Hey there, not been on for a while but thought i'd pop in a wee update thread.

After owning my S3 saloon for almost 2 years i've decided to upgrade (???) to a 3dr S3.

I've had an on-going issue over the last 6 months with the pre-sense system and Audi UK fail to see it as an issue so i've decided to trade it in for a new one.

Going from an S3 saloon in brilliant red to an S3 3dr in vegas yellow.

In order to get the deal right i've had to take the B&O, lumbar support and extended leather (mono.pur) off my spec but sure i can cope.

Would've liked to go black edition but really dislike the wheels and sadly you can't swap them out without going 19's and mag ride (unlike the saloon)

Final spec:

S3 3dr S-Tronic
Vegas Yellow
Alcantara seats
Folding mirrors
HHA
Tech pack advanced
Park system plus

Been advised of build week 48 so should get it before new year :)

I've just looked on the Audi website. Didn't realise they were doing a Black edition. But for the premium, why have they stuck those horrible "Wing" design wheels on it? Truly horrible wheels.

And I notice the paint options are rubbish now. No Sapang Blue. Best colour for the S3.

Yeah, really don't like them.

Saloon gives you the option to swap them out for free but it gets different wheels as part of the black pack anyway.

Nice spec. I'd take out the HHA. It's not an essential with S-tronic.

Brave man going Vegas. Love the colour and will suit the hatch well.

I think HHA is a must, have it in the saloon and when i drive the wife Leon DSG i miss it.

Always wanted a yellow Audi, going for brightest drive in the street as wifes car is Alor Blue.

Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't you looking at the F Type as a potential future car?

Just wondered what changed your mind if anything?

I was indeed, well remembered. Would still love an F-Type but with the oil going all to **** in Aberdeen i'm having to rein it in a bit :)

Considered an XE but Jag salesman didn't seem too interested in selling cars so gave that a swerve.

Everyone is different. Never had it in any auto car I've driven. Had in 2 manuals and wife has it in her Mini which I think is essential.

I think the problem with the S3 (bear with me on this) is that i've been spoilt with power.

When you look at cars like the F-Type and see slower 0-62 times it seems almost a shame to buy a base model. Which obviously is an odd way of thinking but when you get used to something its hard to get used to losing it.

A bit like i am with my hair and athletic figure as old age takes over :(

Nice spec on the new car!

Just of curiosity:
Disabling pre sense on the old car wasn't an option?

Audi offered that as an option but it resets every time you turn off the ignition.

Think it would have always been in the back of my mind. It's a shame as ACC is great, and the pre-sense has saved me once when it worked properly.

I assume you've had a spin in the hatch, how do you think the ride compares to the saloon?

I've not tried the FL hatch but had a 24hr test drive in the PFL Aberdeen Audi had and liked it. Always had the mag ride turned on in the saloon so expecting the hb to be a little softer. Just put £700 worth of P-Zeros on so might head to the track to say farewell :)

Sounds like a well spec'd car. I'm also interested to see the colour in the flesh, looks naughty from pictures though. I'm also from Aberdeen :)

Be interested to hear about going from mag ride to non mag ride.
I felt the Mag ride was a must have in the S3.

You should head to the shop, Aberdeen have a 3 door s-line, saloon s-line and a 5 door S3 in Vegas just now, they look epic. Just sad about the black edition but i'll get over it :)

Yeah, might see if they have a FL demo to try. Would've liked another saloon but no deposit contribution and higher price meant it wasn't an option.

If you feel it is an issue there are plenty of suspension related upgrades available anyway... :)

There's no danger i'd ever be in a position to drive the car hard enough to make the most of it anyway.

I probably just assume it makes a difference as i've not had a car with it on before and it feels different. That could just be the way Audis are set up compared to my previous cars.

Might seem really old man like but i'm excited by the 7 speed s-tronic, always thought the PFL needed another gear. 3000 revs sitting at 75 on the dual carriageway is not right.

You have to report back after having driven it for while, how you perceive the 7 speed gearbox compared to the old...

Did you trade the saloon in or was it a end of lease

Yes, Audi Sound standard on S3. Was going B&O but needed to cut a few things.

Traded saloon due to ongoing isuue.

Thats me picked up Aberdeen Audis demo FL S3 for a 24 hr test drive. Only driven it home and popped round to Homebase but noticing an improvement already over my PFL. Seems quicker off the mark in D mode, always felt like there was a bit of a delay with mine unless you put in sport mode.

Forgot just how cold leather seats are, glad i've gone Alcantara again.

Also decided that i really like Nano grey. Not enough to change from yellow but it is a nice colour :)

Out for a drive into the countryside when the wife gets home so will report back as promised.

Si. :)

Also glad i put B&O back on my spec. *** just not doing it for me. Had it at about 85% listening to A Day to Remember and it was nowhere near as crisp as 25 on my current car.

Had a nice wee run up to Ballater and back and i can defo feel the differences between the FL and PFL. 1st off, with no mag ride it definitely feels a bit bouncier but not as harsh as mag when you hit a cats eye. Car is noticeably quicker too, wife commented on it so must be obvious. 7 speed s-tronic is super smooth and much happier at dual carriageway speed at about 2200 revs rather than almost 3000 in the PFL. The small touches are nice too, i like that they've changed the lighting on the buttons to white and seeing Audi beam in the darkness makes me smile.
Only thing i didn't really like was the leather, feels really slidey. Not to worry though as i've got Alcantara on my order.

Si :)
