Facelift 8V Black Edition

I really hummed and hawed over the "Black Optics Package" prior to placing my order September 1st.( available in Canada at that date ) If it had been a black honeycomb design like the RS3 a with a chrome surround I would have taken it in a flash. The standard front fascia (grill/air vents) with chrome removed and replaced in black in my opinion makes it look similar to an A3, even from a short distance and therefore not enough distinction.
Just my thoughts.

Eh...that must have been top dollar surely?! That's so god damn pricey given 8k down. Sack that.

I'm looking, or well hoping rather, that for a 39k S3, 2k down over 4 years and 8k miles per annum, then no more than 500 a month. No idea if that's unrealistic now going from your quote above

Why do those wheels look different versus Audi Canada website?

Those have triangle shaped spokes versus parallel double spokes on website.

Those wheels are only available with US "Black Optics Package".....Canadians get the five parallel double spokes 19" wheels only, regardless of package.

Have a look at the Canadian configurator for the S3 saloon and look at the loaded Technik package and add the few options that are available, add S2,000.00 for delivery.....multiply that figure by 0.62 and you will have sterling. .....Please make sure that you have a crying towel handy. I can assist you in your immigration process :whistle2:

Had the same thoughts with Black Optics package. I don't mind the black front grill and rear diffuser, but lack of the brushed aluminium mirrors make it look too similar to the A3.

Good to finally see some pics of North American cars, can't wait to get mine in December (here in Toronto).

Doesn't matter if it is more similar to the A3, the S3 is part of the A3 family anyways...but the black optics package make the car look so much better than with the stanard chrome.

I mean, if one really wants it to be different, get the RS3, the S3 shares the same bumper as the A3 S-line anyways...

The FL Black Optics doesnt have the silver finish wing mirrors ?

The PFL Black Optics here retains the silver finish wing mirrors, only the grill, window surrounds and rear diffuser trim is piano black.

I dislike honeycomb grills - had it on my GTI and a biatch to keep clean and looks dated. Just as fake chrome looks dated.

Not in Canada, the black optics package changes the mirrors to body colour.

Well if you like the black optics otherwise, rather easy to change the wing mirrors to silver aftermarket.

Personally, the fake chrome effect just looks so dated

It doesn't just look dated...it looks very cheap as well. It looks extremely plasticy last time I saw an S3. I'd much rather get body-colored mirror caps. Carbon fiber is another option.

The silver mirror caps are an S trademark though.

CF is as dated as chrome (I wasn't referring to the silver caps btw but the chrome trim in the grill and window surrounds)

Thought about body colour caps when we ordered but wife said silver and I do agree, as I should :)

I totally agree on the cleaning of honeycomb grills...have them on my GLI, but I like the look especially on the RS3. I damn near cancelled my order for the 2017 S3
I still prefer the standard look for an S3, as you know it is an S3 rather than the black optics and the US package wheels are not to my taste. That is why it is nice to have options to suit our preferences

I was considering changing to a TTS as my next car from my 8V 2.0tdi 150, but after running up the spec I want on the Configurator for an S3 black edition I think my decision has been made

Spec is as follows:
3dr Stronic
Black edition S3
19s, Mag-ride
Sports seats
Red callipers
Tech pack advanced
Advanced key

Not too many options as I'm keeping it realistic, should hopefully be in a position to order it in the new year!

Totally realistic mate. Very similar to my deal and I got a decent amount under the £500 mark, including optional extras and GAP & Alloy/Puncture packages.
I do exactly what jassy refers to too, they never charge us for excess mileage.
Wouldn't go past Stirling Audi, always come up with the deals for me and Mrs Bairn.

Right gone over and over all types of configurations Black Editions and normal editions.....on a S3 saloon may i add...and have come to the conclusion that these black editions are a rip off....on a S3 Saloon same spec roughly they are £1200 bangers more than a similar specced chrome grill car....why the stand alone Black Optics Package was'nt made as option is clear to see, they aint great value for money chaps....and they also limit you specific option....to a extent the same can be said with the TTS Black Edition...but you can delete a few interior options to bring the price down plus it has far better wheel options

I agree. The wheels on the black edition look horrible so it costs to change them for a start. You are basically paying a load just for the black styling bits on the outside - cheaper just to keep them silver then spec all the other bits.

Have you VTd a 5k mile PCP deal and gone over the mileage yet?

My current car is on 12k miles pa. Currently looking at changing cars though. Giving that I'm over 2½ years into my 4 year deal and with 27k on the clock they put me around £2000 in negative equity. If I'd taken a 5k mile deal would that make me better or worse off than at present?
