I've had my FL S3 just over a week now and find that if I am cruising at 50-60 mph and I put my foot to the floor, the car lurches quite heavily before it takes off. I appreciate that the car has to shift down first to get decent acceleration, but this lurching doesn't seem to happen on other cars.

Are other owners experiencing this and have people found ways around it (not flooring it isn't an option!)?

the below video seems to discuss it, but no solution.

Wouldn't say mine lurches but there is a split second delay (turbo lag) when burying yer foot at certain speeds.............................some find it annoying, can't say it bothers me at all.

Yeah I asked the same thing from the same video. It's actually in the manual so it's not a design flaw it's their on purpose

As the you tube guy finds out if you go into comfort/sport mode there is no lag. The lag on my occurs when you are in dynamic mode.

Your option is drive in confort/sport mode or adapt your driving and accelerate gradually rather than foot to the floor

Shift into manual and drop a gear or 2,it's instant then....

Can't say I bother with manuel or paddles.................tend to use the tiptronic as a gear stick flicking in and out of 'S' ............don't get any lag that way either :)

or just drive a manual...

The problem (turbolag) with any autobox on a turbo powered car is you are never going to get instant acceleration and only way to minimise is to drop it down a gear or two a fraction of a second before you floor it.

After driving a VW GTI for 4 years with a DSG (s-tronic) transmission I would never go back to a manual. .

Naw...... there is certain satisfaction in dropping the clutch and ramming the gearstick into 5th or 3rd that never leaves me...what else will I use my left hand for :)

Thinking about it more, I'm now wondering if the "lurching" sensation is the car shifting down say from 6th to 3rd, but not quite matching the revs so there is a moment of heavy engine breaking.

I drive an 8P RS3 at the moment and it does exactly the same. It's not turbo lag, its lag from the car going from 7th to 3rd or 4th. I hate it, I was hoping the new S3 would fix this issue, obviously not:rage:

6th to 3rd...my car aint ever jumped 3 gears...6th to 5th...yeah....av never got it drive though to be honest..apart from pulling away at roundabouts and junctions....as soon as its into 3rd,left turn Clyde....straight manual...

I noted something a few weeks back! I put my foot down slowly but surely (rather than just flooring it quickly) on the accelerator and it felt like it had come to the bottom/floor. There was a bit of resistance and then it let me go further by about a cm or so...anyone noticed it? I thought is it a extra power burst or something...I know on the VXR Corsa I had a few years back it had a similar thing that gave you an extra boost of power for a few seconds (sort of a kick down).

Dave l salute you and all Emmanuelle owners...lol keeping one hand on the gear stick and just one hand on the steering wheel....as time goes on the steering is becoming ever so tiresome....you cant drive the S3 with your hands at the 2-45 position....the steering is far from progressive,l am having to push pull constantly on the B road part of my journey to work.....its superseding the bounce....lol

You could always hold the wife's hand! ;)

Seriously though, I know where you are coming from. I've pondered about going s-tronic, but keep coming back to thinking/knowing I'd miss the interaction of the manual.

Yeah, think it's been discussed on here before.........someone called it kickdown or some such malarkey.

Ahh right I'll do a search ;) the wife wasn't happy as once I knew it was there I kept testing it out...it's like warp speed :D

I don't know, had the R8 for the day and the RS3 for a few hours and I just couldn't get into it.

Yeah, it does get a shift on when you take it the carpet!! lol

It was the number one selling point for me on the test drive but I guess I can't make you love the s-tronic if it really ain't for you ;)

Especially fun when you think your 300bhp pocket rocket has plenty of time moving lanes despite that car coming in your mirrors....

Used to be a 'how to drive with DSG' post a while back with excellent info on using DSG and FBW

One important area was to roll into the throttle rather than stamping like you would on conventional autos

The S3 has great early torque and sufficient hp that means you rarely need to stamp it

Have now been driving DSG equipped vehicles for around 8 years and you learn the positives and negatives and general behaviour

As others have said, if you really want to hit it for overtaking, pull it back into Sport mode or use the paddles for a quick down change (in any mode)

On the highway/freeway I drive in Sport auto mode and with cruise, a touch on the throttle drops it 5th and provides plenty of response for overtaking etc

In Sport auto with CC engaged, the car will stay in top gear until you touch the throttle (6th or7th depending on model) which makes the car perfect for the open road.

Coming out of work last week and my mate was behind me, once the two cars moved out from in front I booted it...look how little time it took me to match/pass the speed of the motorway traffic!

My mate sent me a text a few mins later saying "F*** me your car shifts, you were gone" :D
