Hazards tweak (LED)

Hi,

I saw an Audi at the side of the road with LED hazards, the boot and rear pillar clusters flashed independently of each of other which I think looks great. I'm wondering if this is a coding possibility?

I haven't been able to find a video for an Audi, but here is one for VW.

It would be best if this only happened on hazards and not on regular turn signals!

Any thoughts?

There are two methods to completing this:
  1. Both the Hazard Lights and Turn Signals flash "out of sequence".
  2. Hazard Lights flash "out of sequence" but Turn Signals flash as per normal.
The Adaptations for 1 are pretty simple and can be found within the 8V VCDS thread. The search button be your friend :)
The Adaptations for 2 are very very very very complicated and not suggested for a novice VCDS user as they involve remapping the "dynamic" lighting configurations of the car.

I did this to mine, I think it looks awesome. Can't remember the exact things I changed, but I do remember it contained the German word 'dunkelphase'

I like it a lot!

The search function seems to be having problems, I'm getting an error, so can't find much in the 60 odd pages of the VCDS thread I'm afraid!

Has anyone that's done this had any bother from the Police with this set up on turn indicators? I really would like to avoid this and go hazards only... it can only be more coding? Right?...

The VCDS thread is worth making some time for, some really good information in there. Check out the document linked in my signature also :)

Rear LED Turn Signal Phase (Method 1)
  • 09 - Central Electronics
  • Adaptations
  • (4) Leucite16BLK SLB35BLK SL KC9-Lichtfunktion A 16 = Blinken links Dunkelphase
  • (4) Leuchte17TFL R BLK SRB3TFL R BLK SR KC3-Lichtfunktion A 17 = Blinken Rechts Dunkelphase

I'm sure I heard it is illegal over here as they are not in phase? I have semi dynamic indicators on mine and I haven't been pulled for them yet so you might be fine..

Thanks, how would I go about exploring the phase 2 option?

To be honest I am a bit hesitant in documenting and releasing the 2nd method as you would need to perform 30 adaptation channel changes within control module 09. Will add this to my testing schedule again.

I guess as long as a back up is taken, what's the harm?
Thanks for doing the testing, I'd do it myself if I had a cable to hand.

Really interesting to see how this develops.

Yer, as long as an adaptation map is created first your original settings would be backed up. In fact I would suggest to anyone reading this... create adaptation maps of all your control modules and file them away :)

The main issue is that I "discovered" the mod before many of the channels were translated from German to English by ross-Tech, so my notes are in German. They are also in Vag Can Professional format as that was the application I tested with, and pre VCDS v16 so I would need to map them to VCDS and the new naming conventions. Will take a little while.

I musts admit it looks good if they flash both sides in sequence although not sure that the timing and light output is anywhere near the same steady slow flash. I think the MOT only requires 60 to 120 per min?? so probably conforms.

What concerns me is what would happen if you were on the hard shoulder and somebody ran into the back of you, I suspect they could try light confusion as a defense for careless or dangerous driving?

Would anybody intend to inform their insurance and do you think that they would
a) aqccept it as a valid mod and
b) if not informed would they still pay for repairs

I try hard not to be too risk adverse but this for me, as good as it looks, is a step too far but accept each to their own on this one

Already been discussed within the VCDS thread... completing this mod WILL render your vehicle un-road worthy.

In that case, why would anybody want to do this?

Thanks for highlighting that this is the situation and that it is not worth doing.

I had this mod activated for about a year on my Saloon for demo purposes, London based so "da police" must have seen me, and had zero issues. MOT time might be different tho.

People do all kinds of things to their cars which are not technically legal, just the way it goes. DRL Dimming Disable or Pulse whilst indicating is another one that is technically not legal but very very popular.

I'd be happy to have this enabled, like I say, not on the regular turn signals however.

Did you get chance to test?

Unfortunately it's going to be a little while before I get the time to test this, end of next week will be the earliest at the moment.

No problem. MOT due in Nov, so will only look to apply after then I thinks!

Hi all, MOT boxed off, I'd like to be able to get this sorted if anyone had been able to progress?

Hi Alix, I know you've been away for a bit, any news on this? I'd love to get it sorted.
Cheers,
Nick

Have not had a chance to full test again and document in english, and to be honest I am prolly going to run out of time as my car is being traded in on Thursday and I am in the process of returning it to stock. Will post up all the coding I have for the mod tho and you guys can work it out / test.

Hi mate, thought I'd just bump this up, still interested in the coding skills for lights without affecting regular indicators?

Still on the "To Do" list, but not very high up. I will publish what I have soon but it will be "untested" as I no longer have a PFL car available to test with.

Hi DJAlix i do this method and works well. The only problem is that i have a fault code in autoscan in central 09 its say module coded error. Could i solve this? It maybe because i am in Argetina and have another light setup?

Regards
Martin

Because you control module is not coded as per factory or as expected.
