Hi all,
After hours of fiddling, googling, head-scratching I really need your help.

I have an AUM A3 1.8T 8L
Previous owner sold it to me as they had no use for it and hadn't driven it since the cam belt snapped.
He had the belt replaced and left it sat for 2 years.
When I first got it, I assumed the engine would be complete toast and was prepared to do the engine swap with my tatty AGU. To my shock, it started! Albeit lumpy and misfiring. I put it all down to needing a good service, new sparks, check loom, fix pcv pipes that are probably split.

Did all that and it sounds far better but still has a misfire on cylinder 1. Have done the following;
Pressure tested - all is normal
Changed coil pack
Changed spark plugs
Changed injectors
Pcv all replaced with a catch can simple setup
Deleted the SAI, N249 ETC
Replaced TIP with silicone jobby
Removing 2,3,4 coil pack wires gives judder as expected, 1 does not. BUT can hear spark when pulling the coil

Wiring all looks fine and must be working as the spark plug is going off.

I don't plan to go for huge BHP so keeping the AUM is fine, but if it's more work than the engine swap then I might as well give up on it.

Switching to the AGU means I need to bring the ECU, loom, throttle pedal too right (drive by wire)?

All help is appreciated

Ok so looking about, it seems I can do the engine swap and keep the ECU and loom provided I bring over the throttle body and cam cover. I'll have fault codes for the SAI but expect that anyway.

Does this sound right? Am I missing something?

I'm south east England if anyone know a pro that can do this, I don't have much faith in my local garage and dont plan on needing to do anything like this again so seems mad getting all the kit to do it.

Also need to keep the intake manifold, injectors, knock sensors... Must be more I'm forgetting

Nope, just trying to help...
AGU uses a different size injector, and your ECU should be wideband which uses different knock sensors than the ones on your AGU.

Ahh I see what you were saying now. Cheers! Didn't know about the sensors. Knew about injectors and manifold. I'll take the k03s from the AUM to go on the AGU.

Treat the AGU engine as a bare engine... remove the AUM, swap ancillaries and sensors over from the AUM... you will also have to swap the cam chain tensioner as AUM is VVT, AGU is not... double check the cam position sensor wheel... AGU's should come with the double window type which will work with VVT but check that it looks the same as the AUM one... if not, use the AUM one...

IIRC AGU's don't have SAI so that will need to be removed/deleted

You can use the smallport AUM inlet manifold as is but there will be a step... you can either use just a large port inlet mani gasket and bolt straight up or (preferably) a phenolic transition gasket....

Brief update. Looking to get an engine hoist on payday and pull the Agu out with my step dad's brother.. Going to strip what's worth trying to sell from the tatty girl and then offer the shell to anyone that wants it.

I have a spare sump with sensor so that will go on it.. I'll get some photos as I go through it and will be taking my time and getting good parts by default.

What's worth doing while I have the engine out? Better engine mounts?

I also have a bosch 044 fuel pump lined up for it.. Just need the connectors etc but not sure which I need... Is there a pack from badger5?

All tips and advice welcomed :)
