtney, what model year if your A4 also what software version is your MMI on? I don't understand why some of us are having a problem with this nor why Audi are not prepared to assist. Really frustrating.

Mine is a MY17 - picked it up yesterday. MMI Software version 0678

A4 Version 2
A4 Version 1

I did the following procedure

1) Downloaded the Garmin POILoader speed camera file from PocketGPS:

PocketGPS Garmin POI

2) Extract the Zip file

3) Sign into http://my.audi.com and create a custom POI list for each of the Fixed, Mobile, Average and Red Light categories (uploading both the CSV data file and the BMP/Icon file for each category).

My Audi POI
4) Click 'Send to Vehicle'

5) On the MMI I then went to Settings -> System Maintenance -> System Update -> Online Update

A4 System Update

6) The POI Updates appeared as 'MyAudi Special Destinations'. Click download

A4 POI Update

7) Back to SatNav settings and then Map Content - select 'MyAudi special destinations'

Map Content

8) Select the POIs - and they then appear on the map.

MMI POI

No idea if that will work for everyone, but it worked for me.

Thanks for confirming. I'm MY16... I am beginning to think that maybe the feature isn't supported for our MY. Poor show from Audi. I chased my dealer for a response again this week and received no reply... Not the kind of service I'd expect from a premium brand.

This feature has worked on A3s for years - so I think it should be supported on MY16 A4s - it may however be a software glitch that needs addressing on MY16 models.

On what platform (mobile, laptop etc) do you download the zip file?
Is there any chance you could do a detailed step-by-step guide for the less tech savvy please?
Thanks

@mjcourtney - worked perfect for me in a test. Now to source speed camera POI's

I'll give it a go. I am using Windows 7 and Chrome.

Things you will need:
1) Your http://my.audi.com account linked to your A4
2) A PocketGPS World subscription (£20 a year)
3) Optional SD Card if Over The Air (OTA) updates don't work

Step 1: Register / Sign in to your account at www.pocketgpsworld.com.

Step 2: Download the PocketGPS World database from http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Cameras. You will need to set the SatNav System to 'Garmin POILoader' and the Camera Selections to 'Consolidated By Type'. No voice pack required.

PocketGPS Garmin POI

Step 3: Open the Zip file that was downloaded in Step 2 (called something like 'pgpsw-speed-cams-xxxxxxxx.zip'

POI Zip file

Step 4: Extract all the files to a folder on your computer

Extract Zip file

Step 5: Login to your http://my.audi.com account and browse to the 'Audi Connect' section.

Step 6: Click on 'MyAudi Special Destinations'

My Audi Special Destinations
Step 7: Click on 'Add Personal POI'

Step 8: Enter 'Fixed Speed Cameras' in the POI Name field. Click on 'Upload List' and navigate to the folder where you extracted the Zip file in Stage 4. Select the 'pocketgps_uk_gatso.csv' file and click 'Open'

.Add Fixed Speed Camera CSV

Step 9: Click on 'Select Different Icon' and then select 'pocketgps_uk_gatso.bmp' - click 'Open'

Fixed speed camera icon

Step 10: Click 'Save'. The Fixed Speed Camera POIs now appear in the list on the MyAudi Special Destinations page

POI Added
Step 11: Repeat Steps 7 to 10 for each of the Mobile, Average and Red Light cameras - selecting their respective icons each time (if you have a pmobile.csv file you can ignore this if you wish as it is unconfirmed cameras)

Step 12: Once all POIs are added click on 'Send to Vehicle', or 'Download' if you wish to save the data to an SD card to load into the car manually.

All POIs added
Step 13: A confirmation message should display if it was successfully sent to the vehicle / downloaded.

Completed
Step 14: In the car - Press Menu -> Settings -> then press the Left Menu Button -> System Maintenance -> System Update

System Update

Step 15: If you sent the POI updates to the car from MyAudi.com then select 'Online Updates'. If you're using an SD card then put the card into a slot in the glove box and select the corresponding card in the menu.

Step 16: I've only tried Online Updates, but I imagine the SD Card update follows a similar procedure. Select the 'MyAudi Special Destinations' update from the list.

A4 POI Update

Step 17: Once the update has run switch back to Nav / Maps mode on the MMI (assuming there were no errors).

Step 18: Press the right menu button and select 'Map Settings' -> 'Map Content'. Scroll down to 'MyAudi Special Destinations'

Map Content

Step 19: Tick all the boxes to show all categories of speed cameras

MMI POI

Step 20: That's it. Speed Camera POIs should now show on your maps. You can optionally set the MMI to alert you when you're close to the POIs in the Navigation Settings (can't remember exactly where at the moment). In my limited trial the alerts only pop up within 100 yards of the cameras - so not a huge amount of notice if you're doing a decent speed!

I've probably missed something - so feel free to add to this!

Also, Step 12 - I forgot to say you need to tick / select all the POIs before clicking 'Send to Vehicle' - otherwise it just sends nothing to the car.

If you need files to update via SD please let me know. I can share them for you to test.

That's exactly what I have tried with my MY16 ... unfortunately it just does not seem to work with early MY16 vehicles.

For those that have been following this thread, I received the following reply from the Audi Service Centre today which I just have to share as I am gobsmacked by the response...

"I have spoken with a trainer at Audi and they are unsure about the moving of POI to the inbuilt satellite navigation.

I will refer your enquiry to our service department as I have not found an answer.

My concerns include the potential of corrupting the navigation hard drive and Audi do not advocate the use of speed camera detection systems and I am a representative of Audi.

Please do not think you are being fobbed off, the enquiry was referred to me but I feel unable to answer this.

I have personally spoken to people that I thought may be able to help but they share my concerns about corruption of the system as we are trying to put a non-Audi Approved upload onto your car. I agree with your point regarding the import of the file, but that might be because it’s a non-recognised source."

Seriously?

Where to from here... what would you suggest were you in my shoes?

They're getting hung up on the legality of the speed camera issue (even tho it is perfectly legal in the UK). I would reply back and point out that the downloading of custom POI is a feature provided by Audi and, regardless of what POIs you try and add, it doesn't work.

Collected my MY17 today and have experienced exactly the same problem CGaggia. Tried OTA and SD card, both fail. I've tried it with Windows, Safari, Chrome and Firefox. Tomorrow I will try to download POIs other than speed cameras.
