B9 S4 Info Thread

Updated Brochure with the S4 now available to download from the website here

https://www.audi.co.uk/content/dam/audi/production/PDF/PriceAndSpecGuides/a4.pdf
Starting price in the Uk for a S4 saloon is £44,000.00
& the S4 Avant is £45,400.00

These prices are without any options added

S4 only colours -
Navarro blue
Misano red

Daytona grey shared with S4 & S-line models

Super sports seats are now standard with quilted stitching on backrest and seat base

A lot of options seem to have to had a hike in prices from the B8.5 S4 unfortunately

Although I notice that all options are either the same or cheaper than the other model levels...

I've noticed the discount on B9s seems better but the base prices have gone up. Cynical? Me? :)

Hopefully by next year the discounts will be good and strong!
Supersports, heated seats and nav are now standard which were basically all the extra's I specced on the current car so doesn't look like bad value against a B8.5 really (comparing list prices). B&O sound looks expensive compared to the B8.5 though I have it as part of the black edition pack. Wonder when the Black Editions will be rolled out?

Generally when they up the spec they also up the price. I did notice a black pack is one of the options. It soon adds up when you add the options to equal a B8.5 black edition, black pack, B&O stereo, flat bottomed steering wheel, privacy glass etc.

Another thing to consider is that as of April 2017 the VED road tax for a car in this price range will pay £450 a year for first 5 years.

Yeah, the black edition spec was good value compared to speccing the black edition options onto the 'base model'. Personally I'm not really up or down about the black pack itself, but the fbsw and tinted rear windows are a must. The rest I could live without. Standard 18's look pretty rubbish mind you.

What?????

So did anyone else notice that the S4 avant gets a de-tuned 340PS engine...?

Yes let's hope so. However the B9 S4 price has only risen by about 10% whereas the exchange rate changed by about 15% following the Brexit vote so Audi might not be too inclined to discount much :(

My configurator still has them both as 254PS?

It's in the brochure - pages 61 and 124. The odds are that the configurator is wrong (and I assume that it does not show 254PS?)

Haha, yeah I meant 354! I'll have to take a look, don't know why it would be different though. 0-60 is 0.2s slower but imagine that's down to weight?

Black styling pack in brochure but can't find it on Configurator. Should have offered yellow, orange, etc like they have in Germany.

I suppose it doesn't pay too much to rely on figures which are manipulated by marketing departments, but the weight difference saloon to avant is 45kg, which is the same as it was for the B8.5. However the 0-62 difference for the B8.5 was only 0.1s. This adds credence to the possibility that the B9 S4 avant peak power could be lower than the saloon.

However I did find another error. In the text on page 61 it shows the peak torque as 460Nm which differs from the 500Nm shown elsewhere.

I just find it a bit strange that they'd pull back the output for the Avant, why bother?

Just have to wait for some tuning options I guess...

It has got to be an error in the UK brochure - there's no mention of it in the German version.

It's definitely on the German online configurator . And does not look like a mistake on the brochure - it's got a full page.

Sure enough, seems pretty clear in the brochure that the Avant is detuned slightly. Must be to sneak it into a lower emissions bracket than it would have been with the Saloons power output?

So finally, it's here.

My dealer has ordered 4. 2 Saloons and Avants. I'm not seeing black packs or options on the configurator. Is this a parts issue? One thing though, pretty damn easy to hit that £51-2k Mark. Just shows what value the B8.5 Black Edition was.

Question. Sports Diff vs Adaptive suspension. If you had to choose one, which would it be? I've read threads that the diff is like a 'must' have. Granted, I drive 'very' spiritedly at times but I don't hit the track or take it to edge of grip every day. I'd probably look at Eibach springs if I got the diff but what would you guys choose?

In terms of benefit the sports diff over the adaptive suspension. On the B8.5 the suspension in dynamic is firmer than the non-adaptive suspension but not so much that it 'transforms' the handling. Whereas the effect the sports diff has on reducing understeer is remarkable. The other advantage of the adaptive suspension is to be able to make it softer if you want to. But if you're not too bothered about that the getting the sports diff and then later uprating the springs or even getting coilovers would be a great idea. I too don't take my car to the edge of grip every day, but when I do I'm very glad I have the sports diff. It's just a shame that Audi have priced the sports diff at £1200 for the B9. Sports diff on B8/B8.5 cars is rare. It'll be rare on B9 cars until the price is reduced.

They are rare but it's just a cost thing. Not cheap.

My B8.5 ain't too bad to be fair in comfort. I use that setting for suspension in individual. Only switch to dynamic when pushing it. Its firm but you want that.

Anyway, couldn't afford both and the dynamic steering is just a no no. Haha. RS4 one day haha. I think the carbon atlas trim adds so much to the interior. Hopefully get the figures in hoping for back from my dealer. You had any good discounts?

I'd be really interested to hear what discounts people are being offered straight off the bat, please share with us if you can!

Discount from broker looks like 10% on a £52K car, although I haven't spoken to my preferred dealer yet to compare.

We're currently running an SQ5 (now 40 months old) and managed around 9% off when that was launched so would be disappointed if it wasn't similar on an S4 Avant - not sure whether to wait till the Paris Motor show when the new Q5 may be launched or bite the bullet on the S4

I put in a Carwow enquiry today with a final cost of about £55k so I'll see what people come back with.

I did the same but was at £52K - will wait to see what comes back

From my dealer I'm looking at just short of 15% but that's a special rate due to my profession. So...discounts of 10% are going to be readily available if haggled I imagine. Good news! Still to wait for my quotes from car wow but I'm very happy with the offer I just got.

Wow, that's a pretty impressive discount! Do you mind letting us know your profession to see if it's something we might be able to ask for as well? If not then that's understandable, my wife doesn't tend to publicise what she does either. Haha.

Just got my first offer from Car Wow with a 9.1% discount so £48,019 against a configured price of £52,845. what was interesting was that the credit price was the same.

Haha, she's similar...

That lease seems pretty expensive, I think that I'll be sticking with my usual PCP route initially and see what they come back with for me.

I do love the man math! Haha.

Not such a bad discount that. I've also looked at the appealing path of the used RS4. Trust me. It's dangerous. The APR is insane. The dealerships make their cash back on used cars. I'm glad I never pulled the trigger on it as id only use it for weekends and on leave.

Are those lease rates good?
£26,076 over 48 months just to rent the car sounds like an expensive way to run a £44K car to me, especially if you can get 10-15% discount so you're actually renting a £38K car.

1st post on this site as it seems to be the only place people are discussing the b9 s4 in any detail, so hello.

Thanks to the guy who linked the pdf brochure, very handy as I was only going by the configurator which isn't the most accurate.(then again seeing them describe the engine as being supercharged doesn't give me much faith in he brochure either.)

I've previously owned a b8 S4 so am quite happy to order without a test drive. All the respected car reviewers seem to have the same opinion of it, its no track car but a very pokey salon with very good tech and cabin quality. Good enough for me again. It seems like brokers are the only way to go now if you don't want your pants pulled down.

Visited my local Audi dealer to see what they could offer only to be given the usual rubbish about no discounts to be had as it's an "s" model blah blah. It's was woeful to see two of them leaning over a table pressure selling to an elderly man looking for a car. Anyway they offered 3% discount on their "special" weekend. Err how about I just pick up the phone and get 9/10% off a broker straight away thanks. How I hate car showrooms.

Orders going in now are looking like they will beat this VED price hike too which helps. Although any later than Jan and the depreciation would offset any savings I guess.
