Morning All, is anyone having trouble with the automatic boot opening on the Avant?

I lent the car to my Dad a few weeks back, he said when he returned to the car the boot was open. I told him he probably had squeezed the boot opening button on the fob for a few seconds.

Issue happened to me yesterday and its a little disconcerting walking back to a car with its boot wide open!

Normally I have to hold the fob button for a good few seconds to open the boot automatically. Can't imagine this being done easily from putting the fob in your pocket...

Anyone else suffering from this issue?

I've done it on my Saloon many times. Sometimes just before starting and I notice the boot open in the mirror and sometimes when leaving the car and putting my keys in my pocket after locking. Always due to inadvertently pressing the boot opening button.

I have had this happen a few times, your not the only one

It has happened to me twice and my partner once. It's pretty poor when my old Skoda never did this once in 4 years, I've had the A4 for 5 weeks now

That's worrying - and useful to know while I'm weighing up whether to go for the Avant.

It is indeed the button, happens often when I'm wearing a pair of slightly tight jeans

I've tested this from about 40 meters away, boot opens. We need to be able to disable this, I often have many £££'s worth of kit in the back for work.

Yes a very good feature for me as it works from a good distance, I don't know how you would go about disabling it though and, as previously stated, never had it open by mistake...

Never had this happen on my saloon. I know it sounds daft but have you tried rearranging the keys on your bunch- button pointing away from other keys etc so when you shove them in your pocket it doesn't press by accident?

I gave my little one my keys to play with whist in the kitchen at the back of my house which is at least good 20 meter's from the car. I thought there was no fear of the boot opening from that distance though the walls etc and my old BMW certainly wouldn't have worked.

My wife came home and proceeded to tell me all the windows were down and the boot was open.

He no longer plays with my keys!

I was surprised and impressed that the keyfob had the wireless power to get though 1 external, and 1 load bearing wall when i can barely get any internet wireless signal from the living room whist in the kitchen so yeah i was pretty surprised! lol

I wouldn't even give my keys to my partner let alone a child ;-)

Pretty sure you can turn it off in the mmi settings? It does take a good long press on mine to open it though.

Happened to me yesterday. Keys in my pocket in the house, car about 7-8m away and noticed boot was wide open. Don't recall pressing the button but think I must have done.

You can't turn off in MMI unfortunately, you can turn off the boot handle opening in Central Locking not Key Fob.

It's happened again :-(

Is this only happening to avants with the automatic tailgate opening? Why I ask is that I am wondering if the sensor underneath the car is either too sensitive and picking up movement...

Channelling my inner Sherlock, do you all have cats or something?

Yup me too - my boy had the keys the other day (2.5 yrs old), I thought nothing of it until a neighbour called at the door to tell me the boot was wide open! About 30m away and through 3 solid walls in a Victorian house.......

That wasn't the end of it, couldn't find the key afterwards, but after Sherlock-Ing it in my 3 year olds mind palace, they were found...... In the washing machine (pre wash thank god)......

No, it's happened to me with my saloon.

I'm collecting my new saloon next Thursday so am rather interested in this.
Are these newish cars or ones a little older?

Ok is it just A4's that have an automatic boot opening because this has never happened with my saloon without it...

Happened to me today. What is really annoying is that it cant then be shut from the key fob either. On reading the manual, it can only be done if you forked out for the convienience key. The system is all there, just not they key. Work colleagues BMW and VW will all close theres with an extended press.

I believe you change the length of time you need to hold the button down with a VCDS. Default time is 800ms - you can increase this to up to 2000ms.

Are you sure the boot lid is `powered`, because if it is not then I don't see how it could be lowered other than manually.

The avant is powered - the Saloon not

Has happened numerous times in my pocket with my B8 saloon.
I was at an indoor play area with my daughters and I had the keys in my pocket and was climbing on all the equipment. I went out to car and all windows were fully open as was the boot.
After that I bought this:

Don't use it all the time but strategically and I've never had the problem again

Well I thought I would never have this problem untill yesterday, reversing into my narrow width garage using wing mirrors, key in pocket and tailgate opened stopped just in time, dread to think of the cost of that,no more key in pocket!.

My 4 day old one did it yesterday. Went out in the morning and the boot was open.

That looks good. Can't seem to find anything suitable for the B9 yet though - hopefully something will be available soon!

I just had my neighbour tell me my boot was wide open when he arrived home. He closed it and let me know. I'm getting on to the dealer tomorrow as this is the third time in 11 days.

Emailed osirusa and was told something should be out later in the year
